Glennbad's 20th BF anniversary (a year late!) GAW **Winners Announced**

Not in (looks like I need to update my membership anyway) just wanted to say congrats and it’s a very generous give away. I wandered across BF looking for a Griptilian i think. My first traditional post was a question about the bail on this knife. Still got it, and took a while but I found my M4 mini grip.

Thanks Glenn for a generous GAW featuring your work - I’m in for the probable Kutmaster EO - my Granddad taught me to skin ROMEX cable with one of those in the mid 1960’s (except it had Delrin handles). I was participating on another great knife forum with a focus on the Buck Knives when a member here invited me to the Buck Knife sub-forum here at Blade Forums, telling me it was very active, which I found it to be (and very welcoming too). I have been here ever since, close to 14 years and spend my much of my time in the Traditional sub-forum, time in the Buck sub-forum, and a little posting in the Multi-Tool sub-forum. Certainly enjoy the knife talk here. OH

You qualify by having at least 100 posts...

This is great Glenn! The knives are wonderful.

I got into BF after a long search for a modern folder landed me zooming through instagram seeing that there were folks who regularly paired their modern folder with a traditional. I really liked the look of the GEC knives I kept seeing, so a search landed me here. This was in January of 2020 and GEC had just released the 86 and I was drooling.

I started a thread asking if the GEC was the next beanie baby craze and if I needed to steer clear of the collecting scene. I also made a comment about it being a new decade and that started a heated debate as to whether a decade starts at zero or one (2020 or 2021). That was my first of many introductions to our penchant for getting wound up about the smallest things 😂. Both waynorth waynorth and @halfstop were active in that discussion. Ron spent lots of time via DM answering my newbie questions. What a tremendous guy he was.

I fell down the rabbit hole (Chris 321Bandaid 321Bandaid …how dare you blame me for your knife issues! 😂😂😂)!

Since, I have developed amazing relationships via BF. I don’t rabidly collect anymore, but I do carry the knives I have that have all become very special to me. Each knife has a story and is a keeper for a reason. It’s fun to have spent the last several years honing in on how I like to collect and meeting some great guys.

I’ll toss my name in the hat for the Jeff Mitchell. It’s a stunner!

Here’s a recover Glenn did for me that is a treasure. It was the first GEC I ever owned…a gift from my Father in law. I never carried it much with the elderberry covers, but with these Cullpepper scales, it keeps the vibe of the original gift, but takes it up a notch.

Thanks again Glenn!IMG_0643.jpeg

Thanks for your generosity! I first came to bladeforums while researching blades to use in the woods for hunting and camping, and stayed for the wealth of information and community here. I especially have enjoyed and valued the CPK subforum. I'd like to be considered for the Schrade Walden 196 please. Thanks again!

I admire your work, and have reread one of your tutorials. Hopefully I can find time to try my hand at a blade drop/rescale.

I came to blade forum to research modern folders, but gravitated to traditionals and the porch.

I would be in for any, but the Schade regrind looks marvelous.

Congrats on 21 years Glenn. A very generous GAW. Well respected for sure.
I have been a member for 17 years. I came here as a "modern" folder guy, but for the last ten or more years I got my head straight & have been strictly Traditional. Lots of great folks here with a wealth of knowledge. @GuestWho101 was a great asset in the beginning; teaching me the ropes in the traditional arena. Very generous too, as are many people here.
I would like to nominate my spot to Sacto Sacto for the Franken-Lifter. A fellow enthusiast of the great Central Valley.
Not sure how I missed this when you posted it. Thanks for the nomination, Tim. Very nice of you. I don’t think I’ve ever been called an enthusiast of the Central Valley but it’s accurate 😁

I’m in, thanks for the generosity. Congratulations on 21 years here.

My first post here was to resurrect an older thread that was saying how Buck 110 locks never fail. I wanted to warn everyone that I had one that had worn out.

In response to my posts I learned about Bucks replacement blade service. Also had people legitimately concerned that I have the knife fixed so nobody got hurt.

The warm welcome and sincerity is what kept me here. This place is full of great people.

Tough to pick one, but I decided on the Jeff Mitchell with the finger nail bending pull.

Thanks again

Please read everything first, you cannot just say "I'm in"...

Through total fault of my own, I missed my 20th anniversary at BF last year. To rectify that, I will have the GAW I should have had last year. Why host a GAW? Well, one, I like to do them. 2nd, it's a way to give back to the forum that has given me a place to go, hang out, blow off a little steam, and talk blades with like-minded porch denizens.

I originally came to BF to research Schrade knives. I spent a lot of time in the Schrade sub-forum back then. I've since shifted my focus to "The Porch", as my appreciation and collecting goes beyond just Schrade knives now. Through the last 20 years you members have been entertaining, helpful, encouraging, a good listening ear when I was having a tough time, and a good sounding board for modding ideas and such. So thanks to all of you and to Spark for giving us a place to play!

Okay, enough of that wordy nonsense....the GAW. I have around 5 knives to give away. They are not new. Like any survivor, they may have dings. scratches, and years of honest use on them. If you win one of them, I would prefer that you not re-sell it. You are more than welcome to give it away. That's the generosity we like here on the Porch.

To qualify for the GAW, you need to be basic paying member or higher, or simply have at least 100 meaningful forum posts (contributing to the discussion of knives, not just "cool knife bro"). Select one knife you would like your name to be put into for drawing. You can use your slot to nominate someone else, but you have to choose a knife for them.

This is a participation GAW. you can share pics or stories, but I do want you to tell us what brought you to Blade Forums, and why you stayed

Now, on to the knives! Sorry, no forum knives, you guys cleaned me out last time!

This first one is one I recently shared in the Guardians thread. It's one of the new TEW lambfoot knives. Shadow pattern with houndstooth shield. The micarta is something that Evan Nicolaides @esnyx gave me years back. I believe it's some that he made when he was just getting going, now look at him!

This next one is a face only a mother could love. I call it the Franken-lifter. Made with parts from a couple different knives, it's a utility-driven knife for sure. I gave it some stag pants, but hey, even they aren't that good looking. I even cut a fancy swedge in the blade, LOL. However, the knife is built to work, and help you play after work!

This next one started life as an EO utility knife. I think it was a Kutmaster, but the blade stamp was ground off as a second. Still, there was nothing wrong with it in my eyes. I dressed it up with some of my stag. It's a smaller one, around 3 1/4" closed. It's pinchable and not stiff on the fingers opening and closing.

The next knife is a Schrade Walden 196 pattern. I think it was a florist-type knife, with a slight hawkbill blade, that I ended up grinding flat to make more of a sheepsfoot blade. It has hunter green jig bone and a cool arrowhead shield. The blade has a nice patina already going. I think it would make a nice gardening knife or whatever kind of knife.

The last knife is a custom custom. It's a Jeff Mitchell custom, I think it's one of his earlier knives. The original knife had some Koa (I think) that ended up cracking. I put some nice stag on it. I also re-ground the blade a little thinner. It's smaller at 3 1/2" closed, but a nice size and capable knife. It's not pinchable. and the pull is a little stiffer, so maybe not ideal for softer fingernails.

Okay, that's it for now...maybe I'll add something else, who knows???

Good luck!
Just a note,to say congrats on your years being here. I also must say, I am highly impressed with your craftsmanship...I am an owner of several recovers.

You are very generous with your gaw ,as well as, knowledge shared on the forum. 👍🏻

I will stand on the sidelines, applaud your kindness and the winners.

Congrats on 21 years! I'm getting close to that milestone. I was interested in knives as a kid since my grandpa gave me my first (a small Buck folder) and used some in Boy Scouts. I later joined BF to learn what I could about the world of knives.

Thanks for the chance! My choice would be the Mitchell custom custom.
