GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

I got a #77 Barlow in autumn gold bone today.Everything is perfect, especially the gold bone, really nice.
However,I found it a bit tight to open the spear blade, will it be easier to do after long time using?

Rambler , they will loosen up a little with use but not a lot . I really like the pull on the 77 Barlows as most have excellent walk and talk.

I also have a #85 EO Bullet End Jack in my hand so I make a comparison and find out that #77 Barlow have a tighter walk and talk.
What's more, the distinction is enlarged as my#85 is an EO pattern and it's more convenient for me.Anyway,I still love my barlow:-)

Pulled open my traditionals drawer today and thought about how lucky I am to have these wonderful #77 barlows! It made me think of this thread. Hope we'll see another run of these beauties in 2017. Can't help but hope for some understated, but unique, bone; like...white sawcut or white jigged bone. Or perhaps just a hint of cream...like an ivory-color bone in sawcut or jigging. I know we're all waiting on the eurobarlow, but I keep thinking about the next #77, too. :D

Looking forward to the upcoming run too. I wish he would run some mammoth or giraffe. I'm sure there's all sorts of considerations I'm not aware of when making the decisions regarding covers. From an uninformed customer perspective it seems odd to me when KSF runs mammoth on all the Northwoods runs and nobody else does. Either way, Mike's choices are usually great and hopefully we see a 77 barlow this year.

Cmon Mike, any new details on the next run?
I'm sure you've got your hands full with the euro barlow, but let's not forget about your greatest SFO!:D

I was musing earlier today about various traditional scale materials and was thinking that perhaps micarta or acrylic could be "sawcut" like the old sawcut Delrin handles. Also loved the bone linen micarta from last year.

Pairing a matchstriker clip with a pen or coping secondary would be a total winner this year!

I would be happy with Reclamed Broomhandle just as long as I finally get a chance to get one! :p:D
I would also love to see a 2 blade by year's end but I am wondering if GEC is all "Barlowed Out" for the year. I hope not. I do not own a 77 barlow.

This is 100% speculation on my part, but I would be pretty surprised if we don't get a run of 77s for CK.

Of course, I still think there is a run of 14 clip points coming too, and I a wrong frequently, haha.

I wanted to add one more thought to this thread. I, for one, would be very interested in a SS version of the Yankee Barlow. In my opinion, the best Barlow to date from GEC was the spear + coping #77. I'm wondering if there was enough interest, perhaps we could see a repeat of the spears in SS? Alternatively, it could be a clip + coping in SS. Anyway, just a thought. My 77 spear + coping is probably my most carried traditional, so this thread (and the next run of Yankee Barlows) is always on my mind.

I would agree with the sentiment MCar MCar , the spear/coping 77 is pretty amazing. I do love a clip blade but generally prefer them as a single blade. However Mike and GEC could probably dream up a great clip/coping 77 combo. I would certainly be in for one even if they kept it 1095 steel.
