Flashlights

WOW Fellas! Ya'll know how to welcome somebody! I'm a member of several forums, and have never felt so accepted before! I think I'm gonna like it here! The sooner I can afford me an XM, the better! Thanks again ya'll! On a similar note, I am a bit of a flashaholic, but I'm in the middle of a double here at the psych hospital. I'll get a few light pics up here in the next few days for ya'll.

Thanks for the update Wowcoop, I do believe it's time to upgrade to VP1. I always check my rcr123's before going into the charger with an ohm/volts meter and check the recharged ones coming off, I think I need a better charger like the VP1 to recycle during the charge and the ability to actually see what is going on during that process. One thing with the HDS 250 Rotary, and I believe all the HDS flashlights Henry has designed them to stay consistent with lumens, and not jump up lumens even though you may be pumping 4.1 volts through it. Found that tidbit in his on line info.

All this talk about the VP1, and I think I will have to purchase one in the future. :) I will wait til I'm through the twenty cr123's I got for a dollar a piece though.

I think it's going to take me awhile.

I'm with you KJ. I bought an 8 pack of sure cell cr123 primaries for a good price. When those are gone, or close to it, I will look into rechargeables.

For sure Michael!! Haha! So has anyone attempted customizing there UI on there rotary yet?

I've read through the user guide a little... Just haven't attempted yet

May want to get the new VP2 that just became available. I'm gonna wait for some reviews first.

Joe, I would purchase the VP1 or VP2 from a different site than HDS's. It can be found for $20-$25 cheaper. The VP2 is basically $2 more, so....

If size and output are the issue. You may really want to consider the Nitecore EC1. It is capable of running on a single rcr123 cell. It is as small as thumb (depending on the thumb) and has an output in turbo mode of just less then 300 lumens with over 5,000 candela so it throws really well.

The nitecore i2 charger has served me well also and has the trickle charge and can charge single or double and various different size rechargables.

The 5 click candle mode is a definite hit with me, I'm such a sucker for gimmickry! Hoping the 170 neutral rotary will have both the candle mode and the warmth of my 120HCRI....and my 120HCRI is also sans candle mode, I'm thinking Henry snuck the easter egg in to the new lights for kicks...... What a whimsical chap he is! My experience with the RCR123's so far is limited to only two weeks time or so, and I haven't had a need to change out or re-charge the battery yet. I'm using the AW 750mAh 3.7v charged to 4.1v via the XTAR VP1 charger. So far I couldn't be happier with the output of the 250, the longevity of the AW 750mAh, and the digital display on the XTAR VP1 charger....but I'm only on the first battery and the first charge cycle.....Does anyone know what the shelf life is on an idle RCR123 charge? Can they last weeks, months? My current user has been in my 250 for about two weeks, and seen some evil cold temps, without so much as a flicker{other than candle mode :)}.... I'm tempted to call henry and interrogate him for more easter eggs.....I'm so greedy!

I emailed Henry this weekend, and one of my questions was specifically about the 5 click candle mode. He said it's standard on all new lights. Makes the wait for mine even harder!

Anybody know if the Easter egg 5-click stays if you alter other features of the programming? For example, activating momentary.

Dang! I didn't think of that! Seriously though, (deleted since it was speculation). However, think of how KOOL ghost stories with the kiddies'd be with an electric candle in your pocket for effect?!

On a side note, I think I might get me another bezel to mill tritium slots into after mine gets here.

Yes Sir, it does stay with reprogramming. I haven't try with turning on momentary though.

The Xtar charger is intriguing me, I like the idea of the voltage/capacity display, so I'm most likely going to pick one up.

On a related note, does anyone know of a reputable online source for AW RCR123 batteries? I've found them for sale, but prices vary tremendously and while I want to find a good deal I also don't want to buy knockoffs.. PM please :)

Oh yeah, does anyone have any experience with Xtar's 16340 600mAh batteries?

Wonderlite on CPF is an authorized AW dealer and even has a website.

I've never had xtar batteries but kinoko an efest have always worked for me

Just found out my amazing Wife ordered me an HDS 250 Rotary for my birthday. I can't wait!
