GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

That's a lot of daily tasks. Since you use it for food after a day's use, do you wash it? Do you wash it after dinner and such? How do maintain that knife with your daily tasks?

Sorry just saw your question... Yes after anything that gets it dirty or messy the blade gets cleaned with soapy sponge and then a rinse with HOT tap water and dried with the dish towel.

Thanks, AZranchman. I like using 1095 for food, especially, to cut meats.

Since this one's headed for some Spring/Summer work, I gave it some Ribeye to ready it for the tasks ahead...

Let's see 'em, Harry & Ron :)

Al - That is looking good my friend. Regrettably I decided to pull out of the race at the start line. My example is one of the stiffest opening knives I own. I oiled it, flushed, reoiled it, and worked it till I demolished my nails on both hands. Now I normally have no trouble at all with a stiff opening knife. I love and carry a 73 a large part of the time. The 77 Red Saw Cut is back in the tube for now. I will enjoy for now watching you and Harry duke it out on the patina battlefield.:D

Thanks, arizonaranchman! I love this style clip blade, too.

Ron, yours is obviously defective. Send it on to me and be done with it :D

Thanks for posting up, Harry!

Working on some ribs and sausages...

Wife: "That's not the same knife you used to clean the weedeater, is it?"
Me: "I think the LSU/Alabama game starts at 1pm. Could you check the schedule for me?"

Fine looking plate of meat there, Al! :D

I've really enjoyed this thread lately. Those sawcut single-clip 77's y'all are putting to use are some great looking knives!

I'm a day late and a dollar short when it comes to these knives, I'm happy to own one though.

I snagged a #77 barlow off of the exchange here recently and I'm glad I did. I was able to get one from the first run which utilized a clip and wharncliffe blade, an "improved barlow"???
The knife is dressed with pioneer bone scales that have a lot of depth and character. It's used, but not abused. I wasn't aware that these knives were even produced until I stumbled across this thread, (I've been out of the loop) these knives went fast it seemed and now I know why.

The knife is extremely comfortable in hand and dual blades are perfect for my everyday needs. The swedges really set this knife apart for me, they add an extra "finished" feel to the knife overall. The long stamped bolster are extremely classy in my opinion and pay homage to the traditional barlows of the past.

This may be my perfect pocket knife!

Perfect meaning it will serve every basic need I have for a pocket knife, I have other knives better suited for hunting and such, but overall this knife isn't going to leave me wanting for anything in terms of my daily use. I don't think this knife was suited for specialized uses anyhow.

This post is just a thank you for those involved in bringing these knives about! I know these knives came out a couple years back, but I think they are something special and deserve that added attention!

So thank you Mike!

That's a beauty Johnny! What a great find. Glad to see you found one and are pleased with it. I can say that since the 77 Barlows came into my life in Feb 2015 I've not carried anything else since. Yes I carry a #2 quite often, but nothing else has ridden in the #1 spot in the right front pocket - only the 77 Barlow.

Great looking knife, johnny twoshoes! I really like that full size clip/wharncliffe combination.

Johnnytwoshoes, great pics! I was eyeing that exact knife on the exchange and thought it might have fallen into your hands. I was gonna PM you to see how you liked it... No need to. I'm very glad you like it. I've noticed you have a affinity to the 73 as well. Also a pattern I enjoy. You have good choice in knives and I'm glad this one went to someone who will use it. Those pioneer bone covers have always captivated me. I have found the 77 series a bit addicting both barlows and jacks. Enjoy!

Arizona, you think that the heat of the summer will blacken up this 77 as much as your sheep?

Harry, I have to say I really like the way that CK pocket slip is aging as well. I carry my 38 Grinling in one of those brown Italian leather slips just obviously not quite as much as you. Those Italian leather slips smell great! Perhaps I'm just weird, perhaps I'm a kin to it by being Sicilian, I dunno.

Harry, and Al, I commend you for using yours. I have an old red clip as well and I love it. I don't carry it very much though because I'm afraid the back dye gonna rub off. I love the way these look. Arizona yours is looking good in the red and getting ready to write novels of it's own. The factory fresh look of this clip point is what drew me to GEC. I'm glad to see you guys using them. I typically use all of my knives except these old reds.
