Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Enjoyed carrying my Charlie Lamb today :) Not that I've done much :D

That's hot Vince! 😳 Yeah, none of my English ancestors saw these temperatures here, ever! 104 in London, where there are a bunch of fires, as there are elsewhere. There are barely any trains running, and the roads are melting! 🙄 I'm ok though, the mercury has dropped back to 98 now 👍
Stay hydrated Jack. I can’t believe the temps you are having. News said only 1% of households have AC. Hope it passes soon.

Pete

Today and yesterdays photo dump! We leave tomorrow at 1 am 😒😬😳!!!

First up was our stop at Chena Hot Spring!! Saw a moose and drank some apple martinis in the ice museum.

The hot springs were a high light of the trip!

Even saw an old rusted out truck with California plates! LOL

Today we went to Dredge #8. An old dredge that was abandoned in the 50’s. In 30 years of operation it moved 4 miles! We did some more gold panning and got about $55 dollars worth.

The inner workings of the dredge were amazing. I was especially excited to see the inside of one because one of my Great Great Grandfathers was a winchman (captain) in a dredge during the California gold rush.

We stopped by HooDoo brewing on the way to dinner.
Their IPA was pretty dang good!!!

And I got a Maibock!

Absolutely, one of my bug bears is knives sold as Lambsfoot knives that are bordering on Wharncliffe blades.🤬 Hope you're okay in the heat.🥰
Thanks mate, the overnight temperatures haven't been much fun, but doing OK :)
Nice combo, Jack. Tell us the story of that interesting looking slingshot, please.
Thanks Harvey :) That's one of many successful designs by British slingshot legend John Webb, (AKA Gamekeeper John), called a 'Bloodstopper'. That polymer version is tough, and inexpensive, and allows a variety of holds

Welcome Jon and that's a fine lambsfoot!

I hope all are well in this insufferable heat. View attachment 1875549
That photo is a work of art Dwight

Thanks Pete, yeah, I don't know anyone who has AC! It was a hot night, but the forecast for today is high 70's, with some thunderstorms possibly, and a cooler night to come

Wow Taylor, your Alaska trip looks like the trip of a lifetime  Thanks for sharing your wonderful pics buddy :) I had never heard that word 'wenchman' before, very interesting :) Safe travels

Good morning Guardians, some amazing photos eh? Hope everyone is doing OK. I can't say I got a great night's sleep last night, but hoping to catch up tonight. I'm going to head into town later, to get some bread, and a few other things. Need a shave first ;) :D Have a good day everyone, and I hope you can find some shade :)Hartshead Barlow is back in my pocket

Sorry to see the fires that happened, they seemed like they were in populated areas.

Thanks Jack! Now at the airport for the ride home! I checked my spelling it’s definitely “winchman” I misspelled it and had to check it.

The dredge was amazing! The bucket-line or ladder dredge has 68 buckets, each with a capacity of 6 cubit feet. And a 150 horse power motor that ran the line. It recovered 7.5 million ounces of gold 🤯🤯

Oh right Taylor, that makes more sense :) Good luck at the airport buddy, and I hope you have a smooth flight :)

Wow, that's incredible! I have read a few books about Alaskan gold prospecting

I've just been out in my garden, only 8.30am here, but I couldn't believe how much cooler it was today, than indoors. These old houses really hang onto the heat!

Blimey, that happened fast! Well saved Leon! :)

I went to town to get some shopping, but the supermarkets are half-empty because their refrigeration either failed, or was switched off yesterday

I've been looking at a Chinese rip-off in wood on Llamaland, but I know I have at least one slingshot in the garage, and maybe two.

I keep meaning to start laying in canned food. Such a fragile web we trust in.

Most of the Chinese-made ones are perfectly fine. A few are so badly constructed they're dangerous

Yes indeed  I laid in a LOT of tinned goods, other long-life foodstuffs, and luxury items (booze!) in the run-up to Brexit, as I figured prices were bound to increase (at least). When the first of the Covid lockdowns here came a few months later, that worked out well. My stock has gone down, but since prices of many foodstuffs have doubled in price, it's saved me quite a bit of money
Good morning Guardians. I'm finally emerging from this most recent Covid infection. Slowly getting better but still a little shaky. Going to venture out today and shake off the cobwebs. HHB by my side.

You take it easy Bill, and don't go rushing around  Glad to hear you're starting to feel better
Hope you're having a great day, Jack.
Not bad thanks John :) Since it's warmer indoors than outside, I decided to go out again, pick up a few things, and then go for lunch in a Middle Eastern restaurant, which should negate me having to cook later ;)
