Flea market finds

Picked this Imperial Barlow up at a flea market today. I know it isn't anything special, but they were practically giving it away, so I figured why not. Had some rust on the blades, and the joints were gritty, but it cleaned up alright. Looks like it used to have a company name or something on the covers, but it has worn off.

Congrats, Barrett!:thumbup: You've got it looking good already, and I think it's a pretty special flea market find. (But I might be biased because those are that's the kind of knife people had when I was growing up back in the 50s and 60s.)

So I'm sort of kicking myself right now. When we were looking around at a couple flea markets today, I saw an Imperial Kamp King scout knife that I thought was kind of interesting. I thought about going and finding someone to come and open the locked case it was in so I could look at it, but I didn't see anyone nearby, and the price (while not terrible) was a little over my casual "hey, why not" price point. So I left it there.

Then, as I was looking at the Imperial Tang Stamp Chart thread I just linked to in my post above, I noticed this picture...

...and realized that I should've bought the Kamp King. You see, I have that fixed blade, and the sheath that holds both knives. I found it in my great-grandmother's fishing tackle box years ago. It's in "well-used" condition to say the least, but it's still a great old knife, sharpens up like a razor, and has sentimental value to boot.

What I don't have is the Kamp King scout knife that would have come with it originally as part of the "Hunting and Scout Knife Combination."

The flea market I saw the Kamp King at is a bit far from the house, so I don't know if we'll be able to go back there tomorrow. I may try to go on Monday after work. Hopefully it'll still be there. It would be really cool to have the scout knife that goes with my great-grandmother's old fishing knife.

clutchcarter, I have my grandfather's old Colonial "camper's combination knife"...unfortunately it is missing the blade. It's neat to see one still in the packaging! Some neat finds!

Cool to have your Grandfather's. I'm a sucker for old knives still in their packaging.

This was a fleamarket find, probably one of my nicest.

Here's a nice Colonial Forest Master complete with ballchain Magnifyin' Glass and Compass, ya rarely find these whole in one piece.

The scales are hard black plastic the blades are stainless, the stamping is

I love the old advertising knives and pick them up whenever I run across them.
I have a decent little collection of Mellon knives and some of them are even put to use once in awhile.

Nice find brother nice find with the magnifying glass and compass

It's like finding one of theses with the plastic lanyard intact 30 years ago I coulda bought this card full for less than a new Yellow case Sodbuster and I didn't, STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.

I always enjoy seeing that Forest-Master combo of yours, Ted. My first knife, and basically only knife until 2 years ago, was a Forest-Master that I got new about 1960. Mine didn't come with all the accoutrements, though; just the knife. I often had a Cracker Jack magnifier in my pocket, at least until the plastic got too scratched to see through or I lost it. Here's my first knife as it looks today:

Well used well loved.:) Mine has that china doll feel, it's not really valuable but it's rare to find one so complete, even with the box insert. I need to take new pic with the new camera.

ETA I don't get to play with mine. :(

I'll have to take some better pictures of the pair when I have more appropriate lighting.
