GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

I've carried this one everyday for three months straight. I have sold off most of my Tc barlows because the 77 frame just seems to fit my hand better. Looking forward to the next run of 77's

I regret selling my old red bone. I kept the stag and micarta but man does your old red look good.

I have not found a knife better than the 77 spear with coping. Hoping for a clip with coping.

Thanks Josh. The sawcut red bone definitely gets better with age and pocket time. I agree, you would be hard pressed to find a better edc knife than the 77 barlow with spear and coping.

Definitely, that coping secondary on the NF 77s is ideal. Gives you a straight-edged blade with some decent length, without having a spine sitting so proud when closed like a full-length Wharncliffe or sheepsfoot blade does. It pairs very well with the spear point.

I'm in for a clip + coping version.

I can't remember how long ago that I started EDC'ing the 77. Maybe a couple months?

This knife is just too perfect not to carry. I love the larger frame. The spear and coping combo is just perfect for my use. The canvas micarta just screams working knife, as any Barlow should. Everything about this particular knife is as tough as could be. And to top it off, the fit and finish is nearly flawless, and the heat treatment is outstanding. Absolutely everything about my 77 speaks to me in a positive way.

I normally buy two of the knives that I really identify with. One to use, and one as backup in case the first one gets lost. But after looking at the GEC production totals, and seeing that only 57 of these were made, I'm willing to call it a miracle that I have even one.

Great looking blades, I totally agree about loving the frame size and heft in all steel. I reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaalllly hope we get a some single pinchable clips and clip coping pairs. Also I hope they're able to come this year. Everything meantioned lately seems to have a late production time. I've carried a 77 one of three i have for months and I think i'll be in for a 2 blade as well.

Looking good Harry and Ron... and Nate that is one fine Barlow! ^^^^

As of a couple of days ago...

Congrats to all that posted on this page and in this thread!!!

Your Barlows exhibit TONS OF CHARACTER:cool::thumbup:

Thanks.
That red though! I think I'll probably end up picking up a sawcut in the next run. I just think the texture, color, and squared edges add so much more character to the knife.

These Barlow runs have just been spectacular - very well done in every aspect from the blade choice, the long-pulls, colors, the "Nf" on the bolster, etc. I've had a 77 Barlow in my pocket EVERY DAY since Feb 2015 when I got my Sheepfoot in blackwood. It was love at first sight!

Merry Mad Monk and Half Stop or Al and Ron : My latest update.

The patina is coming along as much as I choose to make it , but the Black is not wearing off much at all yet.
I am starting to like this knife a lot.

Likewise Harry. As I said in another thread; Pocket knife perfection. :D

I do not know if I would agree withe the Pocket Knife Perfection because I have many others to try yet , but it is the best Barlow that I have . I would like to try a 77 with a Sabre Spear . But these Old Red Saw Cut Bone Cilps are some real jewels Bob !!!!!!

In my opinion Harry, there can be many variations that fit the descriptor "perfection". To me, it just means that it checks all the boxes of what I expect of a pocket knife on any given day. :D
