GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

Looking good, OE!

I should be getting my first NF 77 Barlow tomorrow. I'm a little nervous about it being a two blade, but I'm very excited to try it out. I rarely carry my 2 blade 77 Washington Jack Because it just seems so bulky. Maybe the more rounded NF will feel better in hand and pocket.

Aging beautifully Harry, great Barlow my friend:cool::thumbup: Those #77 Barlows are such a great size.

Shawn, give us your thoughts on the two blade after some pocket carry. I have a two blade oiled bone but carry my singles far more. This from an ardent two blade carrier for years:o

Thank you Paul !! Much appreciated my friend !! So far , the 77 Barlow is my favorite Barlow to carry and this one has become my almost EDC with another pattern.

Harry

Harry, I agree with Paul, your Barlow is aging wonderfully. Also, I appreciate when it looks like a knife has been used a lot but, when you look at the sharpening choil and the edge, doesn't look like it's been obsessively over-sharpened (something I can be guilty of). I'm trying to break that habit and avoid touching up an edge just because I used it for a few things and it's not fresh-off-the-stone sharp, but it's tough sometimes.

Would it be sacrilegious to ask for a TC Barlow in the 77 frame?

Can't or wouldn't ever be done. Mike owns the barlow bolster and NF tooling for the 77 frame hence a Northfield barlow and Charlie owns the TC bolster and tooling for the 15 frame hence the TC Tom's Choice. Separate brainchilds~

I did not know that. Thanks for the education.

Anytime arizcowboy, I'm definitely excited for Mike's next barlow to come forth though. All things considered with the revised blade shape..this will basically be a perfectly scaled up version of a 15 Long pull Clip barlow with the scaled up blade / added benefit of that aesthetically pleasing/ fancy matchstrike pull.

That is a well-loved knife, Old Engineer--well done sir! Looking forward to my green saw cut bone from the next run. I hope to love it just as much.

This is what I was hoping for with these. Looking forward to them!

Yes it is and thank you very much Aias !!! I am sure that you are going to like it a lot .

Harry

Thanks--I think so too... it checks a lot of boxes for me: Clip point, match strike long pull, pinch-able, barlow pattern... and just big enough to handle many tasks while still being very pocket friendly. I am truly excited about this release.

I've been a knife guy for a years, but have just recently been bitten by the Barlow Bug!

After looking at tons of models, the one I want as my FIRST of this kind is a #77 Single Blade in Red Sawcut Bone like the one Half/Stop has pictured here below...

My question is, aside from watching the classic exchange, is there any way to get one of these?

I heard mention of a waiting list for a possible run of these, and I just subscribed to the CK site for their newsletter and info.

Any help would be much appreciated!

You could put up a want to buy post in that area of the exchange and you can add a line to your signature saying you are looking to buy one. Those will help get people to let you know they have one for sale. You could also setup a search on eBay to be notified when one come up for sale there also.

Unfortunately the next run of 77 clip point Barlows is already sold out (pre sold). There will certainly be models popping up on the exchange here though after they land. Keep an eye out and you'll have a good chance of snagging one. No red saw cut this time around however.

Done and Done. Thanks!

Thanks for the info sir. Will do!

This has been my go to knife since getting it almost a year ago. I've been through periods where it didnt see use for weeks at a time, but inevitably the flavor of the week knife got old and this one hopped back into my pocket. I chose the smooth ivory bone covers specifically because I love the way they age, and all that consistent carrying and fondling is starting to pay off. The bone has turned a nice mellow color. The original polish on the bone has been replaced with a nice dull look filled with scuffs, scratches, and over all character. The pile side bone has been cracked(which thankfully seemed to stabilize). This knife has been on top of mountains, in creeks and river, and has seen countless miles on trails. It has put in a ton of hours on the job site as a go to tool. It is hard to believe that I could be so attached to a silly little object like a knife.
This knife has went from being just another sweet new knife to being a permanent piece in my collection.

You done good Mike!
