Fishing rods...huh?

Just out of curiosity, have yall ever handled the 13 fishing envy black
The 7'6" mh has a pretty good Lure wieght range and XF tip

I had an envy black and really like it for jigs. I eventually sold it to a guy that fishes local club because I like the xx more for telling me what was all down there. The envy does look way better with its half eva half cork split grip though. If you get one be sure to check it over real good before you use it. The qc department of 13 is not very consistent at catching things. Had one and the first cast I made I noticed that terrible grinding feeling of chafed line.. couldn't figure what was wrong until I looked real close and the top half of my tip insert was missing..

I was reading in another forum that 3/4 oz is about max for the emtf, does that seem right to you. I know the rod has a 1 oz rating but 5/8- 3/4 seems a bit light for me

Yeah I've only handled 13's omen but I've heard the same thing about qc. But everyone says their 99 dollar rods are good bang for the buck if u get a clean one.

Paints done. Gonna reassemble tomorrow. I need to order some dress up parts next pay and get a handle for my bday in april.

It can handle 1oz. But it would feel overpowered by your bait if that makes sense? What are the weights you are planning on throwing? I was thinking you are going from 1/4-1/2 for some reason??

I use a 5/16 wieght, 4 ought hook, and usually a 6" ring worm, total wieght is at about 3/4 oz..roghly...+ OR - a 1/4oz.
I will probably also get into wieghtless worms as well if I can get them out far enough with it

Btw, is the rod wieght specs for the TOTAL wieght or just the metal wieght you are using

Just looked and my JM elite mh xf rod I have used for the last 7 years has the same wieght rating as the xx...3/8-1oz

I have also ready the xx is pretty sensitive at detecting bites but the real benefit of it is being able to tell what the bottom is. This may just be me and maybe I am missing something but to me, what the bottom is made out of is not that important to me, just detecting the bite is what is most important to me, which is why I say the JM elite is a pretty good rod, because I can tell the slightest bite with it. Just having a little doubts about spending 300 on a rod, that is a nice chunk of change and think I could almost get a hole other setup for what I could save on a rod...idk

I get what you are trying to say I think. To me when a rod can tell you everything you are going over with ease will make it even more vibrant when a fish bites. Maybe the xx isn't for you..the only person that knows for sure is you. I wish you lived closer I would let you throw of my rods around and see what fits you best. Try to get your hands on whatever you can and make your decision based on that. I think you can demo an xx from tw. Or order one and if it's not what you were looking for you can always send it back. The thing with reading reviews is everyone's opinion is different. Look at mine and lt halls views on this thread about megabass and loomis for instance..and we both have used both! Lol
If you do go with a cheaper option I would recommend the new cronos from daiwa or even cheaper yet the new fenwick elite tech bass. I held one in scheels and actually really liked it

Is the cronos really that good, better than the tatula? I have also read good things about the avids as well, if I do go cheaper, it would probably be in the 150-200 range
That Fenwick has a VERY different looking real seat

I cant vouche for the cronos. I just have a hunch it's gunna be better than the zodias shimano offers and that alone is enough for me to want one lol. Yes the fenwick is a tad different seat. Almost like an air beam steez handle kinda. None the less it felt great in hand

It's funny, the reel was the easiest part, the rod choice is killin' me
I think with the xx, you pretty much know it is the best in that price range, but when you get to the 150-200, there are A LOT of rods that are basically the same so choosing one is very hard to do

That's the only problem. Usually the rods I am interested in no one within 200 miles carries them. I am starting to eyeball the zillion rods, which where one of the first one I looked at initially. Heard they balance perfectly with the zillion reels and are way underated powers. They say they are about the best rod in the price range you can get. Around 200.00, plus a lifetime warranty, which I have decided is one of the more important things to me in this and higher price range. Not to painful to fork over a 100 for a broken rod but 300 really hurts the rear pocket

I have also read the tatulas are about the same but a lot cheaper...ever heard that

I feel the same as you nick. I had the carbonlite could feel all kinds of bites and went to a champion and was really disappointed. I dialed it back to veracity and cashion in the 150 range, they are good but I read about these MB rods and really am interested if I had the cash to see if they are that good I know folks with the orichi and they back up the hype. I also want to try an avid to see about these being the best at $200 range.

Oh and one more thing the guy I know who has the orichi had a local rod builder install a hook keeper well the guy epoxied the nut on the reel seat. Long story short MB really helped him out and I think at a pretty minimal cost like shipping only.

I honestly think beyond the 250 mark or so would be diminishing returns, I mean does anyone REALLY NEED a 500 or 1000 dollar rod to catch fish. Most of the guys i know that fish a lot have 15 or 20 combos with the most expensive combo being 150 to 200 and he said he has never heard a fish tell him they preferred a 300, 500 dollar rod...lol
Plus I have been fishing my hole life and the 7 year old JM elithe rod I have been using has recoil guides and seems pretty dang sensitive to me as I can tell what I am going over with it

I guess it is like knifes, do you need a 300.00 zt, no, but it is nice to have that kinda refinement so to each thier own

The zillions would be fine too. Keep in the mind the zillion reels they say balance those out perfectly are also 8.8 oz. That means you go to a lighter reel it will be tip heavy. The megabass rods carry a 3 year warranty and if it is gunna break it will break well before that. Like mcs I was dissapointed in the dobyns too. I think they just dress a savvy blan up with prettier lighter components as you go up the line. Now the hp looks like a whole new animal. The tatulas with the svf blank are very close to a zillion. Again it's the difference in components as you increase price. Any if the rods you have mentioned wouldn't let you down one bit regardless of what price range it is. Although when it comes to insane sensitivity there is always a price to pay.
I used to use a legend elite back when they were st croix's top line. I loved it but then hated it when I used my dad's glx in similar specs because the sensitivity was ridiculous compared to it. But that is my opinion

It's likes pool! It's not the stick it's the shooter lol. I can honestly tell you the most fun I've had fishing was when I was using a lightning rod and pinnicle reel when I was a kid....I caught more fish then then i do now

I always figure decent loomis to be out of my range, but they too peek my curiosity. I'd love to try all these rods lol I wanna feel and see for my own what everyone else raves about.....
