I agree, that 47 is a well balanced design. Bone and elk seem to detract from overall look in my humble opinion. I am a wood lover at heart.
I have a deep purple on the way...my first .
 
How does anyone know when a drop happens? Just keep watching websites like KSF and hope that you get lucky?

What's the reason for the variation in the shield placement? GEC seems really inconsistent with it. The 2020 47 vipers had the so-called incorrect placement. The 2023 47 harvesters went back to the correct spacing, and now the 2023 47 vipers are back to the incorrect spacing.
 
I was able to grab an ebony of the TKN drop today, I’m super excited! I like ironwood but not nearly as much as the ebony in my Angus Jack so I’m looking forward to this one for sure
 
I'm sure I won't land one of these, have no retail contacts to land GECs the last few years. But, I have one very nice GEC 47 viper I purchased at the GEC store on the first day of the 2019 Rendezvous, my only visit to GEC. I waited several hours to get in the store and it was pretty picked over, but there was one 47 viper, a special. Stamped in 2016 so it must have been fixed up for the Rendezvous. I later researched the 2016 GEC production list, and they listed 10 pc.s black linen micarta, with a note on the same line that said "3 LINED BOLSTER" so it's pretty rare I guess. There was an SFO run for Horween Leather in Chicago of 50 vipers, that were similar, but they had no shields. It is a beauty, and because I bought it at my only visit it is a real special folder for me. I'm partial to sway backs anyway...

The new run has some beauties in it though!

Is that the only way to get one at retail? I’d have someone on the inside? I’ve only been collecting for about a year and can never get one on the drops, I subscribe to all the newsletters and stuff but still no dice.
