GEC #77 Medium Barlow Impressions

Someone EO a clip...I'd like to see it. The clip needs it the most. I can open my SFs easy but that dang clip is a nailbreaker. if I can't find a single blade 25 soon I'm taking the dremel to the dang thing!

I think if you try to EO a Clip 77, a section of blade edge near the tip will become exposed. Because of the position of the upper handle pin the EO notch cannot be moved closer to the bolster end.

As Knife Knuts go, there are a lot of things we don't need, but we do them anyways. :D
Sure I didn't need an EO Sheepsfoot, but it just feels right to me. I think that's what's great about many traditional knives. The fact that we can customize them to our liking and still have a very appealing knife. I liken traditionals to Harley Davidsons, there are no two alike.

Bob, I agree with you. I really enjoy seeing the modifications people come up with, even though the mods aren't necessary. The EO notches that Lemmy, Paul, and you added to your 77 Barlows are absolutely fantastic, IMHO.;)

A sheepsfoot #77 in stag is a thing of beauty. Too bad I just now branched out past the axes sub forum and missed the preorder 😭

Just check in here once in a while and keep your ear to the ground: there's always new knives being released. I've missed quite a few, but I've also been fortunate enough to get onboard a couple SFOs.

Don't get me wrong, the EO looks good and is a classic feature. Now i would think about one on a spear point for example as it's not usually pinchable. For the sheepfoot it's easily pinched.

On a beautiful day... It's been in my pocket for a week now, since the day it arrived.

So I bit the bullet again and decided to darken my yellow scales as well. I ended up with more a muted brown than Paul's cherry flavor, but I'm satisfied with it as is. I like stuff that looks old. Now I just need to figure out how to patina the bolsters, I'll be set. Might brush them, I remember someone doing that on the last round of 2 blade 77s and it looked pretty killer. I also filed the kick a little more. I'm happy where the blade sits now. I'll probably do another coat with some more cherry-wood color to see if I can even it out. I think I've been too timid in letting it sit.

Sean,

Looks good. Of course the bolsters won't patina, but they'll quickly take on a natural scuffed look in your pocket. If you throw in some change or keys with it then it'll happen real quick.

That's why I don't normally use a pocket slip. A few weeks in the pocket with keys, flashlight, coins, etc..., and the bolsters go from "scratched up" to "nicely patinaed."

I just let my knives age naturally. After a few months it'll happen very nicely. Just carry it and use it for everything you do! :)

My three Sheepsfoot 77's finally arrived today! I only took a few quick pictures of my old red version with the brass liners and pins so far though and it's raining here so they are not good pictures at that. :)
