I know what you mean on the creamed style field corn. I grew up on the stuff in the Ouachita mountains in Ar. Most people don't even know there is corn besides sweet corn but they're missing out! The only things I might add to your meal fit for a king is fresh sliced tomatoes and some fried deer meat. Nice fixed blade by the way, what is it?I love field corn (why should the black bears have all the fun?). Give me some creamed field corn, purple hull peas and okra... and well, kings do not eat better! You have to catch field corn at just the right time... really about a 3-day window. Yesterday, we pulled, cut, shucked, shaved, blanched, bagged, and froze a couple hundred ears. To achieve the best creamed corn requires technique and a sharp knife... shaving the very tips of the kernals first and gradually shaving down to the cob. My trusty Barlow was up to task! I didn't get a pic of the shaving... we were up to our elbows in kernal bits, corn juice/starch and it just didn't occur to me to stop and get a picture. I did, however, remember to take a pic earlier.

My grail, a 77 clip landed yesterday. Wow, what a great blade. Can't wait to start putting a patina on this one.

Well my beloved red sawcut 77 Barlow that's been my constant companion since it's arrival last September fell to the tile floor in the kitchen yesterday, cracking the mark side scale in two places. I called 911 (Glennbad) and it will be enroute to him this week for repairs. The African blackwood single sheepfoot 77 immediately stepped up to fill in for the time being.
Now my dilemma... What scales should I go with since it's going to Glenn for repairs??? I'm open to suggestions, but am thinking Ebony or African blackwood. But also can't help but like sawcut bone for a Barlow! What to do??
I can't get Photobucket to upload pics since yesterday, but when I can I'll post the damage. Hairline crack at the butt of the scale and the other up front near the bolster.![]()
Sorry about your mis-fortune Arizona !!!! I know you liked that knife a lot !!! If that ever happens to mine , I will have some Stag affixed !! Glenn does a great job , from what we have seen pictures of .

Goodness you all have me hankerin' for some country corn! Since the autumn gold barlows seem to be under represented I'll try to carry mine more often. The pattern is bigger than I generally go for so I've been neglecting it.
