Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Good morning Guardians! It took me over an hour to do my first post this morning. :( I had to go fix me another cup of coffee so I won't fall asleep while posting this one! I'm carrying one of my Jack Black SFOs from 2017. It's a Guardians model and it has some very nice Horn to display. I hope y'all are staying safe and well out there! :)

Yup. I try to get all the geezer discounts, too.
That makes two of us! Most places don't widely advertise that they offer senior discounts. I'm not bashful so I always ask. ;) I especially like that McDonalds senior coffee. It just seems to taste better than the full priced stuff! :D

Good morning Guardians and anyone else looking in.

"Lil-un" with shaped handle and Pere David Stag. The mottling i a bit lack-luster but the underlying gray coloring is rather nice. At any rate, it's a nice little knife.

There is no bad stag Ed! ;) Some is just better than others! :D

Well Pilgrim, I need to get my Colt single action six out and give "The Duke" a good dusting.

Great Bill! :D:thumbsup: You got me looking up John Wayne quotes and I find one that is certainly appropriate to the current clow...sorry I mean governments actions.

Life is tough, but it's tougher when your stupid...
:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes: :D

:D

The 2.87 figure was for England, but I'm getting much the same figure for Britain and the UK! So much for bloody Google! o_O I was amazed Texas was bigger than Yorkshire! :D ;)

Oh yeah! That's a much better beer selection than I managed to get from BeerzRUzInc  When things eventually open up again, I might have to try and get hold of some of those :) Cheers David

Jack. Nothing is bigger than Yorkshire...:D
Aye, Google is getting worse and worse, but I'd expect that if their crew are to busy censoring the internet instead of checking the facts they put on it.
Great selection isn't it. I doubled up this week as they had brewed more of the darker ones. They don't brew the same beers every week and many on their portfolio are light and hoppy.

Google and Wikipedia kinda suck. So much inaccurate information.
I think a lot of Americans are confused by "England", "UK", "Britain", "Great Britain", etc.
I think I've got it, though:
Britain = England + Wales
Great Britain = Britain + Scotland
UK = Great Britain + Northern Ireland

Hi Vince, not quite. The full title of my country is:
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
What you hear referred to as Great Britain and Britain are exactly the same, it's just that many people including myself, no longer use the appellation 'Great' for various reasons.
As to why the formal name of the UK makes a distinction between the UK (England, Scotland, Wales) and Northern Ireland I've got to admit I don't know as I always thought all the constituent parts were "equal".
The UK government is in London. But Scotland has a Scottish Parliament, Wales has an Assembly as does Northern Island, which are forms of devolved government and which have various but different powers separate from the UK Government in London.
England has no separate governmental assembly.
The national flag is the Union Flag (commonly referred to as the Union Jack) and consists of St' Georges Cross of England (Feast Day 23rd April), St' Andrews Cross of Scotland (30th November) and St' Patrick's Cross of Northern Ireland (17th March). For some reason I don't know, Wales is not represented on the Union Flag.
Each separate country has it's own patron saint. Those listed above and St' David for Wales (1st March).
There was a movement in England to have our original Anglo-Saxon patron saint reinstated as St' George was sort of foisted on us by the Normans. St' Edmund's Day would be 20th November and see the English flag change from St' Georges Cross to that of three gold crowns on a pale blue background.
England though has other saints that various regions venerate as much if not more so than St' George. St' Perran is the patron saint of Cornwall. And many in the far north of England consider St' Cuthbert (the Saint of the North) to be their patron saint.

I used the clippers on my 40 year old son the other day and it turned out better than his barber does. I told him to get a new barber:D.

I hoped you charged him 20 quid+tip before he walked out the door.

I’m glad to see your supplies are holding out David! ;) Great perch for your Sambar Hartshead!

49809480607_1fa6db9caa_o.jpg

LOL! Oh my supplies aren't holding out. I drank the last lot, that's the fresh delivery that rocked up yesterday. :D
And you must of posted that before but the SFO is fine looking. I didn't know the 'ironwoods' had also come in horn to.

The best I can figure is it is a 5 Kopek coin. I had to look it up :p. It takes 100 kopeks to make a ruble so this would be similar to an American nickel I guess.

Thanks for posting that Les that's interesting to know, I know absolutely nothing about Russian currency.

Happy St' George's Day folks.

It's fun to pass a little time, laugh, and visit.:thumbsup:

I bet it is John :)

Yeah, you're not kidding Vince, I'm always amazed when people use Wilkipedia as a sole source. Every year or so, someone posts a link to their knife content, which seems to be utter rubbish!

A lot of people over here are pretty confused too Vince! Britain and Great Britain are the same, all the countries in the big island (England, Scotland, and Wales) and the small islands close by, and UK is Great Britain and Northern Ireland :)

Really great photo of your HHB.:thumbsup::thumbsup: The stag is picking up the browns in the stone. Everything is bright and in focus too.:)

Thanks a lot Bill, that's very kind :)

I like the old fashioned clippers on the back and sides, scissors on top, but I can't do it myself, and I'm afraid to let my wife do it--she cut our boys' hair once when they were little and did a terrible job! Maybe I'll try the Willie Nelson look.
y4HWJRO.jpg

It'd suit you Vince! :D My mother used to cut my hair when I was a young kid, and my mother can't even make a good sandwich, let alone cut hair! I cut my own hair with clippers for about 15 years until recently, and I only started going to the barbers because he's a nice feller who needs the trade, and he's very cheap! :D

Bah-bah-bah! Bah-Barber Brian! :D

Mqtk9qm.jpg

Thanks Jack! Being modest is one thing I’m not usually accused of being! I haven’t thought of that movie in a long time. It was quite entertaining at the time. I just might have to revisit it. I was admiring that loaf in the other thread. It looks very tasty! The Hartshead just keeps improving with age! :D

Well, you can add it to your CV now Ron! :D I saw it at the cinema, great movie, and it even gave us a new (as far as I know) word - Friendo! :D Thanks Ron, it's a wholemeal sourdough loaf :)

Looks good Ron, I might have to dig out some horn myself, it's been a while :)

Yup. I try to get all the geezer discounts, too.

You do right Jer! ;) My Polish neighbour, (who has lived here 15 years, and has British citizenship), just told me that while he doesn't retire here for another year, he just received his Polish pension card. I asked him if it meant he got free bus travel there

Good morning Guardians and anyone else looking in.

Good morning, Guardians!

(Old pic, but the jasmine is blooming in my back yard right now; smells great!)

It may be old, but it's a great pic Vince :)

Great quote! :D

Jack. Nothing is bigger than Yorkshire...:D

That's what I'd always been told mate! :D

Great selection isn't it. I doubled up this week as they had brewed more of the darker ones. They don't brew the same beers every week and many on their portfolio are light and hoppy.

I just ordered from Zapato, so I hope I get some dark ones :) Particularly as that other set-up sent me the wrong type of Leffe o_O

A scholarly reply David  Of course I consider myself a citizen of God's Own...! :D ;)

2017 - Horn
2018 - Horn and Ebony
2019 - Ironwood

Happy St' George's Day folks.

Cheers David :) I'll just cook my tea, and I'll join you ;)

"For Harry, England, and Saint George!"
It's also Shakespeare's birthday today. :)

A friend of mine told me about a big surprise her parents had for her 55th birthday: They took her to Denny's for the Senior Breakfast, for which she now qualifies. She was unimpressed.
That's the kind of thing my dad would do, but he would be laughing about it. They were dead serious.

David, I’ve got a couple of the 2017 Horn models. This one and a “Midnight Special”. I chose the Ebony in 2018 and the Ironwood in 2019. All fine SFO knives provided by our friend Jack! :D

Bah-bah-bah! Bah-Barber Brian! :D

There was some beautiful Horn in that first bunch Jack! And of course the “Midnight Specials” were included also! $3.71 for a haircut is cheap Jack! Unless that’s a Burr Cut or a Flat Top! :D

When I hit my 50s, I'd be checking out of say a grocery store and the checker would say something like; "Oh, you're eligible for our Senior Discount".:( I'd actually get a little insulted and reply back; "Do I look like an old man" but of course I'd take the discount.:)

Lol! I have had the Senior Breakfast at our local Denny’s before Rachel! To be honest it tasted just as bad as the rest of the menu, only cheaper! Our Denny’s is way on the other side of town from my house. My brother and I used to meet there for breakfast because it’s closer for him. We don’t patronize them anymore. I could tolerate the food to accommodate my brother. Every since they got a failing grade on their health inspection several months ago we wrote them off the list! :D

Thanks, David & Jack. I'm still a little confused, but that's okay--I'm used to it! o_O;):D
"For England and St. George!"
It's also Shakespeare's birthday today. :)

You're far from alone there Vince, half the population of Northern Ireland say they're British ;) :D

And Saint George, who is the patron saint of a lot of places, never actually visited England - not even on holiday! :D

LOL! :D I'm impressed that 55 is considered senior there though, here you've got to be practically dying on your feet! o_O

Yeah, it's a bargain Ron, and despite my ragging him, Brian is a pretty good barber. A lot of the youngsters come in, even a few women, and he spends ages giving them fancy haircuts, and still charges them the standard rate, which is £4.20! I usually give him £7, even for my scalping, as I don't want him to go out of business :D I just hope this lockdown doesn't finish him :(

LOL! :D My girlfriend is in her late 40's, and still regularly gets asked to prove she's old enough to buy alcohol! I on the other hand was drinking in pubs at 13, and nobody ever asked for my ID  :D

Happy Saint George's Day. :cool::thumbsup:

Happy Birthday, Bill. :cool::thumbsup:

Cheers to George and Bill, my two grandfathers! :D And the other George & Bill of course ;)

They started giving me senior discounts at Whataburger about ten years ago. And I wasn't asking for it!

Some businesses here give a senior discount if you're 55, some 62, and some 65. The local minor league baseball team gives discounts to "Senior Sluggers" if they are 55 or older. One is considered "elderly" at 65 in the Texas Penal Code.
