Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Showing off, like I promised...

Fantastic! πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
Thank you, Gentlemen. :)
I had a fun day. There were 32 teams entered, and my partner and I ended up in third place. Pretty happy with that. I got to visit with some family and friends, had some really good pizza, and hung around and watched some young people that made me believe there is hope for the future... gotta love Ag Kids.

Well done buddy. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
To end up with the results you did show a level of skill and patience sir! Well done !πŸ‘
Thanks for the kind words. 😊

Hope you're having a great time together Greg :)

LOL! 🀣

Looks like you have everything you need :)

They are! Unfortunately  Two million tins of baked beans are consumed here every single day, and up until a couple of years ago, almost all of them were Heinz baked beans, they were absolutely iconic. Then, somebody, or some committee, decided to take out some of the beans from each can, and replace them with liquid. I don't know anyone who buys that brand anymore

LOL! :D Another fantastic photo there my friend :)

I'm afraid I've never come across one of those, but you never know :)

I agree with Leon Jer :)

I didn't realise it was going to be such a big event John, well done :) Sounds like a great day

I did a whole 3-part series on it Nank, but the forum software changes and those at photobucket, have destroyed all 3 of them  I had originally intended to do similar series on all the Sheffield rivers, and actually spent 3 days in Sheffield, taking photos, and doing research for the second series, but after some previous BF software changes scrambled the text, broke some of the links, and stopped me re-editing it, I abandoned the idea :( When I was a boy, there were trout in the upper section of the river, and in the dams/mill ponds that took water from it, but that section is not far from Sheffield city centre, and it was lined with industry back then. The rivers here have been much cleaner over the past few years, until recently when privatised water companies started dumping millions of gallons of raw sewage into them  Back in my fishing days, I used to have to travel 2 counties away to find good rivers, but I did sometimes fish the River Rivelin in Sheffield. That also had a lot of cutlery wheels along its length, but in an earlier period, and it was the cleanest of the Sheffield rivers, as well as one of the prettiest

Water pollution is alive and well over here as well Jack , it’s a shame but as you mentioned for the most part and in most areas it has gotten better due to some Government agencies actually doing their jobs πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ Those photos are beautiful ! Due to the geography of where I live if I want to get into some decent trout I have to travel a minimum of 2-3 hours in just about any direction lol and lovely Lambfoot
Thank you Nank, I know that feeling! :D

Thank you for the kind words Dwight :) I think the firm did a great job on the stag on the SFOs we had from them, (unlike that on their standard ware, both before and since). Being able to get hold of some vintage Sambar helped a lot of course :D In the past, Sheffield was littered with specialist 'scale cutters', and the larger factories also employed their own. Today, I think Sheffield has lost the skills to cut stag as thin as they did in the past. Generally, they put it on thick, and then grind it to fit, which often removes what little bark there is on the poor quality stag they generally have access to. At least with that Damascus SFO, they fitted the stag to the bolster properly, which I specifically requested :) The reason for the extended bolster was that the lengths of vintage Sambar had originally been cut for table cutlery, and wouldn't have been long enough for a 'standard' sized Lambsfoot otherwise. I decided to add the thread to give it extra class ;) :D Your spectacular photos of these knives take them to another level :)

These are amazing !!! The extra length in the bolster isn’t noticeable !
🀣

Good morning Guardians, it's taken me a long time to get here! πŸ˜‚ I hope everyone had a great weekend :) It sure sounds like JohnDF JohnDF did, and I hope Pete and Greg are having a fantastic reunion :) Have a good week everyone, and enjoy carrying your Lambsfoot knives :)

Good morning Gaurdians !! Cut some flowers first thing this morning and now for some tea!! Have a good day everyone !! Mine will be filled with yard work and chasing a toddler!!πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚14580845-3889-4FE9-8D18-0DB5B35BCF6E.jpeg

Yes. It is a yearly fundraiser for Agriculture Youth Scholarships in the Galt area. My best friend was a local teacher and Ag supporter, and this memorial scholarship brings in thousands of dollars every year to support the kids. It brings out a pretty good crowd from the local farms and ranches, along with some pretty good corn hole players.
It sounds like a very worthwhile cause to support my friend πŸ˜ŠπŸ‘
That's a beautiful spot with the stone bridge and all the greenery. 🀠
I've been going to the Rivelin Valley since I was a small child John, it's a beautiful area. My great grandmother's sister lived to a grand old age in a tiny cottage, where she brought up 6 kids. Her husband was a grinder at one of the cutlery wheels along the river. There's a nice trail, which follows the river, from near its source to its confluence with the River Loxley, about 3 miles from the centre of Sheffield. I've walked it countless times, but the last time, it was the first time in more than 20 years. I don't miss much about Sheffield, but I do miss the "golden frame" which surrounds it.
Hope your week is off to a good start, my friend. 🀠
Thanks John, I am just down at Charlie's Cafe ;)
Good Morning Guardians... and Go Hawks!

I'm very sorry to hear that Nank :( It definitely got better here, during the 70's and 80's, but the water companies seem hell-bent in destroying that progress. As well as polluting the rivers (there are whole islands of sewage in London's River Thames, they are discharging so much filth into the sea, that there are complaints from our neighbours on the other side of the English Channel! Thank you very much for the kind words, I hope the drive for those trout is worth it :)

Thanks again, I think the bolster is twice the regular size, and about 2/3 of the length of a Barlow bolster

They're almonds roasted in honey :) The shop next to Charlie's Cafe sells them, so I sometimes nip in for a packet, as I did today ;) Thank you :)

Beautiful photo my friend :) Good luck with the toddler chasing! :D
My chasing toddlers days are long over but I remember them well. Good luck! πŸ˜„
I certainly wouldn't bet on myself in a toddler steeplechase! 🀣 They'd all outrun me! 😏
Good morning Guardians. Cool morning here. Can’t see it in this photo but the steam is coming off the water, a sure sign of Fall. 😊View attachment 1928280
Beautiful photo Todd :) A lot of folks here reckon we had the best summer for 50 years. Sadly, I missed it, and Autumn is definitely on the way, I came across some hazelnuts earlier, and the conkers (horse chestnuts) are getting ready to fall

I decided to combine some exercise with lunch, and walk down to Charlie's Cafe ;)

I collected some hickory nuts that fell on our deck this year. There weren’t as many as some years. From what I understand, hickory trees have a bumper crop every three years or so. This was clearly a down year for our trees.
I decided to combine some exercise with lunch, and walk down to Charlie's Cafe ;)

That looks really good Jack. That’s a really cool presentation for the fries/chips. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘
Steam coming off the water is beautiful... enjoy the wonderful weather and that beautiful Lambsfoot. 🀠
Thanks John. It really is, especially just as the sun is coming up. πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

So many long-standing trades and professions are disappearing, or long gone already :( I always tip Brian at least as much again, as his prices are so low I don't know how he makes a living, particularly as he lives about 50 miles away. His shop is actually down some stairs beneath the market. In the past, there was a gents toilets situated at the bottom of the stairs. They closed a couple of decades ago, but Brian tells me that not a week goes by without someone asking him about them! :D The original closure sign was even older, saying that the toilets would be closed over Christmas, and open shortly thereafter, which never happened
That's a really cool barber shop Jack. πŸ‘

I love to gather nuts and berries when I can Todd :) Since I moved to Leeds, I've struggled to find a good chestnutting spot, but I've found one now, so I'll have to keep my eyes peeled ;) Thank you my friend, I recall laughing the first time I saw those baskets :D
