Flashlights

Also, the package appeared to be missing a piece. Theres a molded area above the light. Was there supposed to be something there?

Thanks for sharing a pic of the current packaging, I hadn't seen it. Interesting that there is a provision for the clip that is supposedly in the works.

Mine is the same way too. I am not sure it's purpose but it seems to be part of the manufacturing process? As for the packaging, mine arrived the same way. If you look closely at the package, I think it will give some insight to what the soon to come rotary clip will look like. I am envisioning a tough rubber band to slip over the rotary knob or the head if you want to carry it that way.

A couple more observations after having the light outside in the dark. I always considered the Surefire E2D LED defender that I had to have a very throwy beam. My SWM is very floody. I think the HDS is a perfect mix of both. Perhaps it is the bump in lumens over the e2d but the throw definitely is on par or slightly outperforms the surefire while having a wider beam/hotspot.

I really like the utility of this thing. The rotary brightness control to get just the right amount of light + the simple UI to get to burst mode, beacon and strobe makes it a great all around EDC light. I see the stobe coming in handy when crossing dark streets on my evening walks (pointed at the ground of course). Some of you have said that the HDS is a close equivilent to the XM-18 in the light world. Lots of utility, great fit/finish, small company with some very picky front men that have an eye for quality and refuse to let sub par products get into the hands of their customers.

I now will not/can not leave the house without my XM18 AND HDS Rotary in my pocket - I use them Both everyday too much to not have them at the ready.
Just last night, I had already gone through my ritual of emptying my pockets when I realized the Dogs needed their last potty trip before bedding down.
I went outside and realized my light was upstairs in the drawer. Going out in the woods, where I live - without my Rotary..... I was not enjoying the potty break.
I never would have predicted (pre-carry) just how much I use my knife and my light everyday/all day. Amazing to me.
The rotary function and where it is located has simply become a non-negotiable aspect of my EDC light.
As my Friend Final Option said so well.... "My itch has been scratched".
Actually a very liberating feeling to know you have found and own and use - the Tool for You (My Hinderer and my HDS)

Thank you. I'll admit to not reading all 40 pages, but jumping to the end. I'll read the earlier information now.

Oh goodie more "hole conversation".

Basically, it's been discussed. And like some think human's noses are just there to interpret smells they fail to realize the benefit it provides for respiration...with the mouth closed...maybe just mouth breathers see it as a tool for smelling...IDK?

I miss the baggies...gave the light more of a custom/bespoke type impression...new packaging gives a more commercial vibe.

Yes. If being a Forum "Mod" has taught me anything it is that once a thread goes past two(2) posts - early information is buried forever :) This thread is now 43 pages deep so, go figure.
"Holes" on the other hand.... now that can be a deep discussion (sorry, couldn't resist) and serve many purposes but, for the sake of this discussion - the HDS hole is noticed (by some) and never seen by others. Even those who spot it immediately and wonder "Hmmm I don't remember ordering the optional hole"
Never see it again after a few days, how could they? Need another light to see your first light. Where does it end.
As for the "baggies" - I miss them as well but I suppose time waits for no man (or light) and progress is unavoidable. I'm Happy I own Genuine Baggie Era lights and will always refer to them as such, no fancy packages for me.

Hopefully it's permissible to incorporate some levity into this discussion :)

I am not certain who you are speaking about in reference to "mouth breathers" but I am curious what happened to you being "more than pleasant on the forums"?

Congrats Dawgfan on your HDS arrival!! They are sweet!! Never thought I'd love a flashight so much!!! But I do!

Ok, now I have something cool for you to try.

Kwazy, too cool! Don't know what that is kind of like a dim disco strobe? My guess is its some kind of demo mode, surprised i hadn't stumbled on the 5 click setting... I did find the 4 click locator beacon right after I got it, and that was entertaining.... I'm still working on my final impressions of the 250, have been carrying it every day for a couple of weeks now, using rcr123's, and so far my only quip is missing the HICRI tint (neutral 170 now on order)... had it on the hill at night with 50 some odd ski patrollers the other night in a lift evac drill without lights after sundown, 15deg for 1hr45min hanging in a chairlift (oh what fun!) , and....it was the BRIGHTEST thing on the hill, even eclipsed the handheld ATV spot light! everybody was like whoa......lit up the linesaver on the haul cable like a spotlight from a police helicopter...... I'll be posting some kind of a review soon with pics, and my experiences with the HDS bezel and other pocket inhabitants......hint the HDS does not get along with others, unless the others wear a flaming horse logo!

Ok, I am going to admit some ignorance. I stumbled upon the 4 click beacon and didn't know how I turned it on. I ended up resetting the light to stop it. The 5 click mode is interesting. I wonder what the purpose is? When I pointed the light at the ceiling, I noticed that the 5 click mode does a pretty good job of mimicking a flickering candle.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner. The five click is considered an "Easter egg" and it is supposed to be akin to a flickering candle. Either that, or that mode aids in respiration of the rotary, depends who you ask..

;)

I thought you HDS guys would enjoy this video:

Haha! That's what I was thinking.... mimicking a candle :) That's pretty sweet! Just goes to show how much thought has gone into these. This just excites me to what i can program this thing to do :D

You can turn off the locator beacon mode with 4 clicks and turn it off with 4 clicks

Wowcoop, that's cool to hear some feedback about the light in some serious outdoors scenario. That's cool it out shined the ATV spot light

Very cool stuff about the hidden capabilities of the UI. I am hesitant to try the 5 click program, afraid I won't be able to go back to the preset, however that flickering candle thing has piqued my interest, maybe just the right ambiance for dinner tonight for the wife and myself! Hey Wowcoop, how did the rcr123s hold up, big disadvantage of the rechargeables is the reduced run time.

Don't do it F.O.!! Back away from the Light. We are of the age that "If it ain't broke ......" I almost tried futzing with mine (light) last night and regained my senses.
Enjoy your "functioning just fine" light just like it is unless you have befriended a local 9 year old that can undo technical glitches once set free :)
Just sayin....

It's not too difficult to return to the defaults. For example, remove power for an extended period of time and it'll most likely go back to original settings.

I am gonna play point/counterpoint with Rubi:) DO IT FO! The 5 click "Easter egg" doesn't mess with the preset as far as I know (it is a factory preset). And just as N2K stated, you can go back to factory presets in the highly unlikely that it did mess something up. I learned this when I thought I inadvertently turned on the 4 click "locator beacon" without knowing what I did. I opened the light for 60 seconds and it went back to normal.

I'll play. Is it just 5 clicks from OFF?

ALL I get is a blinking light
