French regional knives...

I have been using my new laguiole the past few days in the hopes of quickly applying a patina to the blade. One thing that I am still getting used to is how lightweight the juniper covers are. My horn covered laguiole from Fontenille-Pataud is a slimmer knife, yet it feels heftier and more solid.

🤔

Thank you sir! The length is about 22cm and I’m not sure what the wood is. it’s not identified in any of the paperwork. I really like the file work on the back spring.

The wood is vine stock (cep de vigne). Very hard. I hope your daughter enjoyed her trip.

Will Power Will Power : knives are measured opened, then they give the blade length.

Went ahead and found a Lombard knife in Walnut, by Adrien Giovaninetti, in 14c28n sandvik steel, I think that is a step up from regular sandvik. Now the long wait.:)

Sharp eye looking on the bill of sale, I was reading the enclosed literature. Vine Trunk makes total sense for a knife with a corkscrew  Is it a commonly used material though? Must be plenty of it about when they grub up old vineyards but I thought it would usually be firewood.

Ouais, I know about the lengths on Gallic knives...just my weak attempt at humour 😸

Not so frequent, because quite hard to work and uneasy to get enough for a complete handle, with the tortured shape.

😋😋😋 Thats the way I understood it!

Here are another couple Laguiole knives. The Issard is a good work blade and has been often used. Nice snakewood handles. The Laguiole en Aubrac is extra sweet imo. Filework all around and wonderfully selected and carved horn. 12 cm closed and 22 open.20220429_110510_HDR.jpg
