for winter, what Buck ya carrying and how cold is it...

It was -11 this morning shoveling out my driveway in northern Illinois. I learned that I can open my Budgie one-handed while wearing thick gloves. I didn't use it for anything in the snow. It was just fun to play with. No photos because I also learned that I can't manage my phone's camera wearing said gloves.

Well it's going down to 22 here in Ocala Florida and plumbers are very grateful. My Brother Charlie (a plumber) graciously came over and wrapped up my pump with a drop light tarps and horse blanket. Water is running at every sink tub and especially the outside faucet. He told me he will just turn off both his cell and his house phone tomorrow because this will be a very hard freeze for us. Its freezing now at 11:00 pm and it will last for 12 hours or a little longer . I've been using my 111 today..20221223_124208.jpg

yep. i ain't too far away from ya. it's freezing here..almost literally. think we are at 34f right now..what that about 1c. supposed to be in 20s for awhile before daylight. got my 110 on my hip.....coldest it's seen it.

folks up north and out west laughing at us...but we ain't built for this kinda cold.

Merry Christmas, Bucksters!

Technically it was yesterday, but I'm still awake so . . . earlier today, I went to the optometrist to use my vision benefits before the end of the year. When I left the house, it was a pleasant +10F and sunny, so naturally it was back to shorts. On my way home, it was a balmy +13F. Fortunately, we still had a decent breeze to minimize my sweating.

I promise that we definitely are NOT laughing Jesse. We're all in the same boat at some point. We hope your cold spell passes quickly and that you can return to normal weather soon.

Do the orange growers still spray the trees with water to protect the fruit when it goes below freezing down there?

I dont know. they only really grow far south of me anymore after the 1980s series of multiple freezes that destroyed growers where I am. they used to use smudge pots when I was a boy. dont know anymore.

My wife and I planted 30 to 40 trees on our 5 acres all during the 80's and 90's with about 2/3rds were Citrus of one kind or another. All the citrus froze during that series of hard freezes. All the apple peaches and other fruit trees just didn't make it. The very coldest I've seen it was 14% but but the worst was 18 hours below freezing. THAT is a very hard freeze.
