Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Happy birthday, Ed!

Onions weren't on the menu this morning, but made a good stand for my Ashley's Choice lambsfoot.

That's handy to know.

They closed about 2 weeks after I had paid the annual subscription, just shut up shop and went home, didn't let any of their customers know or put anything on the website. A number of parcels, that were already on their way to me, were either returned to sender, or lost altogether, because they didn't bother to make an arrangement with the post office, or even put up a note on the door

I use these small bottles for thin glues and oils. You can find them online, if nowhere else try the hobby shops as they are good for the small parts applications with plastic and resin kits.

Another good tip :)

Excellent choice, Jack! Cool map as well!:thumbsup:

Nice! Maintenance is a must! Like the lighters as well.:thumbsup:

Thanks pal, the Zippo was a kind gift from Paul Hiborn, some years ago, but as I don't use it all the time, liquid fuel evaporates, so I purchased a drop-in insert, which takes butane, and burns just like the Zippo flame ;)

Good thoughts, Ron! Hope everyone in the area remain safe and alert!
Like Jacks, it's a dandy of a Lambsfoot !:cool::thumbsup:

Yum! Just ate, but they still look good!;)

Bet it's some interesting reading, but I grew up around mines.

Thanks again Dennis, I can't say the steel book was riveting! The author looks like he might have been an associate of Mr Cholmondley-Warner ;) :D ;)

Great info on the pharmacy grade mineral oil. I use to use fishing real oil, now I use this type, which seems to work good, and I can get it around the corner at Ace.

That looks OK Dennis :) I just used 3 in 1 until the late 70's, when my younger brother gave me a bottle of very fine machine oil he'd originally bought for his train set. It came in a bottle like a 'Tippex' (typewriter correction fluid) bottle, with a handy application brush. I used it for years, until the bottle ran out, but was never able to find it for sale again :(

LOL! Feed me, Seamore!:cool::thumbsup:

We went to see a school's production a few year's back, and it was really good! :D

Guess you had a photo or two of your Rosewood HHB, Jack!:D:thumbsup:
Great looking pair!

Just a few Dennis  Thanks mate :)

Have a good day out, Jack, and be safe!:)

Listening to music a lot lately, these bluetooth headphones are great!:thumbsup:

Thanks a lot Dennis, you too :) Great pic of your horn Big 'Un :)

Lovely pics, Jack. (Methinks I saw the McDonnell Observatory in one.)

Thank you very much Vince, you did indeed my friend :)

I'm a firm believer in adhering to the KISS method!:D:thumbsup:

Definitely! :D

Don’t ask what woke me up at 2am.
But Happy Birthday, Ed!

In my case, it was my neighbour's washing machine o_O But Happy Birthday @ModocED

Good morning Guardians! I’m going to be carrying my 2018 Guardians Ebony today. Hopefully your Thursday will be a good one! :)

Nice choice Ron  Hope you're having a good day my friend :)

Thanks Jack! I hope you're having a good one as well my friend! :)

Thank you Ron, the market was OK, and I stocked up on a few supplies. I came home a little earlier than usual, as a friend down the road was going to call round with his little lad, but then the heavens opened, and it has been raining hard for the past few hours. I'll probably put my feet up and have a few beers this evening :) Hope you have a good one pal

I've been experimenting with convex edges on a couple of knives lately and wanted to try one out on my trusty standard buffalo horn A. Wright. I had a spare hour during the week and thought I'd see what I could do with my KME sharpener with the convexing rod. Well, before I got started, I realized that the edge had developed a noticeable recurve:

This is very likely because of a previous inexpert job of sharpening I did on my Tormek when I wanted to reprofile it after damaging the tip. This is a risk when sharpening a straight edge on a grinding wheel, because the middle tends to get more time against the abrasive. I was surprised that I hadn't noticed it before, but it was extremely evident. I measured it with a feeler gauge and the space in the middle is about 0.01 inches.

Well, that just won't do for—as my friend @Cambertree would put it—Mah Knife. I had to put the project on hold, but had some time today to break out first the files and then an extra coarse diamond plate to grind out the recurve. Midway through, I used small diamond files to cut a new choil. Here it is part way through:

The blue tape, incidentally, was a tip I picked up from @r8shell, if I recall correctly. It prevents metal filings from getting into the joint and also gives a bit of protection to the bolster.

After a bit more work with the extra coarse stone to get the edge nice and straight (and oh so blunt!) and the diamond files to finish cutting the choil, it was off to the KME for sharpening. It took quite a while to establish a new convex edge, but I'm very happy with how it turned out. It's the most even grind this knife has ever seen and it's easily shaving hair from the back of my arm.

Tomorrow evening I'll need to break down some cardboard boxes to take out with the recycling. I can hardly wait. :D

Have a great week folks. I hope everyone's managing to stay safe.
You inspired me!!! Saw your work, and knowing that Chin is a big fan, did some research. I had a go yesterday with one of my work knives, so if i mucked it up would not be a big deal. I am very happy with the result, and looking forward to see how the edge holds up. My photos cannot show how sharp the end result is, but believe me, it is sharp.
Hope all the Guardians have a good weekend, and anyone in the hurricane area please take care, i am sure all on the "Porch" are thinking of you.

Good evening, Guardians.

I'm having a sip of this raspberry ale that I found at the market today. I usually like the Samuel Smith stuff but had not tried this one yet. Just on the other side of my deck railing is a patch of yellow raspberries that I planted earlier this spring - they are just starting to produce.

My entry into the lambsfoot world. A. Wright with left handed nail nick. From what I gather this is a pretty good example. Sturdy pull and good action. I carried it at work all last week. The handle shape feels good in the hand. Funny thing is that I've wanted a knife with a left handed nick. But when using it I instinctively flip it over and open with my right hand. Here it is as received, and then after I put an edge on it and carried for a week.
