Flashlights

Your friend sounds a little immature, hobos have quite a history and one made his way to the Supreme Court, William Douglas. Many Civil War, WW1, WW2, Korea, Viet Nam, and most likely our current vets have found this life of traveling and comradely particularly agreeable to them after seeing the horrors of war. A little empathy on his part would be in order. Too bad he sees the value of a knife in its stabbing potential.

Your job as a friend is to call him out and re educate him on the most valuable tool ever created, good luck !
He's actually quite smart. He carries a vic spartan I gave him. His knife use is primarily an eating utensil though. I'm not sure where the hobo thing came from. I'm assuming from institutional living, he's worked here 20 years. He's a coworker more than a friend, but nonetheless, he's too lazy to stab anything.

I guess we all have friends with unexplained quirks. There was an HBO series on about ten years ago called Deadwood, old westerner town with a lot of violence. The bar keeper and man pulling the strings of everyday life had a saying I thought was interesting, " we all have bloody thoughts". Sort of a random thing, but to a degree probably some truth to it.

The wife came through for me! She bought me the Maratac CR123 light, and a bunch of other gear from the same website that I wanted. Now I just need to get a battery in it!

Here are the pix of the light:

I think you will enjoy your Maratac, some one said carrying it in your pocket fells like a roll of quarters. I don't think it feels that heavy, but I enjoy all the milling and the copper look, plus the simple twist operation. A little hint that I picked up on CF is put a couple of wraps of plumbers Teflon tape on the threads, just enough so they aren't seen. If gives it an even more solid operating feel and keeps it from twisting inadvertently.
Your wife is very thoughtful !

That's an awesome looking light muphasta. Let us know how you like it after carrying it for a while. You've got a cool wife! Congrats. :)

So, I've been carrying the light in my pocket for the better part of 10 days now. It sits in my right front pocket under my wallet. I don't even notice it, unless I need/want a light, then I remember it is there. A nice bright little light in a very nice form factor. i'm not out hitting rocks w/it, but I'm not babying it either. The patina and small surface scratches will be giving it character over time. and, if I wanted to at some point in the future, I could always polish it up again.

I thought that the twist on/off would be harder to use than it is. I figured that I'd need two hands, but quickly realized how simple it is to use. There is also a "Sweet spot" where the light is off, but w/a little pressure, I can turn it on, and quickly go through the various brightness levels. It isn't ideal for long use, but for a couple of seconds of light, it works well.

^ Thanks! I might have to try one myself. I'm a big copper guy. I edc a copper lenslight micro that is a twist on/off and I really like that feature. I find that clicky flashlights turn on in my pocket quite often. I've never had an accidental on with a twisty.

I only carry a twisty along for commercial air travel, out on the town or to events where minimal gear is a must. Other than that it's the benefits of a easy one-hand operated rear clicky for me. I know...if you hold this / that in a certain way you can one-hand other lights, but the simplicity of the tail clicky is how I roll most often.

Google raven workshop keygrip. You'll thank me!;)

If they offer a version with the milled out areas maybe I'll give it some interest. I loath keys, always cumbersome and most often in the way.

Amen brother! I've already got something similar, but it's longer & agrivating to deploy. It seems the older ya get, the more keys, & discount cards ya have to carry around.
