Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I was pleased to find this iconic German saw-set some years ago :)

rrzd700.jpg
The hammer on the right is a Sheffield cutler's hammer, the others were made for his own use by someone I mentioned recently, who was a Tackler in one of the old Yorkshire woolen mills :)

I love that saw-set, never have seen one before. You won't find embellishment like that on tools today! Great photos, Jack.
How about a new tool and a newish tool roll?

I originally did not plan to try for one of these, but then realized I'd be kicking myself if I passed up an opportunity to have one from the first run of American Lambsfoot knives. It arrived today and I'm very pleased.

A big congratulations to Charlie and everyone else who had a hand in the project. It turned out marvelously. And thanks Barry for shepherding it to my little flock.
Well done Greg, nicely photographed! I also think you'd have been tremendously disappointed not get one.
Your state nannies were trying to stamp out smoking in your own car a while back, as I recall. In case you might have children, I think it was.

Jer, the contents and composition of that picture make it one of the most interesting photos I think I have seen. Love the truck! Oh, and the knife!
Congrats on the new stag Barlow from the Hartshead collection, Preston!:cool::thumbsup: I hope your computer is truly back to normal. :)
Thanks, Gary, me too!
Nearly 9.30pm here, and I am only just getting time for a beer
Well, that is the one to have if your going to be posting in this Guardians thread:thumbsup::D:thumbsup:
Nothing like jumping in with both feet.:D

I also have a friend visiting the UK that is going to pick up a rosewood handle for me while he is there.

Consider yourself enabled!!!
Holy smokes....the year of the Lambsfoot!!! Wow!!!! Worth the wait!!! Great action and fit and finish on both these knives! The Jigged bone went straight into my pocket. @waynorth these are phenomenal and surpassed all my expectations. Thanks Jack Black Jack Black for introducing me to this fantastic blade style. My appreciation is endless!!!

Great you got both, Taylor, congrats and enjoy!
Wonderful photo, love the lines/texture!
I think that's an apt designation, Taylor! 2019 is not yet half way complete and it has already brought with it the 2019 Guardians Edition, the Hartshead Barlow, and the Waynorth Cutlery Lambsfoot debut. And, just as important, we have seen, to my recollection, an unprecedented number of folks who are newly discovering the pattern and its charms. It's really exciting, isn't it? I can hardly wait to see what the rest of the year brings. Even with, to my knowledge, no new releases slated, it promises to be a fantastic back half of the year for the Lambsfoot. I can hardly wait to see what we are saying about 2019 come December as we start to reflect at the close of the year.

And, congratulations on on that pair of new arrivals. You've got quite a splendid collection going!
Good post, well said...

I'm a novice in this thread yet I visit on a regular basis:thumbsup: I have a LOOOOONG story in regards to my ebony Lambfoot and the Horn that Jack gifted me is such a sentimental knife so see's little pocket time, even then it seem that it's a bit camera shy. But this one, well now, this is a totally different story and one that will be told often;):p

Thank you Duncan for such a WONDERFUL gift and another one to be posted in the very near future that I was gifted by our LEGENDARY Kiwi:thumbsup:

Now, while on the topic of LEGENDARY, Mr Jack Black, this my friend is truly LEGENDARY and that is spoken with a sincere Heart:thumbsup: The accolades (and I've read most if not all) are so deserving. Walk proud Jack because your history and legacy are more than secure. This is exquisite, SOLID, yet refined and as I mentioned in an earlier pm, a portal to cutlery as it was once made long ago by truly skilled cutlers:thumbsup:

Thank you Duncan, Thank you Jack as now I can finally honor the Gaurdian moniker in my Sig line and participate in this terrific thread:thumbsup:

Totally Gobsmacked:):):)

How about a new tool and a newish tool roll?
Beautiful addition and a wise decision. :D

And, there is another incredible photo of that Hartshead of yours!
Thank you Greg.

Well dang, I am sorry but that's all I have. I'm really pretty well tech challenged myself. :( Don't give up! :)

Happy (???) Anniversary, Dwight. Are you better than ever now, or still working on rehab? My Dad, my wife's dad, one of my younger brothers have all had at least one rotator cuff surgery; they're all pretty tough guys that don't complain much, but all of them found the rehab quiet grueling!
I'm doing my own rehab three days a week on weights GT. Pretty sure things won't be like they were for at least a year. But it's all good and thank you for asking my friend.

As for naming the knife, it pretty much named itself. Lambsfoot Barlow practically begs to be named "LamBar Jack" (maybe LBJ for short ;))
:D Great name!

All I can say is . . . let the jealousy begin! (for RALF, I'm afraid) My Waynorth REAL AMERICAN LAMB FOOT KNIFE came today and is Glorious!
Beautiful Jeff! No-one can replace RALF.

"Brandoch Daha,
Very cool.

Nothing like jumping in with both feet.:D

I also have a friend visiting the UK that is going to pick up a rosewood handle for me while he is there.

RALF may pout for a while, but he will still get carried and used every day. He's going to be my lounging knife, carried whenever I've dressed down to relax at home. When I go out for the day, the new Waynorth will fall into my regular rotation and get carried several days each month.

For those of you familiar with E.R. Eddison's fantasy masterpiece "The Worm Ouroboros," I've named my new Waynorth Lambfoot, "Brandoch Daha," after one of the characters. He is slender, oh so stylish, and yet the mightiest swordsman in all the lands. That description well fits the Waynorth Lambfoot.

^ E.R. Eddison's fantasy masterpiece "The Worm Ouroboros - That's one I haven't heard of but am intrigued with just the little info provided. Needs some investigation.

AND - I do agree with your assessment black mamba black mamba - "My Waynorth REAL AMERICAN LAMB FOOT KNIFE came today and is Glorious!" - EXACTLY!!! :)

Now, although we’ve had the pleasure of Cudgee’s company for a little while now on the Porch, I thought I’d do the honours to officially bring him into the Guardians with a picture of his Lambsfoot knife:

It’s a Joseph Rodgers Barlow Lambsfoot alongside my Ol’ Reliable Ebony.

Here’s a toast to Jack - Cheers my friend, you’ve outdone yourself again!

Thanks for the post, Chin; as always, the content was fascinating!:cool::thumbsup: Thanks for helping @cudgee with the photo of lambsfoot ;):thumbsup:, and welcome, cudgee, to the Guardians! :):thumbsup:
Chin, congrats on your Hartshead Barlow with its grandly gnarly stag!:cool::cool:

...
Oh, wow! What a treasure. I wouldn't dare carry it either.

I'm not an EMT, so please don't take this as being authoritative, but I carry alcohol prep pads, bandaids, a couple of butterfly strips, a couple of gauze pads, and a roll of cloth tape.

I'm glad you had that towel handy. I've also found out the hard way that the resistance from the wood has a nasty habit of suddenly disappearing. I almost always wear a glove on my holding hand and tape the thumb of my knife hand now.
...
Thanks for the heirloom watch comment and the first aid suggestions, Greg. :)

Thanks GT, Lam Jack is looking good :)
...
Glad it made it Gary :)

Running on empty!
Lam Jack thanks you, Jack, and I thank you for all your Hartshead efforts! :)
In the early 1980s, I accompanied the Purdue Women's softball team on their spring break trip to play games in Florida; a friend was their coach, and asked me to come along to assist. We drove vans on the long trip, and the van I rode in played the same set of 4 cassettes over and over and over. I heard Jackson Brown's "Running on Empty" album MANY times (Willie Nelson's "Stardust" was another album on the playlist).

Congratulations Gary! :)
...
All of my Wright’s knives that I’ve had for a while exhibit the same discoloring regardless of handle material! :)
...
Thanks, Ron. :)
You know I'm a big fan of Rough Riders, but I'll admit that RR nickel silver bolsters discolor faster than those of other knives, such as Case.

On June 2nd I ordered a Wright lambsfoot from a dealer in Sheffield. ...
I found this in the mail today. It will keep my Heartshead Barlow company.

:thumbsup::D It would be interesting to see just how massive a monster you created, Greg, with your "I carry a lambsfoot" tagline.:thumbsup::cool:

It is truly amazing how fast this thread grows...having such fine offerings, Jack's HH Barlow and Charlie's USA Lambsfoot, does speed things up. Remember Gary, it's the thought that counts!

Thanks for the Barlow remark, Vince. :)
Guys, vegetables and fruits are for EDC (every day consumption), but meat is only needed now and then. ;) Would it make you happy to know that I ate a bowl of raw turkey gizzards just before taking the photo, and the vegetable plate was really just dessert??

Beautiful rosewood GT! Now you better hit the hay. :)

Colourful pic of your Lam Jack GT, hope you can find space in your busy rotation schedule for your Hartshead Barlow ;)
...
Thanks, Jack. :) I'm sure I'll have no difficulty fitting the new LamBar Jack in between Lam Jack and Man Jack in my Lambsfoot of the Week category.:cool:

At first I thought you were referring to the Scottish fellows!
Vince you made me laugh loud enough to wake both the sleeping dogs in my house! :p:thumbsup::D

I really enjoy the pictures of the Lambsfoot knives taken along with other hand tools.
At the heart of it all, isn't that what our knives really are? Tools? So, let's see them tools...

Good suggestion, John.:cool::thumbsup: Don't you Flitz your files and chisels?? ;)

Another photo of my stag Barlow.:)

Thank you, Jack, as I unwrapped my HartsHead Barlow I thought about all the time and effort you put on just this one issue. The thought that you put into it, gathering the materials, wrapping each individual piece, the mailing and the accounting/bookkeeping. You honor each and everyone of us. My heartsfelt thanks, my friend.

Very eloquently put, Preston; thanks for speaking for so many of us!:cool::cool:

...For such a small island, there are huge regional differences in language here, just about every town has its own name for things, but actually 'pop' is fairly universal here I think, unusually so
Thanks for the info, Jack; it surprised me!:thumbsup::)

Thank you very much GT . I have a friend who is much more knowledgeable than I am , and who is known of by many on these forums , who has told me that the old one was very probably made prior to 1910 . So the age difference is very probably 108 + years .

I've been doing an abysmal job of keeping up on this thread this week. Too much to do and too little time!!

I missed out on the rosewood's but Jack was gracious enough to give me 2 stags. I don't know what's wrong with me.... I like to have a back up of my favorite knives. It's going to be hard to beat these for knife of the year! Thank you Jack! You really outdid yourself with these! I can't imagine how much time and energy you spent on these, but they really are stellar!

I had plenty of commute time so lots and lots of CFing......

I'll try my best to catch up this weekend, but the weekend's jam packed also. Hope you all had a great week Guardians!

Earlier today I mentioned that I thought we'd seen an unprecedented level of new interest in the Lambsfoot pattern, or, at least, this thread. I thought I'd see if I could back that up with data. Here's what I found about the number of members contributing to this thread, looking at all posts up through page 1232:

2016: 62 different members posted
2017: 103 different members posted; of these, 66 had never posted here before
2018: 126 different members posted; of these, 65 had never posted here before
2019 (YTD): 151 different members posted; of these 73 had never posted here before

So, just shy of half way through 2019, we already have 20% more members posting and 12% more first-time posters than in all of 2018.

Not too shabby, folks. Keep spreading the word. :)
