Fishing rods...huh?

Post some pictures of her when it's done

Will do, this projects gonna take a little time. I am skimming a little $ of my OT each pay to fund it, up next some hedge hog parts. Then I gotta figure the handle and the star out. Star will be Avail, handle I have a few options.

Cool, love to see it. I am just trying to keep it simple with this, black metalic or pearl.

Here it's on my zbone le6. I only used this setup to throw an ibobber so far

Nevermind the water spots btw lol

Like the paint, looks good. Did you add any clear? What brand? I am going rattle can, I used to do model cars as a kid. I was ok at painting with testors spray. I also plan on a couple coats of clear....But I also seen that Rustoleum hammered finish and texture. That is kinda intriguing what do you guys think? Would you primer or just fine sand and clean really well.

That hammered finish would look like one of MB'S reels I have seen he has. Pretty cool.
I would use clear coat for added scuff protection, otherwise boat rash would be taking paint off instead of clear

Thanks guys! Glad ya like it :D.
An I bobber is a castable sonar that Bluetooth to your phone. Shore fishing it is a must have if ya ask me

I used tamiya white primer after I sanded everything and taped off the holes and what not. Then I used duplicolor paints in rattle can and a clear gloss coat and wetsanded it with 3000 grit.

With how tight the things on a reel fit I'm not sure how the textured feel would effect fit and finish. You could get this stuff called crackle medium from folk art and spray over your base coat and as it's drying spray your top coat and apply heat and you have a cracked sweet look (like megabass cracked purple IS reel and the bottom of pop maxes like black orochi and white python) it easier with an airbrush. Believe me I tried it lol

Yeah that is why I thought I needed the clear too.....Yeah I might do the hammer finish on the frame and black metallic on the side plates now that you got me thinking...

Haha...oops, I posted before I got a chance to read you post, that is the exact reel I was thinking of for that crackel finish

Cool Thanks guys I will check that out too. Since it's my first one maybe just getting a nice coat with some clear will be fine by me.

Yea....until the itch returns...lol

Not sure how much paint experience you have but I would bake those parts in an oven if you can at about 200 for 30 min or so.
Spray can paint can be just as tough as auto paint, it just takes longer for it to fully cure, sometimes a month but people are impatient so they think it is not as tough. Most cases it is close to a week or so at ambient temp

He is right. Especially with laquer or enamel. Generally if you can still smell it is still trying to cure is what I have always been told. On the other hand I think the duplicolor paints are mostly acrylic and dry rather fast. I use a heat gun on my acrylic paint and it helps to give them a super smooth finish. My winter hobby is master grade gundam kits. Yes I go all out on those as well lol

Yeah I was thinking about the oven too. Especially since I am down here and it is humid I know the curing might never actually take place lol. Would you bake after each coat or just at the end? So where are these duplicolor? You used these on your blue reel? I was looking at enamel want to check this out as well. Thanks again. That model is SICK, my family has passes to disney they have some of these models at Japan in EPCOT. Nice work on it.

Thanks. Yep build em piece by piece and paint and detail whatever you want really. Go to autozone or menards and you will find duplicolor cans. They are made to "match" factory colors of vehicles
