Thank you Jack. His manner and techniques apply to any knife he made.know the one you mean Harvey, in fact Stan gave me a copy on DVD. Perhaps it might work better in one of these threads? Post it here if you want though![]()

True HarveyThank you Jack. His manner and techniques apply to any knife he made.
Two good stories and an excellent portrait of Stan Shaw. I learned, because of his precise knife making skills, why other pocket knives from other cutlers, produce knives that are not up to snuff. He was a Maestro.Thank you for letting me share this here, Jack.True HarveyIt's funny to see Ken Hawley's face at the opening, Ken and Stan were from very different sections of society, and Stan had very little time for him. He used to tell me, quite outraged, (which was funny to hear), "I caught that bloody Ken Hawley taking a short-cut through here (Stan's workshop at the museum) once, cheeky beggar! So I've changed locks! I'm not having him coming through here, there's all me tools lying about, you never know what he might help himself to!"

He told me another story, which was less funny, but frankly typical of some of the academics and museum types in Sheffield. Once a year, a long-standing friend and customer, from Tennessee, used to come over to Sheffield for a week, to visit Stan. The Hawley Tool Collection was only just starting off then, and wasn't housed at the museum, but at a separate building not far from Stan's old workshop, so Stan took his friend up to view it. Joan Unwin, who now works at the Cutler's Hall, was at the front desk. Stan had been enormously helpful to her, and given up a lot of his time to assist her, when she was writing her Doctoral thesis. So, he was staggered, and very embarrassed, when she refused to admit Stan and his friend without an appointment![]()

Spectacular photoYour Barlow and factory image is first rate, mate.
To paraphrase the great philosopher, Rod Stewart: “Every knife tells a story, don’t it.”
The horn haft has a blend of blond, brown, dark red, black(on the pile side), etc., depending on the light.
Here, eccentric is a good thing.
A great share of images and story of your Barber’s shop, Jack. Have a good productive, fun, yet restful day.
Bon Voyage and pleasant times, Bill.
A fine image of a very nice Lambfoot, Todd.

That's interestingI found this 6-foot, metal folding rule in an old wood toolbox my Dad had. It's a Lufkin, made in Saginaw, Michigan. I believe its aluminum, as its not magnetic and the only rust is at the steel pins. It doesn't feel heavy enough to be stainless, but it could be.

Thank you very much. I acquired it from Charlie Campagna with the help from Jack Black.Way cool Jack!! The problem I run into most times is that time hasn’t been good to these old relics , and they weren’t made from a stainless steel and are all rusted up and shut! But i have salvaged a few over the years! Love the case for your tri-fold !
So forgive my ignorance but would these be similar to a ginger snap?
Beautiful stag on that HHB sir !
I really like the looks of these , I intend to pick one up eventually , I would say with use the handles on those will look like a buttery ivory bone eventually !
That lighting has got to be from the sun rise ! Beautiful !
We are heading up the road a piece this morning taking my 2 year old to an interactive children’s museum ….. let’s just hope he plays nice![]()

That looks so good! After spending half an hour with my neighbours, and their new-born Ava, I offered to go and buy some paracetamol for the missus. I was also hoping to have a sandwich at Charlie's Cafe, but they were closing early for some reason, so I had to settle for a coffee, and a cheeseburger when I got back home![]()

But "Tasties" is so descriptive. And the ear of grain in the lettering is so evocative of ginger. [scream]Looks like some fool is trying to re-brand these Ginger Nuts!![]()
