GEC #47 Viper

My understanding is that some of the larger orders to dealers are going to be shorted because of a large amount of rejects due to wood cracks. This does not mean that NONE of them will go out.

Sorry to hear 'bout the issue with some of the Snakewood orders. It made me look mine over more closely & mine looks good---great to my eye. Absolutely no flaws that I can see in this one:

If you want pinchability on a Northfield with the 47, better go with the Harvester. The Northfield Viper doesn't pinch well with the swedge.

I havent heard from my guy yet about snakewood preordered.so what happens if a whole lot of them are seconds?probably jumping the gun but fingers crossed.really really looking forward to this.in fact Im quivering with antici...pation.:)

Received my Tidioute Viper today. Very pleased with it. Found it easy to pinch open as compared to my previous Northfield Viper, which I could not pinch open.

Hoping to score a Smooth Oiled Bone.. Didn't pre-order so keeping my fingers crossed all who did didn't!!! John:thumbup:

That's a shame to hear about the pin crack issue. Maybe they can be offered as seconds at a reduced price to those who pre-ordered. The ones I've seen here so far look quite nice.

Sure sorry to hear that some of the Snakewood is cracking , if it is a fact. The pictures that I have seen of the Snakewoods make me wish that I had ordered one too. The pictures of all the other choices are also great looking. Just got my E-Mail today to pay for my reserved Smooth Oiled Bone. Sorry for some people that may not be able to pinch open their Northfields , but it might help if they would try to angle the finger or thumb to push the blade open at first instead of pulling. Just a thought because that is what I had to do with my 73s.

The issue was stress at the lanyard tube and they were all culled as edc's at the factory. But sadly it did hit is really hard.

From what I've read, snakewood is prone to cracking. I'm glad that GEC is screening the knives.

I wonder if the ones that were bought but not yet received from the dealers have been checked for cracks??

I would imagine so. The reason for the shortage is that GEC QA rejected a larger number than expected knives during inspection. From what I heard, the tiny orders all went out in full, as those dealers only had a handful of knives each. The larger dealers with larger orders will be the ones shorted, but I don't think anyone knows by how much.

Thanks for the info Jeff.....I have 2 coming overseas so I should be okay.

RATS, just received word from CK, I was apparently 3 or 4 folks short of the 12 of 35 he received from GEC. A real bummer; I'll take a look at the cracked ones he'll get later but pretty disappointed on this situation.

In a mad scramble I was able to score this beautiful Snakewood today. Feeling very lucky and excited. But sorry to all those who were shorted.

I though these looked great as well, an SFO of black linen micarta. Pic taken from GEC's Instagram.

That black linen micarta really looks good. I'm looking forward to the red linen micarta as well. I hope they get here soon! Here's another shot of the snakewood.

I'm right there with you. Its clearly not CKs fault, but how frustrating indeed.... :grumpy:

I just love the looks of this one. The only way it could be improved, IMHO, is by making it in Tidioute trim, so that the blade could be pinchable. I hope Old Hundred Collectibles will do a Tidioute version next time there is a run of #47s.
