GEC #86 2021: Angus Jack, 2AB, Spring Street Barlow (BF Knife)

Are you implying that I do not have one such job? Because I do. Also if you read my post I stated there are many categories of people. Once again with a little effort, want to, and smarts it is doable.

There are other variables that you perhaps do not consider. My employer takes a dim view on cell phone use at work. That makes it hard to jump on things the instant a notification comes out. And in this game, if you aren't on it in the first minute, it seems that you are just out of luck.

I will see your dim view and raise you class 1 division 1 shop floor. All of our phones stay in lockers or offices. We have areas you can't even wear a watch. Yes, I work in a bomb.

The one armed blade nut had an obstacle. Through effort and learning he taught himself how to open a slip joint with his feet. You cannot use your phone at work, with some effort, want to, and learning you can overcome this obstacle too. I know that I have.

It's good to see you, Alan. Either you've gotten far quieter or we aren't crossing paths as much these days. I am very pleased with the Stag on this 86 - it's mellowed some since I've carried it a wee bit but it has amazing texture which is something I value a lot in Stag.
Probably a little of both Dylan. I have been a less active. I guess married life does take up more of my time which means less of an opportunity to spend time with friends. The ebony is more formal looking but the stag is still my personal favorite.

I would very much like to know what solution you've arrived at. My phone is not allowed at work at all. It stays outside the fence. And I cannot use personal email at work. Seriously, how do you get announcements?

The information you seek is written within the pages of these forums. Go and read them, see the pictures of the beautiful knives, learn the history, and most importantly gain information from the membership of this great community. Don't just follow them read all of them about Great Eastern Cutlery and the knives you like. That's how I learned, it is a fun journey.

Truly a master of Fight Club.

The Red and Black Micarta 86 arrived today..... I think the design was well thought out with no off-putting features...... The production group did a great job bringing the design to fruition....

I like the downward rake of the cutting edge relative to the handle axis..... It feels light and nimble in the hand...... Oh, and with a pinch able blade......

What kind of pull weight did they put on that 2AB spring?

Thank you, Harry. I think you are right, the 2019 BF knife really is a superb work horse - it's hard to beat such a sturdy blade for chorin' around the homestead. I do prefer a Lambsfoot to a Sheepfoot blade though, I find them to be far more nimble. That all said, I am looking forward to getting my Angus Jack in, I'd like to compare to the 2019 knife and see which one I'll end up favoring.

It is always a pleasure to see the context your fine collection imparts to some GEC runs, Augie. It demonstrates how superb GEC's execution can be.

Thank you Dylan, I love showing vintage knives with GEC's when the share the same characteristics. I talked with Bill a couple times at the Rendezvous about Jumbo Jacks and was pretty happy when they came out with the 86, quite a nice example of one.

Snagged a red and black linen barlow, not a huge micarta fan and really looking for the bone. Let's see if it can change my mind when it arrives.

Im really excited about this micarta barlow! Micarta is definitely one of my favorite materials, can’t wait to have it on a gec. Gonna be a user with that 440c too! Super stoked!

missed that one too, mustve been way too late to even try when i saw the email. itll be nice to land some new GEC stainless, only one example stayed so far, the elk 15
