Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I’m making up some surf fishing rigs for the upcoming fall run. My garage/shop lambfoot is earning its keep tonight! Hoping that hurricane decides to miss us in North Florida!

Wishing you tight lines and gentle winds Jon

Yesterday afternoon I gave my lambsfoot a spa treatment after our camping vacation by the sea.
During our trip it helped me eat a lot of freshly caught haddock and mackerel :) as well as the usual camping duties.
I cleaned it and flushed and oiled the joints, removed the heavy patina with flitz and sharpened it.
The sharpening part took me while ( it needed re profiling). It was as if I had completely forgotten how to sharpen a knife, the proper angles and muscle memory lost. I was getting frustrated and then it came time to go to a scheduled doctor's appointment.
While waiting for the doc I reread tips about sharpening and watched videos.
After I came home I tried again and was able with seemingly little effort re profile the bevel, find the burr, and get it to shaving sharp :).
I am still a beginner "sharpener" but oh, what a sense of accomplishment I had went I went to bed.
It may not be perfect but it very easily shaved half of my legs LOL :D ( and no ... I am not posting pics of my shaved legs LOL  )

Nice work Dan, we all have sharpening sessions like that, sometimes you just need to step away for a while ) It'll be easier next time you do it

That's a special one.

Thanks Greg :)

Started using a ceramic finishing stick, I should have had one of these years ago! My lambs are sooo happy now.:D

I like ceramics :)

You're supposed to shave your arms, not your legs! :D

LOL! :D When I was producing knives in Sheffield (Jack Black Knives), me and the two cutlers virtually ran out of arm hair! We were speculating about hiring folks in just for their arm hair! :D

I hope the hot spell is broken soon, Jack!:thumbsup:

...

Thanks for valuing Valley Jack, Jack. :)
The lyrics of that song seem quite cryptic to me, and I spent some time trying to figure out to what "curly wurly" might actually refer, and that candy kept coming up!;)

...

Your model Karmen Ghia looked good.

Thanks pal, it's cooler today :)

Who knows GT, I've often wondered about song lyrics! :D ;)

I once delivered a Karmen Ghia to Sigmund Freud's granddaughter :)

That's a great pic of Valley Jack :)

This cat is hip! The knife's pretty cool, too.

Nice pic Vince :)

Thanks for the nice compliments donn donn . Absolutely loved the ancient door and these wood statues are simply amazing. Thanks for taking the time to share them with us!

Your welcome.

It's all David's donn donn fault!:D:p:)

Quick pic for now:

I happily admit all and any charges concerning accusations of getting people addicted to pie. :D

Alright, this is the last report in an occasional series of investigations into traditional pies and pasties, inspired by David donn donn , Jack, and GT @5K Qs .

So, with my ol’ ebony Lambsfoot in pocket, I headed out to try some of the wares of the famous ‘Victorian Sausage King’!

I’ve been quite taken with this shop, and was pleased to find a very reasonably priced large bottle of Hendersons Relish among the British and Irish delicacies on their shelves. One thing I love about travelling is sampling the tastes of different foods around the world.

And who doesn’t love a shop where you can get a beer with your food supplies?

(Actually, prompted by donn donn ‘s accolades for Sarah Hughes’ Ruby Mild, I perhaps foolishly thought I’d try a John Smith’s Extra Smooth. I’ve never reflexively spat out a first mouthful of beer and tipped the rest down the sink before, so the less said about that one, the better.)

Thankfully, the pies and pasties are far better!

I acquired some Cornish Pasties, some genuine vegetable pasties (no shortening in the crust), and some Manchester Cheese ‘n’ Onion pies, and a couple of Scottish ‘Bridies’.

Here’s a vegie pastie, and a Bridie:

And a Cornish pastie and a Cheese ‘n’ Onion pie:

I understand the folded edges of Cornish Pasties were made so miners could grasp them with their hands covered with dirt or toxic chemicals, and eat the inner pastie, and throw the crust away.

Both of the pasties were very good, but I think I like the pasties made with fresh chopped vegetables in the best of my local bakeries a little better.

But the real standouts were actually the Manchester Cheese ‘n’ Onion pies and the Scottish Bridies, which were like a pastie with a minced meat and onion and suet filling.

Why have I never heard of either of those two dishes before?

Both of them were very delicious, and I’ve returned for more, since then!

Mmmm, so good!

And would you look at that shop! It's better than similar shops over here!:D Thanks for posting the inside shots; I wondered what sort of pies that chap made when you last posted about this place.
Sorry to hear about your experience of John Smith's. If it's any condolence, you'd do exactly the same with it if you bought it from a shop in the UK. :D But all the food looks delicious and well made so I'm sure that made up for it.

I've been off the forums for a couple of weeks as I've been extremely busy so just sort of catching up with the thread. Great pics everyone.
When I've had a lambsfoot in my pocket these past two weeks it's usually been this one.

Intriguing...

Yup, exactly!

LOL! :D When I was producing knives in Sheffield (Jack Black Knives), me and the two cutlers virtually ran out of arm hair! We were speculating about hiring folks in just for their arm hair! :D

I have light hair so I can get away with it without much notice. But, I can tell you that sunscreen goes onto my left forearm so much more easily than on my right. :D

Your welcome.

Welcome back. It's good to see you here.

This one has swept the pocket hog Hartshead out of my pocket at least for one more day. :D

Good Thursday Morning Guardians
This week seems to be flying by so fast. It's good to be at work and busy again.:thumbsup:
I've tried to get along with those Swiss knives, but I just never really took to them. But I do appreciate the array of tools they come with. So, I just got this Gerber Shard and I'll be testing it out in the coming weeks. I'll have a Lambsfoot in my front pocket for cutting duties, and the Shard in my watch pocket to take care of any screwdriver, bottle opening, or prying emergencies. :D

Oh, no, did the hospital staff catch you taking knife photos in ICU and discipline you, Ron??:(
I hope your brother-in-law continues to improve.
They probably couldn’t catch a cold Gary! I was only carrying the one knife! ;)

Half/Stop Half/Stop - Thank you Ron.:) Have fun at the market with your Black Prince Lamb
o_O

My BROTHER IN LAW is still in ICU! They may move him to a regular room tomorrow! Today I’m still sitting with him and I’m toting a Lambfoot in my pocket! :D

Great to hear! Continuing hope for better health.
My Uncle may be released to go home soon from his acute rehab. He hasn't been out of a hospital for several weeks, so this would be some very welcoming news. Then learning how to manage around home will be his next challenge. But at least he will be home. And I have enjoyed having my Aunt here as we have gotten to catch up quite a bit. But we all know about what it means to be home.
