Fishing rods...huh?

Be sure to run your parts down with alcohol wipes and use rubber gloves or the paint will show any flaws. Incase you didn't know

Now you need some hedgehog air bearings!

I was wondering about that. The bearing in the spool is upgraded from the stock, but the brake side isn't. So what do you do than? Try to match it to the spool new one in the spool or just get an air bearing for that brake side or replace both, even the new avail bearing?

I'd just go with the stock one and take the races off and clean it good. I swear my metanium casted better with stock bearings ov er the air ones.

I just found a topic yesterday that did a comprehensive comparison between stock and sic bearings, the gain was only about an average of 3 yards, not worth it to me

Do you think the new zillion sv tw need to have the bearings flushed

Ok cool guys, that saves me some $ and time lol.....I found with my JDM shimsno reels they are ready to vs USDM that are packed with grease and need a cleaning.

So jdm reels are good to go vs the usdm packing theirs with grease...huh, intresting, wonder why usdm do that. Nice looking paint job to btw

Looking good mcs! What paint are you using? I wouldn't touch the zillion bearings until they need it honestly. It will cast like a beast regardless. I assume they pack grease instead of oil because people in America tend to not care as much and if you ask alot of people around you if they ever take their reels apart and clean everything you will get a no lol

^^^ yup that's why I heard they did it lol....thanks guys. I went to michaels and got testors laquer for models. It supposed to no need for primer, and clear is in it. So all I gotta do is bake. The frame is a PITA with all the nooks and top bottom side. Lol. I'll see how this holds up but doing it, I wouldn't mind it having to do it again.

I have never completely disassemble my reels (scared I would never get it back to gather)but I do religiously clean and grease and oil bearings, worm shafts and such parts

I was the same til this one. A fishing buddy gave it to me all rashed up but the guts were good shape. I used it but it didnt cast as well as my other shimanos had. So I got the spool then cleaned it and another buddy was like take it down and paint....I was like guess I don't have much to lose lol

Reels really aren't that hard to disassemble and get back together right. Especially a caster and especially an Abu 6500. I have no doubt in my mind nick that you can do it..seriously. you can even take pictures on your phone as you take stuff off to help you remember how it goes back together. I ways say if you can change oil you can do a reel lol. Try it out. If you can't figure out how it goes back together I can help ya out! Just be careful if you start to super tune things and get a little carried away with the dremel. I learned the hard way but then quickly figured it out. I super tuned a curado g that literally free spooled for 2:08 yet there was no noticeable improvement in distance unless I tied a half ounce sinker on...then I could spool my 10lb test lol
