Flashlights

The 250 rotary is now next to the Wharnie right front pocket. 200 rotary is riding bedside with my Glock and 3 mags.

Thanks FO :) McGizmo Haiku XP-G2 with a CR123 Surefire primary. I think it max's out at 200 lumens, which isn't as bright as some others, but the quality of the beam is really nice and more then enough for everyday use.

and because we all like pics

That's is a great photo!! Matches your username very well :)

Does anyone use AW IMR 16340's in their HDS lights? I was thinking about picking up that Xtar vp1 (or vp2?) charger and some AW IMRs.

I do (both the AW IMRs which I have mentioned before and I have the XTAR VP1 charger as well). I highly recommend the AW IMR batteries.

My SWM will get much brighter with the rechargeables and the non protected/safe chemistry cells seem to be the most preferred for the SWM.

My V10R Ti and M11R Ti both benefit from the AW IMRs.

I am hoping that they will work just fine in the HDS so I can take advantage of the economies of scale:)

The AW IMRs work in the HDS as well, I use them in all my lights.

I can't make a dent in the 160+ cr123's I have in stock or I'd join you guys in the rechargeable fest.

Considering my new found appreciation for flashlights, I truly don't need the rechargeables at this moment. I have 2 relatively new Duracell 123s in my lights and 6 more waiting to be used. I think I will see how long it will take to use a battery or two before I decide if I need to go down the rechargeable route. Although the increased output with a rechargeable in the v11r, might make me want to carry it... The HDS has relegated it to backup duty.

What RDA said about AW IMRs is spot on. I do use a couple of other brands, but would highly recommend sticking to the AWs. AW + VP1 = great rechargeable combo

Ugh... I am supposed to be shopping for a good folder now I reading threads about amazing flashlights

RDA are you using unprotected IMR's AW's (red, your favorite color)I know with HDS lights Henry has built in circuitry that prevents the battery from over draining and mitigates the higher voltage. What I understand the protected AW's prevent overcharging and draining down past safe levels. With the VP1 charger overcharge is not an issue, however running the battery down in non HDS torches from what I read could permanently damage the battery, however run times are longer too, your thoughts.

Rubi, as far as non rechargeables the shelf life is 10 yrs, so I would relegate them as spares in vehicles, bug out bags and when we lose power for an extended period of time. Oh by the way the VP1 comes with a car charger. Yes you know you can't resist the pull into the world of rechargeables.

A little subliminal thought for the day, AW IMR 16340 and VP1

Yes, the AW IMRs are unprotected but that is because they have a safer chemistry. This is one of the reason I use the IMRs is because the chemistry is safer yet they still store their charge well, provide high amperage and higher drain. That being said, any battery can fail and result in an unsafe condition when shorted, stored improperly, charged improperly or generally has a failure.

I have a few LiOn rechargeables, but don't use them much since I purchased the AW IMRs. I also keep about two dozen Panasonic CR123s in my inventory as backup but not much point in using them up while the shelf life is still good and you have rechargeables.

This thread should be renamed the "ok, I just spent a bunch more money because you guys keep talking about cool stuff"!! (Because I just did :o:D)

Just dropped an order for an Xtra (ha, XTAR) VP2 - I had a VP1 in the shopping cart until I saw the post about the VP2 so I figured I may as well give it a try.. Also have some AW protected R123s on the way, which brings me to my question: they are 750mAH vs the 550 mAh unprotected AW IMR 16340s, have you guys used both and have any feedback either way?

My order for the protected batteries hasn't shipped yet and I might add some of the unprotected ones to give them a go..

Oh yeah, I also decided that I HAD TO HAVE a V10R Ti+ and a V11R just cuz to go with my HDS rotary.. variety, spice of life, or some such excuse like that :)

I'm just hoping somebody doesn't start a thread on "scratch off" lottery tickets

We are a buncha sick bastards - Fun isn't it :D

RDA agreed on the chemistry and all the accompanying benefits. I did locate some 16340's AW IMR's like AZ,protected 750 mAH, I'll give them a go. On a side note I was reading that the the IMR was mislabeled, it should have been LMR ( lithium magnesium rechargeable) the I should have been an L, it stuck.

Well AZ you have been busy! The SWM 10R and the V11R seem to take full advantage of rechargeables extra volt and you are rewarded with a noticeable increase of lumens.

Come on Rubi give in, you know that you want the rechargeables and charger, oh wait what's that you already placed your order.

Remember back when Rick mentioned starting gear review threads? Luckily, those didn't get going. I'd be upgrading my boots, clothing, gloves, goggles, sunglasses, hunting equipment, comms gear, EDC satchel/bag, luggage, mountain bike, scuba gear, walking stick, rappelling gear, chapstick, keychain, and even my socks on a frequent basis as the conversation proved one item better than another.:D

True that. I guess the positive outcome for some who read these types of threads is - they benefit greatly and save a ton of money skipping right to the "right" choice many times.
I laugh, I was having lunch with a buddy just yesterday and the subject went to "Tools" I happen to Love - Tools (ALL kinds) specifically we were talking snow blowers.
I have a monster track drive Honda.
He has a BCS.
So, now I gotta go research BCS snowblowers (which I did) and the texting starts, mines does this. Yeah but mine does this... back and forth.
We settled on - mine throws snow 49.2' and his only 37' - Ha! Honda for the Win!
But honestly, that BCS is a cool Beast. All kinds of attachments and accessories...... sorta like this knife I really like. What the hell is it called again :D

I'm telling you guys, there is no hope for us, we are hard wired to our ancestors of a quarter million years ago.

As they were sitting around the fire at night I can only imagine the conversation went something like this; hey Grog did you see that piece of stick Thug was carrying, he hit a rabbit in the head with it and killed it with just one swing, I got to get one. How about that skunk hat Morph was wearing, probably warmer than these chipmunks my wife tied together that I wear. I hear some tribe over the hill uses black glass they found over at hot mountain they tie to a stick and throw at woodchucks to kill them. I'm telling you Grog it is hard to keep up with all this new stuff!

Too Funny F.O. was sorry to see the story end. I will give credit where it is due - IMO we ALL have a genuine interest in Quality (it isn't a jumping with the Jone's thing).
Heck, If I can find a better stick not only am I going for it but, I'm tellin' my Buddies about it so they can smash some heads or ventilate some chucks!

Here I am when my daughter was two and we were headed out to clear driveways.

Snow w Alaina3s.jpg

42" wide clears a lot of snow. Those Honda track driven snow blowers are pretty cool (literally and figuratively).

It was all downhill once the wheel rolled in...
