Flashlights

Here I am when my daughter was two and we were headed out to clear driveways.

42" wide clears a lot of snow. Those Honda track driven snow blowers are pretty cool (literally and figuratively).

I got a "taste" for the power one winter. I put it in reverse and hit the Drive Handle which promptly got stuck in my jacket keeping it in the "Go" position.
The Blower drove me backwards into a snow bank and the tracks started climbing me - the augers and impeller spinning at about 1100 rpm's - Thank God for
God/Adrenaline and sheer panic. All I remember was thinking " I am not dying like this".
I must have grabbed the Blower and threw the whole machine sideways because it flew one way and I flew the other and it was all over but while it was happening time moved s l o w.
Flashback to when I was 11 years old and a similar thing happened with our lawn tractor but with a much worse ending. Dad taught me how to drive it but... Forgot
about the stopping it part. I went to park it in the garage and when I swung in and saw the wall I realized the omission in my lesson.
Tractor hit the wall and started climbing, I held on until it went vertical and fell straight back with me holding on for dear life.
Smashed me right into a concrete floor. My oldest Brother found me unconscious under it still running. Broke more stuff than I can list.

True it is. I will say, just shooting the two(2) here in the office (at the desk) the 250 has a noticeably more intense hot spot so, if that translates to brightness/focus tonight in the woods.... so be it (cool).
Had the light come on in my pocket already (raised switch) hope that was (will be) a rare anomaly, we shall see.
I like the ease of operation of the raised button -vs- the recessed. Never use tail standing all that much.
What else? Oh, the all black makes the light appear a little larger than my silver bezel one.... (note to self, nevermind).
But anyway, I do like me some HDS torches.:)

Whoa, easy there ;) The 250 rotary I recently picked up also has the raised cap, I prefer it to the recessed one on the 170 I traded away. I've had it come on in my pocket twice - once I noticed right away as I clicked the button as I was pocketing it the second time I didn't notice until my pocket became unpleasantly warm. It hasn't happened since the second time, I think just paying a bit more attention to it helps a lot.

Does anyone use AW IMR 16340's in their HDS lights? I was thinking about picking up that Xtar vp1 (or vp2?) charger and some AW IMRs. My SWM will get much brighter with the rechargeables and the non protected/safe chemistry cells seem to be the most preferred for the SWM. I am hoping that they will work just fine in the HDS so I can take advantage of the economies of scale:)

Lol, sorry - I missed this post and asked essentially the same question a little while ago (and also on CPF).. I am interested in trying out the difference myself.

Thanks FO :) McGizmo Haiku XP-G2 with a CR123 Surefire primary. I think it max's out at 200 lumens, which isn't as bright as some others, but the quality of the beam is really nice and more then enough for everyday use.

and because we all like pics

Great pics, thanks! The difference across the beam tints is interesting, almost makes a rainbow :)

Just got back in. The 250 is definitely brighter and more focused in throw. I like that.
Noticeable.
Both nice lights and different enough to have both.
For those who own or are contemplating either....both great EDC lights.

Rubi, thanks for the update - too many choices ;)

Remember back when Rick mentioned starting gear review threads? Luckily, those didn't get going. I'd be upgrading my boots, clothing, gloves, goggles, sunglasses, hunting equipment, comms gear, EDC satchel/bag, luggage, mountain bike, scuba gear, walking stick, rappelling gear, chapstick, keychain, and even my socks on a frequent basis as the conversation proved one item better than another.:D

Well if you need a place to dump all of your "old" gear as you upgrade, lemme know - I'll be glad to help! Except for your chapstick and socks.

Its looking like I will soon be the owner of a one of a kind Mac's Knurly EDC in copper. Neutral in tint to my Cool Tri-EDC (which should be back from the shop getting reprogrammed any day now).

^^ Sweet! (Actually I know very little/nothing about those lights, but it sounds cool :o - a knurled copper flashlight just conjures all kinds of neat images to mind.) Pics when able!

Here is what the Knurly looks like, its just like the Tri-EDC, just a different body.

I have heard great things about Mac's lights. I have also looked at his site and priced a few out more than one time. I am content with my HDS for now though.

AZ I think you win for inheriting more caveman genes when it comes to the acquisition of any EDC necessities, however you have very stiff competition from N2K and the pack is right behind you.

Here is your facial expression when the wife comes into your "Man Cave" and complains that you have enough stuff and she needs a new leopard dress ( you know they do look hot in those skins). Just when your wounds were just about healed from her last request, a wolverine cape.

I can already picture her with that new skin tight leopard ensemble ( mink hand warmer, otter slippers, and beaver....... )

That picture might change just a little... After she tried on her new leopard skin for you, she would have a club mark on her head and a couple drag marks. Haha! :D

I don't know about that KJ, I think they were every bit as tough as the men, maybe more so. More reason to honor their request! Maybe do the happy dance and get lucky.

That was the point of the club mark and dragging, back to the cave... For the happy dance :D Haha! You know some ol' caveman chivalry!

And its here. This is the neutral emitter (the older neutral) so it is very warm.

Forgot to mention, this thing is solid. Lots of mass. Just need to figure out a carry solution, as this does not have the pocket clip.....

Ya, that is an option, as is getting it drilled and tapped for clip. Anyone have a leather holster they would recommend?
