Education is in the same boat. More and more are leaving the profession with all the current demands placed upon them. They've discovered that they can take their fancy degrees and earn more elsewhere without all the hassles. There are certain professions that this world needs; military, police, fire, medical, and educators... it's time they all got their respect and salaries they deserve... or they are just going to keep leaving in record numbers.

Yes John, and all those professions are underpaid and undervalued, and in the case of the first two here, they're actively being made unemployed

Short story... I was buying coffee with my wife the other day. The cashier asked if I was a police officer or a fire fighter (I have that look), because first responders get a discount. I told her I was a teacher and we are often the very first responders, and we are definitely on the front lines during the pandemic. No discount... about the only discounts teachers get are at the book stores.

I want to change my title to Teen Ager Day Care Professional, and start charging all my parents $35.00/hour for babysitting.
35 dollars and hour, times 25 students, times 8 hours a day = $7,000.00 a day... or about 1-1/2 million dollars a year.

The world we knew has changed because of this pandemic, probably forever!!

Don't want to politicize the thread, but this was happening over here well before the pandemic. The hospital staff left in droves because of the threats and abuse from, i can't say what i would like to call them, mostly drug and alcohol affected. But also just selfish individuals who thought that they deserved special treatment. I have witnessed it first hand and it is disgusting and demoralising, and i know of plenty of nurses who have left the profession because of these reasons, the Pandemic certainly did not help though. Then throw in lack of money being spent on the Health Care System and you have the perfect storm. I was told by many in the health/hospital system 12 years ago this would happen, but those in charge would not listen to those on the ground and at the coal face, very sad but true, this was all preventable. I apologise if this is not appropriate for this thread and will delete if so, but just makes me so angry. I am supposed to be on a waiting list for 2 operations, i have not even bothered applying, because by the time that i get in there is a good chance i will be deceased.

Leon, don’t sugarcoat it! My older brother has been a board certified ER doc for about 40 years. He’s seen his share of what he calls, “kooka-dooks”. Says they’ve always been there and always will. Unfortunately they just come with the job.

I've been watching a film from my childhood, and from my dad's childhood (it was his favourite)






I was glad to find it, on DVD, at a reasonable price, the other week. It has an extra disc, which is full of fascinating short films, and some 85 year old bloopers and outtakes. Incredible to think that Jimmy Cagney was first supposed to play the Robin Hood role! Here"s a tidbit for JohnDF too, Olivier de Havilland"s horse in the film, then called 'Golden Cloud', was later adopted by Roy Rogers, and became 'Trigger'!
