I didn't stay there either, but I wandered in and walked around. There is a pub that is partly underground, and has an entrance on the outside also of the hotel. I remember the name, of course! Had a martini there (wife probably had a glass of wine or a margarita). No we didn’t Vince! We don’t stay at the big hotel. We just admire it from a distance. It’s cheaper that way!![]()
Good Morning...lizard brain not fully awake...chilly monday...2 questions:
Who won the recent gaw? And
congratulations to whomsoever that is.
And what kills the biggest spider in my garage? This specimen easily straddling my hand....not an exoskeleton but a corpse...Im thinking a smaller more venomous spider...
No insecticides in there that I know of.![]()
Not something you would find lurking in the blueberriesJTB_5
Cheers.Sorry for the interruption...normal service will shortly resume.![]()
Another place you could look is in this thread in early April, starting around page 1900, and find that several Guardians posted group photos of their entire flocks. The knives aren't identified by name in most cases, but if you see something about which you'd like more info, I'll bet you could quote the post in question and ask the poster for details.
You too Dylan! How are you doing buddy? Great pic there, what's the whisky like, I've not had that one?

In 2018, aware that Wright's had managed to obtain a small amount of vintage Sambar stag, I commissioned the 'Ashley's Choice' Lambsfoot SFOs. There was just enough stag to make 28 knives, which were the smaller Lambsfoot size. I gave the cutler the choice between a threaded or fluted bolster, hence the name. For once, everything went right with this run!

I don’t know who won the giveaway, but I do know that if that guy were lurking in the blue berries it would be to catch one of those noisy crows—what a specimen!Good Morning...lizard brain not fully awake...chilly monday...2 questions:

Those I’ve seen. Not ones I’d like to see again.

Thanks for all your comments on Jake. There is a hole or vent pipe in the warehouse roof that lets that little spot of light in. If I time my lunch break just right, I can sneak a knife pic in.
This is my only day off this week so I have lots of stuff to take care of before Monday strikes again.
I hope y'all are having a great weekend.

Thanks GT. You know looking at your Black Jack and thinking about the bagpipe ebony got me thinking. I wonder if any knife makers have ever thought of using old pianos to source ebony (and ivory). We've my great-great-aunts upright in our house which would need about £3000 to renovate it. But according to my cousin who is a professional violinist and pianist old pianos (unless there one of the revered names) are just about worthless. It's got all it's keys and a lovely faded walnut case. You could make dozens of pocket knife covers out of it, and one ebony covered pocket knife would exceed the value of the entire piano.
It's a hot afternoon here, just had a good meal off the grill, I could use a drink and a nap

Thank you, Jack! I am keeping pretty well. Busy as always but nothing that is keeping me down for too long. Summer has seemed to finally arrive so I've been occupied with my garden and some summer house projects.
The Magnus is a decent dram - separate from and not nearly as intense as the Islays I typically favor, it still has a nice "smokey" air to it. I find it to be a bit on the lighter side but quite smooth - it pairs nicely with a stronger cigar or pipe. Overall, a nice whisky at a decent price and though it is a "single malt", it follows the recent trend of not providing any sort of age...
I always enjoy seeing the pictures of the AC collection, easily your finest SFO.
I was digging through some old pictures and came across this one from a misty morning awhile back when the Stag and blade had not developed a lot of patina quite yet.

Two classics Taylor![]()
Love the pics Ron![]()
I'm glad to hear that Dylan, hope you have a great summer buddyThanks for your thoughts on the Highland Park Magnus, I'll give it a try if I see it. I do dislike the current trend for named blends without details of the age, it seems like a con-trick
Thank you my friend, I also have a fondness for the ACs, they were a lot less trouble than the other SFOs!Nice photo

prairie.dog - The most important thread to read on the sub-forum is this one. Unfortunately, it's also the most neglected by new (and not so new) posters. Those posting in this thread should start by reading this Thanks for editing your post
Good Morning Guardians! I hope everyone had a great weekendMore miserable weather here in Yorkshire, and since I have plenty to do at home, I don't think I'll be going far. Hope everyone's week gets off to a good start
