Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I have never heard of a Lambs foot until stumbling onto this thread. Now looking at it I'm intrigued and will have to go back and read the who thread. Before I would of just see those knives and thought they had a large sheep foot blade. Now I'm very curious. By the way the ones I've seen here so far are beautiful.

Totin this in my carries for today. A Rosewood Bigun! :D Excuse the recycled photo, but it’s the best one I got and it’s 34 and dark outside right now!

Here's hoping you get it sorted out Jack, I have a visit with the dentist tomorrow, I'm afraid it's going to be a painful experience, think I'll tote the horn Big'un for luck...

Thanks Duane, and good luck at the dentist my friend

Hi fellas! Just received my first A Wright Lambs foot knife, with a rosewood handle. I never really thought about it before until I had one in hand, why does the handle sweep upwards towards the butt end? Is it just for aesthetics,or is there a functional purpose to this style?

I wonder?! I remember having all last year's Guardians knives in my house, and being almost overpowered by the smell of the horn! :D

(Their latest theory on my 6-month old cough is that it might be caused by my throat being irritated by silent acid reflux. I have some new medication in addition to my regular reflux medication. Took my prescription to the pharmacy today, and it was 4 pages long!)

Hope you can get some respite from your cough Jack. 6 months is an awful long time to endure such a thing. I have had a persistent cough before, not nearly as long as you have experienced, but it still was a rather considerable inconvenience. I'll raise a glass to your health and hope for a speedy recovery.

Congratulations on your first Lambsfoot! I hope you get much enjoyment from it. In regards to the sway in the handle, not only do I find it aesthetically pleasing, but it also serves as an ergonomic function. I find it immensely comfortable, particularly due to it being a working man's/woman's knife. It just fills the hand in all the right places, allowing for a secure grip that has not produced any fatigue or cramping. And I have used a lambsfoot from preparing food, hunting mushrooms, cleaning grouse, some minor whittling, and many other tasks. It truly is a working knife and I think you will find that the swayback frame is rather ideal for such purposes.

A little springtime action here. Though you wouldn't know it today other than the blossoms, overcast and rainy....

Thank you sir for your comments regarding the handle shape. I also received a Otter-Messer
Sheep's foot knife ,at the same time, so that's what got me thinking about the handle shape.

I guess everybody has a 6-month cough these days. Glad it's not serious.

Yeah! :D

Thank you very much Dylan, it's not quite as bad as the one I had last year, which also lasted six months   Nice reply to our newest member, and an excellent pic my friend :) Hope you're settling into the new place

Welcome aboard! I think of the Lamsfoot handle as swelling more that swaying ( notice the bottom of the handle stays straight ) and that swell on the end prevents the knife from twisting / rolling in your hand. That's my thoughts on it anyway.

Jack Black Jack Black First, I hope you get rid of that dang cold soon. Second, do you have any idea how old the Lambsfoot pattern is?

Listening to tunes with Betty today.

Thanks Jack, things went better than hoped, but there will be a long road ahead if I am to keep my chiclets complete. I posted these images in the totin' thread, but also want to share them here, as they so aptly portray the duality of my horn Big'un, which i fondly call my Gemini Lambsfoot

My wife marvels when she see's this one, and she also calls it my Gemini, which I am...

Thanks pal, I've not had a six month cold, thankfully, just a hacking cough. Doc thinks it might be caused by silent reflux, so I have some new meds  There's been a lot of discussion about the age of the Lambsfoot here, and for anyone who wants to read it, Greg's index is a great help, as there's a Lambsfoot History link. We think it originated in the late 19th century Kevin, but we still don't know exactly when, or who invented the pattern

Those are some GREAT tunes, I have Mingus' autobiography queued up to read. I love how spectacularly black Betty is  Enjoy your day my friend

Glad to hear that Duane, you don't want to end up like me, with a mouth like a bombed graveyard! Great to see both sides of your Gemini  Prior to last year's Guardians knife, Wright's had only ever used the more characterful horn on the mark side of their knives, which is what they still do. I don't actually have a photo of the pile side of mine, but it's plain by comparison to the mark side

Beneath The Underdog
was a great read. Gotta be over 30 years since I read it
I think I have that same Charlie Mingus album too.
Drink more water for your cough.
I hope the medicine eases the irritation.

I'm looking forward to it mate, thanks a lot :) Ah Um was my first jazz album (that's also at least 30 years ago). I wish I had all my dad's old 78's (some of which I can remember taping), they'd make great pic backgrounds! :D
