Nice photo John, it it smoky there, or foggy?
Thanks John :) Yes, I've been very wary of banging it again  I had a good day though, I'm always tired when I get back mind. I remembered my Cornish pastie, as well as a nice apple for lunch, and succumbed to a doughnut with my morning coffee. I went for a haircut at Barber Brian's, with Tool Man, and as there were only the 3 of us there, we had a good old gossip about knives and guns :D We were talking about the change in men's hair fashions, during our lifetimes, and Brian told us an incredible story, from back in the 70's, which I thought I'd share here:

One Saturday, a man came in with two boys. He told the boys to sit down, and told Brian that when it was their turn to give them a No2 crew-cut, before leaving again. The lads had fairly long hair, typical of the times, and Brian was a little surprised, but the boys got in the chair, and he duly cropped their heads. When he'd finished, the man still hadn't returned, so he asked them when their dad was coming back, assuming he was shopping in the market. "He's not our dad." One of the boys told him.
"What, who is he then?!" Asked Brian, wondering what was going on, and when he was getting paid.
"We were just walking down the street outside the market, and he stopped us, and said he was taking us for a haircut." Came the answer!

Great story Jack. That could never happen these days. Kids would never listen to a stranger and the actual parents would likely sue the guy or the barber. 🙄
I’m big on the Big Un. Nice,

A pleasure hearing the Barber’s story, Jack. That doughnut image is nice and appealing. Looks like. You ‘re having an A-OK day. What’s the deal with the Cos player, lol?🤣

Good Morning Guardians💂‍♀️
Beautiful Fall photo Harvey. 😎👍

That's priceless. How many times have we dreamt of doing something like that? 🤣
Poor Brian probably never got paid, but is probably lucky the parents weren't banging down his door.
Fantastic pictures from today's journey. 🤠
Nice to see the super heroes finally getting some free time to enjoy the market. 🤠:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks pal, nice-looking Big 'Un my friend
Thank you, Jack. :)

What a strange story! 😱 I was telling Brian about a kid I went to school with, whose folks moved to South Africa for a few years in the early 70's. A policeman saw his hair touching his collar, and frog-marched him to the nearest barber! 😱 Brian said, "It wasn't just in South Africa..." 😁

I'm pretty sure that's the same guy I've seen dressed as both Spiderman and Deadpool before! 😁 There's also an old guy who walks around either dressed as a BOAC pilot, or as a ferry captain for another long defunct company. Leeds Market is full of crazy people! 🤨😂

That's a beautiful photo my friend 😊👍

Jack Black Jack Black I got a kick out of the barber story :)
Spalty is a superstar Steve :) I'm glad I was able to remember the story! 😁👍
That's priceless. How many times have we dreamt of doing something like that? 🤣

Poor Brian didn't get paid, but it's a good story!.😁 There's a family I know who live near me, nice enough, but a little bit strange. Both parents have thick, long, curly hair, so their kids have got it in spades. The eldest lad (about 18) has a ponytail halfway down his back, and he looks like he's wearing a Davey Crockett hat, and the younger kid has an equally ridiculous hairstyle. I've known them for years, and everytime I see them out, I shout, "Do you want me to take those lads to the barbers?!", Etc. Just the sort of thing old fellers used to say when I was a kid! 😂 It certainly amuses me more than anyone else! 🤣👍
Fantastic pictures from today's journey. 🤠

Nice to see the super heroes finally getting some free time to enjoy the market. 🤠:thumbsup::thumbsup:
Thanks John, they've probably been detained somewhere for a while! 😁👍

I could see that for sure. I bought this one for day hikes and quick weekenders due to its lightweight. It has turned more into my overnight bag for quick trips haha. Great bag that packs alot of capability for its size 🙂 Best, Greg

Sounds like a useful bag. I loved mine, and would probably still be using it if it weren’t for the problem with the lining. (Pictures below.)

I can certainly see the reason for making things lighter, but overall I think the move to lightweight packs was one of the many con-tricks from the outdoor industry, particularly at the cheaper end of the market. Some of them are downright shoddy. If you're ever over here again, and want a big pack, I have a bunch of good, well-made old 'uns, some still have the labels on! :D It's not often I use a big pack these days. Even the Gyrfalcon I bought a few years ago, was largely a waste of money  The last day pack I bought (after the Maxpedition Falcon II), was by Karrimor SF, and I'm really pleased with it. Karrimor were a good British outdoor company years ago, but then they were bought by some phone-shop spiv, and they're garbage now. It turns out that Karrimor SF are actually a separate company though

I have to admit, I would be a terrible ultra-lightweight backpacker; with a few exceptions, I never worried all that much about lightweight gear. 😁

That’s a good looking bag, Jack. Do you use a backpack on your normal everyday outings, or do you carry something else? (I seem to remember you having an over-the-shoulder type bag when we met up in Sheffield, but maybe I’m misremembering.)

I honestly forgot I still had this thing stashed away. This is my old Osprey that I carried pretty much daily for years (bought it in high school, carried it all through college and then to work everyday for several years after that).

This why I stopped carrying it. It might not have been that bad, except the lining would come off in tiny black flecks that would get all over anything you put in the bag.

These are the 5.11 backpacks I use now.

I bought the green one first, maybe 9-10 years ago. It’s their Rush72. (I believe they’re designated by how many day’s worth of stuff you can pack in them. 72 = 72 hours.) Its a pretty big bag at 55 liters. I like it for overnight/weekend travel.

I got the tan one (Rush24, 37L) a couple years later, and I just bought the black Rush12 (24L) this year. That one gets used the most right now, mostly for hauling around snacks and stuff for the kids. 🙄😁 They’re well-made, sturdy bags with lots of pockets and interior organization.

I skipped dessert, and treated myself to some beers! 🤣

Arguably better than dessert. 🍺

I'm surprised I'm not in therapy recovering from my mother's cooking!🤣

🤣🤣

It never gets old! :cool::D:thumbsup:

The bit near the end of the song (“So now I’m prayin’ for the end of time…”) makes me laugh every time. 🤣

First fire of the season this morning! Yeah yeah I know it was early... but I only had a couple...

Great pic, Dwight, and what a great place to sit back and relax!

Cold pizza and Secret Aardvark, a match made in heaven! :D Thanks for the tip Barrett btb01 btb01 :)

BkvLVsX.jpg

Great combination, isn’t it?

Do we have a consensus on cold pizza?! What does everyone else think? I usually like it both ways, but that one was definitely a lot nicer cold :)

I never used to eat cold pizza when I was younger, and couldn’t understood why people would eat it that way, but now I get it, at least for certain types of pizza. I really like eating leftover thin crust pizza cold, especially pepperoni (with some Aardvark, of course). Thicker style pizzas (like Chicago or Detroit style deep dish) I prefer to reheat in the oven.

I agree, 5.11 makes good kit. I have a 72 as well. Also like their long gun cases.

Evening Guardians! Sounds like your trip to the market went well Jack. Sure enjoyed the barber story. Looked up and read about some of the climbers you mentioned. Your mentioning that the Hunter Bar area of Sheffield probably had more climbers than Everest Base Camp I found interesting.

I love how the old dude is staring at him like he's trying to figure out what kind of insect he is.
