Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

People love to "react" to things, hopefully it will return to normal there quickly enough.
Beautiful shot of your HHB and I'm glad you were able to get out for a bit of fun, my friend.

Congrats on the Charlie Lamb... It's so elegant. 🤠

You’re just showing off 😜that is a beautiful piece! Fantastic stag!!
And I'm gonna show off some more. 😁 Pile side of same masterpiece.
so what kind of idiot would want to lose that 'branding'?
Today's everyday run of the mill moron. They're everywhere.
Good morning Guardians. I'll be flying to Atlanta, then to Paris and then on to Warsaw tomorrow. Bus tour also includes Budapest, Vienna, Prague. Will more than likely be in touch only sporadically over the next two weeks so wishing everybody well now. Hope you all have happy trails
Have a safe journey Bill.
It’s actually stag that I sanded and polished.
I keep forgetting that. So beautiful.

Showing off, like I promised...

Thank you, I wish I could have done more of those Barlows, as I intended to. I did get as far as the sample stage for a second run, but the quality was very poor I'm afraid :(

So many long-standing trades and professions are disappearing, or long gone already :( I always tip Brian at least as much again, as his prices are so low I don't know how he makes a living, particularly as he lives about 50 miles away. His shop is actually down some stairs beneath the market. In the past, there was a gents toilets situated at the bottom of the stairs. They closed a couple of decades ago, but Brian tells me that not a week goes by without someone asking him about them! :D The original closure sign was even older, saying that the toilets would be closed over Christmas, and open shortly thereafter, which never happened

Same here! :D I have a number of vintage rulers myself :) Several members of my family, including my grandmother and great grandmother worked for the Sheffield firm, James Chesterman, who were famed here for their rulers, tape measures, and other measuring instruments. That's a cool pic, I like the leather case  I have them scattered all over the house, but I'll see if I have one in my desk drawer for a pic ;)

Great display of Sheffield measuring tools, particularly the steel calliper gauge, would love to have one of those now.

Nice pard'ner
Love that Lambfoot, John. Go get em Tiger!
Thank you, Gentlemen. :)
I had a fun day. There were 32 teams entered, and my partner and I ended up in third place. Pretty happy with that. I got to visit with some family and friends, had some really good pizza, and hung around and watched some young people that made me believe there is hope for the future... gotta love Ag Kids.

To end up with the results you did show a level of skill and patience sir! Well done !šŸ‘
Thanks buddy, that's a shame to hear. So many were produced here, you inevitably see them fairly commonly, so commonly that if they are expensive and/or in poor condition, I don't bother. Those cases commonly have advertising for other companies (that one does, but I accidentally covered it up!)

Here's the back of the old Chesterman factory, Bow Works, abutting the small River Porter or Porter Brook. I grew up just up the road, so I am very familiar with it. I can remember walk along that path when I was 2 or 3 years old. It is now student accommodation.

No ignorance there my friend. It would indeed

Hope he didn't wear you out too much! :D :)
That brook just looks ā€œtroutyā€ Jack! I could just imagine lifting a small brown trout out of there on a little 2weight fly rod of your preference!
John, do you carry all of your pocket knives in a slip of sorts ? I’m trying to get used to one but I’m struggling šŸ˜‚
I found this 6-foot, metal folding rule in an old wood toolbox my Dad had. It's a Lufkin, made in Saginaw, Michigan. I believe its aluminum, as its not magnetic and the only rust is at the steel pins. It doesn't feel heavy enough to be stainless, but it could be.

I love the wood on that 88 ! Oil those pivots on that measure tape and hopefully they will last you another 50 years! I love old Lufkin products !
Thanks Mike. šŸ˜ŽšŸ‘

Thanks Harvey. šŸ˜ŠšŸ‘

Beautiful Harvey, by that I mean the knife and image of course. 🤣🤣🤣

Thank you Jack. 😊

That looks so good! šŸ˜‹

I sure hope so. 😊
I hope you get a nice one. šŸ‘
Thank you sir !
I fancied something long, refreshing, and alcoholic! :D A large Kyiv Kicker will do the job! :D ;)

That truly is an impressive piece , is the stag pretty thin or thick on this blade ?

Rose Beast's less rosy side.
It looks like a well loved tool to me , rosewood is some hard stuff !
Thank you, Gentlemen. :)

Beautiful knife with some nice patina starting ! Yes you have got to love Ag kids! Around here most ag kids come from good grounded families that still believe in something and don’t care to work for what they have ! Well said sir !

Absolutely, Jack! It’s gonna happen, my friend! šŸ™‚
Hope you're having a great time together Greg :)
But "Tasties" is so descriptive. And the ear of grain in the lettering is so evocative of ginger. [scream]
LOL! 🤣
Looks like you have everything you need :)
Today's everyday run of the mill moron. They're everywhere.
They are! Unfortunately  Two million tins of baked beans are consumed here every single day, and up until a couple of years ago, almost all of them were Heinz baked beans, they were absolutely iconic. Then, somebody, or some committee, decided to take out some of the beans from each can, and replace them with liquid. I don't know anyone who buys that brand anymore

And I'm gonna show off some more. 😁 Pile side of same masterpiece.

I did a whole 3-part series on it Nank, but the forum software changes and those at photobucket, have destroyed all 3 of them  I had originally intended to do similar series on all the Sheffield rivers, and actually spent 3 days in Sheffield, taking photos, and doing research for the second series, but after some previous BF software changes scrambled the text, broke some of the links, and stopped me re-editing it, I abandoned the idea :( When I was a boy, there were trout in the upper section of the river, and in the dams/mill ponds that took water from it, but that section is not far from Sheffield city centre, and it was lined with industry back then. The rivers here have been much cleaner over the past few years, until recently when privatised water companies started dumping millions of gallons of raw sewage into them  Back in my fishing days, I used to have to travel 2 counties away to find good rivers, but I did sometimes fish the River Rivelin in Sheffield. That also had a lot of cutlery wheels along its length, but in an earlier period, and it was the cleanest of the Sheffield rivers, as well as one of the prettiest

Thank you Nank, I know that feeling! :D

Nank it's pretty thick. I was very fortunate to acquire it. Jack really hit a home run on these. He was on a roll of great SFO's before it all went sour with the maker.
Thank you for the kind words Dwight :) I think the firm did a great job on the stag on the SFOs we had from them, (unlike that on their standard ware, both before and since). Being able to get hold of some vintage Sambar helped a lot of course :D In the past, Sheffield was littered with specialist 'scale cutters', and the larger factories also employed their own. Today, I think Sheffield has lost the skills to cut stag as thin as they did in the past. Generally, they put it on thick, and then grind it to fit, which often removes what little bark there is on the poor quality stag they generally have access to. At least with that Damascus SFO, they fitted the stag to the bolster properly, which I specifically requested :) The reason for the extended bolster was that the lengths of vintage Sambar had originally been cut for table cutlery, and wouldn't have been long enough for a 'standard' sized Lambsfoot otherwise. I decided to add the thread to give it extra class ;) :D Your spectacular photos of these knives take them to another level :)

Good morning Guardians, it's taken me a long time to get here! šŸ˜‚ I hope everyone had a great weekend :) It sure sounds like JohnDF JohnDF did, and I hope Pete and Greg are having a fantastic reunion :) Have a good week everyone, and enjoy carrying your Lambsfoot knives :)

Yes. It is a yearly fundraiser for Agriculture Youth Scholarships in the Galt area. My best friend was a local teacher and Ag supporter, and this memorial scholarship brings in thousands of dollars every year to support the kids. It brings out a pretty good crowd from the local farms and ranches, along with some pretty good corn hole players.
That's a beautiful spot with the stone bridge and all the greenery. 🤠
Hope your week is off to a good start, my friend. 🤠
