Can a folding bushcraft knife compete with the fixed blade version?

I've updated my webpage to reflect Brown Canvas Micarta as well as G10 liners.

The liners are held down with 2-ton epoxy, just like a fixed blade. I rough the surfaces up and make sure they are dead flat before glue-up. Tons of contact room. That said, if they should ever fail - no biggie, send it back and I will replace it free of charge.

Thanks!
Dan

I've also updated the warranty which is published at the bottom of the page.

Folders are different than fixed blades - as there are parts to be concerned about, rather than just material performance.

Make sure you read the warranty before agreeing to complete an order.

Thanks!
Dan

fantastic looking folder Dan. Really impressed.

Do you maybe have one free or they are all reserved?

All 20 are spoken for and have been confirmed. That said, anything could happen - if someone backs out, I will definitely let you know. It goes to those on my pre-order list first, and then posted here afterwards.

Nice looking knife but a folding bushcraft knife is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. Anyone who would buy or carry a folder for bushcraft is an idiot who should not be allowed to own a knife.

Your knife may serve wonders for general edc cutting tasks but it will never be useful for heavy bushcraft.

Come on man, that's no way to talk and call people names who use tools like this. Nobody said that this will outperform fixed blade but it is damn close.

Really, your post would be much more useful if you told us your experience with folding knives/fixed and bush-craft work so that we can hear/learn something new. To be honest, your tone is one of a spoiled kid.

I think I'd rather take Dan's word for the quality of his knives, thanks...

I never said the quality was bad. We all know, he makes great stuff. My point is that a folder for heavy bushcraft is just about as useless as a rock for carving. Try batoning with this folder and see how long it takes to ruin the tolerances and develop problems like, blade play, lock slippage, off center blade.

If it's light stuff like carving and whittling then yes, this should do just fine. Any good folder will, however anything beyond that and you're better off using a fixed blade if you don't want to break/ruin your folder.

I take it you never read the post you just made then?

That is a more polite way to express your opinion, although you still seem prone to exaggeration. :o
Dan seems happy with his prototypes. Those on the list for the knife will just have to see for themselves.
A sufficiently determined (or careless, or clumsy) person can break just about anything, but I think that for $365 the new owners aren't going to go out of their way to destroy theirs. ;)
Thanks for the warning! :D

Since your reply was at 2:50 AM , I'll chalk up your reply to lack of sleep . You are definately opinionated, and perhaps you have points. However, to word it as you did creates only a defensive tone from those who read it. Since I am a"Idiot" let me express a Idiots view. You would be better served to show a little humility in your tone and perhaps your life, either way I'm just a "Idiot" so what do I possibly know.
Oh and P.S. Dan, can't wait for mine so I can baton the ever loving shit out of it .... I know your Knife will take it.
