Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I have never seen another piece of Rosewood like it Dwight :) Thank you, that's a beautiful pic, very photogenic knife :)

That's kind Preston :)

Sounds like a hard day my friend, I also fell asleep early last night, and thought just the same as you today! :D Rosie is looking good my friend :)

Thank you Christian :)

Good choice Greg ;)
It was, but I sure enjoyed myself and Dutch had a good day...got complements for the work he did. That always makes it a good one.

Good Morning Guardians!
I have been having some trouble with this computer for a couple of months and the last several days have been challenging and I think I am going to do a Windows 10 reset. If I understand that correctly it will remove what is on the C: drive and reinstall Windows 10 and then I will have to have it look for multiple updates and multiple restarts. I don't know if this process takes an hour or a day or more? I have been following along when I am allowed to and there are multiple websites it just will not log into, also I get notified I do not have the latest security updates, yet it does not find any when I check for updates.

I have been enjoying the great photographs and wonderful stories that you all have been posting. I have taken some photographs of the only lambsfoot in my meager collection and I am unable to get a close-up that is readable of the tang stamp from A. Wright and Son.
I used to wonder why the weather service always warned "old people" to stay inside when the temperatures and humidity get high. The last couple of days I have found out first hand now that I, too, am an "old people". The warning extends through today here and then the mower will get a workout, too.

I will do a complete virus scan, followed by a data backup to a USB Flash Drive, If anyone has anything regarding the Windows 10 reset that maybe helpful I will appreciate your input before I do the deed. Wish me luck.
HC, I'm not going to be any help to you regarding computer problems and their solutions. Mine with the mouse and USB ports. I don't know what the techs did to resolve them, I'm just glad to have it back and working. I know how frustrating it is! Sorry, I'll just offer my understanding and hopes you can get it resolved!
:D

I've long passed having every knife I truly need, so I feel fortunate to be able to try for a few of those I just want. I'm trying to rein that in, but the two folders I've purchased this year were both lambsfoot knives. I guess that hints at where my true wants lie. :)

ETA: Oops, forgot about an inconsequential eBay purchase. Of the two new folders, that is...
I understand, Greg, myself and others have also long past needing any knife, so don't feel alone in that respect. When they come 'hot and heavy' like this years lambsfoot offerings it's hard to contain the spending.
I wish you the best of Luck, HC. Must be very frustrating. Hopefully things will digitally turn for the better.

Jack Black Jack Black You’ve been ultra busy with it bringing us all much pleasure. Where do you draw your energy from? Most impressive.

When I see the Yorkshire Rose flag, I’m thinking that would also make a great beautiful look to a T or a Cap. The TV B&W image of the field worker with the Lambsfoot is brilliant.

pjsjr pjsjr Love that light on your Lambsfoot, Preston.

@Foddering a smashing B&W image of your Lamb Dwight.

Thanks Dwight, that is truly weird...broomstick...sure it's not called boomstick?...just teasing!
What a nice morning I had. :)
I went fishing at my local river, my wife and son came with me. They sat and read by the river while I fished. We then took a little walk along the river and stopped on the way home for a good breakfast. The fish didn't cooperate with the plans but it didn't spoil the day. Lovely way to spend a morning. I had my Hartshead Barlow in tow...

The River, it was beautiful and quiet...

My Hartshead enjoying some sunshine along the river...

And a real good breakfast at a cozy little mountain restaurant...

Thanks, PJ. The fishing was fun but not productive.
I would not have used the HHB as I only "Catch and Release" to ensure the fisheries will be there for generations.
Great photos, John, that's why it's called fishing and not catching, right? I mostly catch and release too. I do like to fry a few freshly caught brookies and have them for a meal.
As you might already know I too am a fan of turntables and Lambsfoot knives. :D
Cool shoot.
Thanks, Kevin, yes, I know that from some of your other posts about LPs. My first real turntable was an AR, bought through the Army Exchange, 1971, I still have and play it, along with others. That there is a stunning photo of your rosewood HHB!

Thanks Jack! :) I’d be honored my friend! :D

Hope all you Guardians around the world have a peaceful and blessed Sunday! :D I’ve got my new Jigged Bone Waynorth Cutlery pocketed this morning! :D

Good Morning Guardians.
I'm headed out to do a little fishing.
Here's a quick sunrise picture for y'all.
Nice pic of your Hartshead

Thank you Jack.
HaHaHa! It really does look like horn. The mark side is very normal grained rosewood but the pile side is pretty amazing.
The box is quite a find Jack! The cutlery ain't bad either. :)

FANTASTIC B&W pic, "Ansel would be proud"

The dog training yesterday was long, hot and hard. I had planned to take some photos of Rosie and the training grounds but didn't have a chance. When I got home I was tried, fed Dutch and myself, had a shower and fell asleep watching some thing on the tube. Trying to catch up on this thread and some work around the house. The stuff around the house will be there...not so, this thread!

I'm doing my own rehab three days a week on weights GT. Pretty sure things won't be like they were for at least a year. But it's all good and thank you for asking my friend.

:D Great name!

Sounds like that shoulder rehab is a long haul, Dwight; I admire your dedication to keeping the schedule!:thumbsup:
Thanks for the support on LamBar Jack's name (although I wonder if it should be a single word as "lumberjack" is ;)).

Gary, BD works fine. After all, RALF is an acronym, too.
BD used to be a favorite character of mine in the Doonesbury comic strip, so that makes it easy for me to remember. :)

Thank you very much GT . I have a friend who is much more knowledgeable than I am , and who is known of by many on these forums , who has told me that the old one was very probably made prior to 1910 . So the age difference is very probably 108 + years .

Harry
Such visual similarity between knives made over a century apart! Notable pair, Harry!:cool::thumbsup:

Double your pleasure, double your fun, Steve, with that dynamic stag pair!:cool::thumbsup:

Earlier today I mentioned that I thought we'd seen an unprecedented level of new interest in the Lambsfoot pattern, or, at least, this thread. I thought I'd see if I could back that up with data. Here's what I found about the number of members contributing to this thread, looking at all posts up through page 1232:

2016: 62 different members posted
2017: 103 different members posted; of these, 66 had never posted here before
2018: 126 different members posted; of these, 65 had never posted here before
2019 (YTD): 151 different members posted; of these 73 had never posted here before

So, just shy of half way through 2019, we already have 20% more members posting and 12% more first-time posters than in all of 2018.

Not too shabby, folks. Keep spreading the word. :)
Thanks for the data, Greg.:cool::cool: I'm at least as interested in your methodology as your results. Did you actually work your way tediously through the thread compiling lists of who posted when, or does the forum software have features that can be used to compile that sort of usage info??

Some days it's just not possible to keep up with "quote and reply".
But on a lazy Saturday morning, it seemed worth the effort. Of course all bets are off going forward. :D
I think I'm with you, John. In the early days of this thread, it was like a sleepy village and I could be the village busybody (or village idiot?) poking my nose into everyone's affairs, and I could do it well in just a couple of hours per week spread over maybe 2 or 3 visits to the thread each week. But as Greg's data indicate, the population of the thread has exploded, and it probably takes a couple of hours and several visits per day to keep on top of all the lambsfoot thread traffic. That's sounding like actual work, instead of an enjoyable way to relax occasionally! So I'll probably be dialing back my involvement here to some extent, and spending more time on whittling, sharpening, reading, crossword puzzles, Ken-Kens, ... :)

Hello Guardians. It’s late (for me). I spent the day with my oldest daughter(38) which included her getting her second tattoo and going to my favorite place in the world(Johnnie’s) for an Italian Beef/Sausage Combo fries, and an Italian Lemon Ice.

Regretfully with all the activity here, I was unable to give proper recognition to all. Just know that you all are the greatest reasons for being here. I will say thank you kindly to 5K Qs 5K Qs .

Fascinating post, Harvey!:thumbsup::cool: I try to be a good dad, but I don't think I could go with my daughter to a tattoo place and witness her experiencing the pain! Your photo of the sandwich place (along with the name of the town in the "Totin' Today" thread) got me looking at Google maps of Chicago's western suburbs and reminiscing. :) I met several guys from Chicago in my college dorm back in the early 1970s. Most of them were from places like Berwyn, Cicero, Elmhurst, Western Springs, etc.; after college, one lived in Oak Park right off the Eisenhower(?) and another was a cop in Hinsdale. All those places seem like they're fairly close to your town. So I visited Chicago and these guys' homes several times over the years. They'd often try to convince me of the superiority of the local fare, and I've had sandwiches much like the one you showed in several neighborhood joints - good eating!! They were big on Vienna beef hotdog stands to IIRC.

Regarding the "backwards" boilermaker: Order of consumption is crucial to having a tolerable experience.;) If you ever find yourself in a similar situation maybe this nursery rhyme will help guide you.
Liquor before beer, you're in the clear.
Beer before liquor, you've never been sicker.
Thanks, Mark. :) I learned a lot of nursery rhymes when I was a kid, but I don't recall learning yours, which actually seems useful compared to most of the others!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Enjoyable post, Chin, and a superb photo of a knife to be reckoned with!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Thanks GT. Grandly gnarly indeed, my friend. One of the things I enjoy about each new edition of Jack’s Lambsfoots landing with their new owners is looking forward to your perceptive descriptions of the different examples.

I also appreciate the interesting analytical data you and Greg WhittlinAway WhittlinAway present on the Guardians thread.
...
Thanks, Chin, but I haven't ever matched my descriptions of everyone's horn Guardians Lambsfoots from 2017. :( That's understandable with the ebony knives because there are too few differences from one knife to the next (rosewood is also challenging in this regard), and, surprisingly, I find it hard to describe stag knives because there are too many differences among knives and I can't decide what to focus on. But I should have done better with the desert ironwood.

Hi Guardians,

Hope everyone is having a great weekend :) I've had a long, but enjoyable day. Travelled over to Huddersfield, and visited the market there, couple of interesting finds ;) Had a great second breakfast, then went out for a walk on the Yorkshire moors, before finishing off with a great pint in a small brewery tap :) Few pics from today, but it's mid evening here now, and I'm afraid I'm not going to get caught up tonight  Bear with me please, and I'll hopefully have a few hours to spend here tomorrow :)

I did not realize you were so tall. I'm kind of jealous. ;)
I always figured 6ft 3in would be the perfect height. You'd be tall, but not too tall to fit in doors and bathtubs and chairs and such.

Yeah, I was pretty much full grown by about 15, though I wasn't the tallest lad in the school (he was in the England Under-21 Basketball Squad!) I kind of forget I'm tall, but it's probably been more of an advantage than a disadvantage, I've not bumped my head too many times :D

I'm in the same boat, GT. If I'm honest with myself, I spent way too much time here last week trying to keep up. In order to prevent letting the pendulum swing back too far the other way and being absent for an extended time again, I'm going to have to find a way to strike a balance. That'll no doubt require a mighty dose of self-discipline to refrain from checking in too often and a bit of restraint to avoid trying to always keep up with commenting.

I like what others have said about "being liberal with the like button" and I'll try to at least do that. Even though my commenting is necessarily going to have to go down in order to keep this a sustainable enterprise, hopefully that's a way I can at least signify "I appreciate your post and the effort you put into it." We'll see how it goes.

And now for a little rosewood:

Reminds me...
I went to a local ice cream store, Baskin Robins (always finds out). A guy was cutting down the big cardboard tubs of ice cream. He was using a pair of scissors held open, using one of the blades to cut while the other blade was in his closed fist. I wanted to hand him my Lambsfoot but though better of it. I could just hear the uproar, "Knives are dangerous!".;):D

Yankees won, 17-13! If not, you missed a beaut. What a slug fest! They sure ain't usually like that!

Although I spent much time in the area, professionally, my home is in the North and North West Suburban area. Vienna Beef is the King in these parts. If you have been to several of the hot dog joints, I hope you went at least once to Gene&Jude’s. They even have their own Wikipedia page. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gene_&_Jude's fresh cut fries smothering the sandwich. Been around since 1946.
