Flashlights

AZ2AK I know that feeling well when you have gone through all the high probability areas and realize that "it" may be gone forever. Your statement "I'm thinking about landyarding everything to my self" is like we are literally enslaved to our possessions. However I believe man is hard wired to own possessions and it was part of our early survival. Without collecting berries, meat ,flint arrow heads/knives, and clubs we as a civilization would have perished. We needed these items readily available for our daily existence, might say they were EDCed by cavemen. Our survival today is not much different than our predecessors a quarter million years ago. The need for food, shelter and protection still demand we EDC perceived possessions to accomplish this goal. If my Hinderer XM 18, HDS Flashlight, proper outdoor clothing or gun goes AWOL on me, I panic !

Thanks guys. Yeah, it's a bit silly to freak out over losing a thing.. That said, all kinds of horror scenarios were playing in my head - for example, we went to see Lone Survivor the other night (a rare trip to the movies) and I imagined it slipping out of my pocket..

Jensen, I believe our flashlight obsession is certainly tied to the need for fire and security. Torches have been used throughout man's progression. The discovery of fire, then harnessing it's mystical powers was important not only for warmth, but lighting up the night and keeping predators at bay. Of course cooking with fire made those woodchuck steaks taste a whole lot better than eating them raw. Today many take for granted illumination, streets, autos, homes, stadiums, anyplace we go there are lights. So EDCing a flashlight is so normal and a very critical component of our survival package.

FO, you make me feel so much better about spending my money on quality EDC items :) It's my caveman instinct all along.... Good thing my wife is awesome/supporting of it too.

I've used my flashlights in each of these environments and so, so many more. Once you adopt the light it's difficult not to rely on it...sometimes I purposely go at things in dark conditions too just so I don't get too spoiled or lose a "skill".

I am looking forward to getting my HDS today. USPS says "out for delivery"!! I ordered it Friday evening, and I will be receiving it today! I kinda feel guilty for having it work out the way it is since many of you waited a long time for yours:) I just decided I wanted one, looked at this thread and saw there was a dealer that had some, looked on HDS and started looking through the dealers and found the right one. It must be fate! I did sell a 2 cell surfire to justify the purchase but between the HDS and SWM, I should be pretty set for my light needs for now.

I just sent my Tri off to be re-programmed. Hopefully will have it back at the end of the week. Adding Firefly and moonlight modes on the low end, and a flashing strobe on the high. Also changing how the Memory works with a shorter latch time.

Dang, and you'll miss all that joyful anticipation like I had for about ....... a Year waiting and waiting and w a i t i n g sleepless nights, no appetite.

Just - waiting :(

Congrats Man!! Happy for you. Let us know what you think after you have thoughts.

Well, I am not one for joyful anticipation, when I want something, I want it pretty quickly:) I will definitely share my thoughts when I get it in my hands.

You and me both. Waiting has never been my strong suit. I am actually experiencing vicarious excitement awaiting the arrival of your light for you...
so, Thank You for that :)

Patience, what's that?

If I was a Patient I wouldn't even be able to be patient. Actually I'd be a very impatient Patient which wouldn't make me good at it strangely enough.
Nurse would probably say, " Be patient Patient Rubi to which I'd reply by showing Nurse Kratchit the picture F.O. posted and probably be imprisoned or interred or committed only making the problem worse.
What were we talking about?

Amusing, guys.

I have developed quite a tolerance for many things. Patience is a must to keep a level head in many situations. If you knew how much I want for textured Ti for G4 3.5s and many other things you would find it very odd seeing how little I beg for this stuff.

As for the HDS light wait period...I lump it into the category of "is what it is" or seemingly "was what it was" as many seem to be getting their lights substantially quicker than a few of us experienced.

First impressions... This seems to be a nice little light. Totally carry able. Works great with the lanyard tucked under my belt and "hanging" in my left pocket. Beam seems nice, it is kinda dark in my basement. A bit brighter hotspot but not as much flood as the swm v11r that will share pocket/house duties. I consider this a good thing as it was exactly what I was looking for. Here's a pic:

Congrats..they are indeed nice little lights. Not perfect, but little is...so, they do very well at what they are designed and configured to do.

Congrats mraymond. That is a sweet hds. Looks great with your cf slicer. My next flashlight purchase will be an hds rotary 250. I love my 170 clicky. It's my go to light. It's actually hard to imagine a light more perfect for what I use it for. Enjoy!
