Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Love the wood on that Lamb.   👌

Thanks, Leon. It’s Rosewood, I believe from an SFO that Jack had done. It was a gift from him. Here’s a photo with it where you can see the knife a bit better.

I agree, 5.11 makes good kit. I have a 72 as well. Also like their long gun cases.

The 72 was the only size I had for a while, partly because, despite being a 55L bag, it doesn’t feel that big when you have it loaded with just a day’s worth of stuff.

Sounds like a useful bag. I loved mine, and would probably still be using it if it weren’t for the problem with the lining. (Pictures below.)
That's a shame Barrett, I had a pack that happened with, really liked it otherwise too. It wasn't too pricey, and I carried it almost every day for 10 years, so I figured I had got my money out of it
I have to admit, I would be a terrible ultra-lightweight backpacker; with a few exceptions, I never worried all that much about lightweight gear. 😁
I know what you mean, I was never obsessive myself! :D
That’s a good looking bag, Jack. Do you use a backpack on your normal everyday outings, or do you carry something else? (I seem to remember you having an over-the-shoulder type bag when we met up in Sheffield, but maybe I’m misremembering.)
Thanks mate, if I am picking up some some shopping, I usually carry a Lowe Alpine 45L climbing sack. They made great packs years ago, but this one was a disappointment, and quickly relegated to shopping bag - a rather expensive one  I generally use some form of satchel though, of which I have quite a few. I recall you had a 5.11 pack when we met up Barrett, but I can't remember if I was carrying a vintage French Army side-pack I used to carry a lot, or a 5.11 RUSH Mike courier bag. The latter was an expensive mistake, (too many pockets, not enough space), and quickly got dropped.

The side-pack I've carried most over the past 5 years is a Helikon Tex Bushcraft Satchel, which I find a good size, though I think it's overpriced for such a basic low-spec bag.

I also recently picked up a satchel by Maxpedition's precursor, Magforce, which is OK as an everyday bag, though the capacity is limited

This why I stopped carrying it. It might not have been that bad, except the lining would come off in tiny black flecks that would get all over anything you put in the bag.

These are the 5.11 backpacks I use now.

It's nice to see your old Osprey Barrett, and that's a great Lambsfoot and 5.11 stable pic :) My apologies for not taking any photos, but maybe I can grab a couple later :D
I bought the green one first, maybe 9-10 years ago. It’s their Rush72. (I believe they’re designated by how many day’s worth of stuff you can pack in them. 72 = 72 hours.) Its a pretty big bag at 55 liters. I like it for overnight/weekend travel.

I got the tan one (Rush24, 37L) a couple years later, and I just bought the black Rush12 (24L) this year. That one gets used the most right now, mostly for hauling around snacks and stuff for the kids. 🙄😁 They’re well-made, sturdy bags with lots of pockets and interior organization.
They look excellent my friend, and possibly a little lighter than Maxpedition? I've had a couple of day-packs I really liked over the years, and a great climbing sack with a lot of memories, but found it difficult to replace them, with constantly changing designs, and a general decline in quality in the mainstream outdoor market.
Arguably better than dessert. 🍺
😂
I never used to eat cold pizza when I was younger, and couldn’t understood why people would eat it that way, but now I get it, at least for certain types of pizza. I really like eating leftover thin crust pizza cold, especially pepperoni (with some Aardvark, of course). Thicker style pizzas (like Chicago or Detroit style deep dish) I prefer to reheat in the oven.
I shall ever remain grateful for the Secret Aardvark my friend! :D
That’s great! 🤣 Nice photos from the market, Jack.

I wonder how much that backpack slows him down? 🤣
Thanks pal 😂
My kind of town.😂 Thank you Jack.
🤣
and that's really all that matters. 🤣
😂:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I have a lot of 5.11 stuff too :) Cool pic Pete
I love having breakfast for dinner! :D
Evening Guardians! Sounds like your trip to the market went well Jack. Sure enjoyed the barber story. Looked up and read about some of the climbers you mentioned. Your mentioning that the Hunter Bar area of Sheffield probably had more climbers than Everest Base Camp I found interesting.

View attachment 1931444
Yes, a good day, thanks buddy :) I knew a lot of exceptional climbers, but being a mediocre climber myself, it was always a struggle to find people I could actually climb with! :D I got on very well with the youngsters, but found the older ones more interesting. Ron Fawcett was perhaps the first climber here who trained, but he still liked a drink and a cigar, and was just a nice guy to spend time with. Climbers first started moving to Hunter's Bar when I was a kid in the 60's, there was cheap housing then, and easy access to superb climbing to the west of Sheffield. Living there became a bit of a rite of passage for many climbers, though it is quite gentrified today. I remember spending a day climbing at Stanage Edge with Jim Perrin, an older climber and an excellent writer, and his two younger companions, Martin Crook and Andy Newton. We split into pairs, and I enjoyed doing some routes with Andy. The plan was to stay out overnight in the Peak District, and climb again the next day, but they were so keen to visit Hunter's Bar, that we ended up going back into Sheffield, and going to the pub! :D

Thinking back to my climbing days always stirs up bitter-sweet emotions, since I'm not able to do it anymore, and no longer connected to that community :(
That is an awesome tale!
Thanks Dwight, I'm glad I managed to remember it :D
I love how the old dude is staring at him like he's trying to figure out what kind of insect he is.
😂

Nice photo Barrett :) That's my Indonesian Rosewood SFO, the African Rosewood one has an unpolished blade :)

Good morning Guardians, I hope everyone is OK, and that you've made it through the week in one piece. I was supposed to be meeting up with my pal today, and re-jigged a few things to fit in with his schedule, but he's let me down again I'm afraid. I'm going to do a few things in the house, and then probably head into town, maybe call in at Charlie's Cafe on the way ;) I hope that you all have a great day, and that you're looking forward to the weekend :) I'm carrying an Old Friend today :)

Good Morning Guardians.
I'm looking forward to a very busy weekend. Tonight, we will be going to the high school's home coming football game. Tomorrow we will be having the family over for a nephew's birthday party. Then on Sunday we will be having a football watching party with some friends as I watch my Seahawks beat their 49ers. There should be lots of BBQing and fun and games.

That Lambsfoot looks fantastic in that beautiful horn, my friend. 🤠
Hope you have some fun things planned for the weekend, Happy Friday.
Thanks pal, I had it made up, perhaps as much as a year before the '17s, but it's the reason I chose horn for them. After we got the Guardians knives, it kind of went into semi-retirement though. I doubt I'll be doing much really, but maybe something will come along :)
Good morning Guardians !! It’s been a hectic couple days around my little farm here , nothing bad at all just super busy! Haven’t gotten to spend much time on the World Wide Web! I hope everyone has a great day!
Carrying this little guy this morning!

That sounds like a fun-packed weekend John :) I've just applied some beeswaxy goodness to the horn on my Lambsfoot, but I bet bacon fat works even better! :D Great pic

Old Snubby.
The old soldier

How's your day going folks? I walked down to Charlie's Cafe, and then went into town for a few things. Quite a heavy police presence for some reason, including surveillance guys will long-lensed cameras I'm envious of. Thought it best not to take pics!

Sounds like a great weekend of fun and football, John.

Jack, that is one seriously perfect looking croissant! What do you put on yours?
A beautiful horny 'foot there as well! ;)

Thanks Jeff, they really do a great job of them there. I usually have a little jam on my croissant. At Charlie's Cafe, they do quite a range, including ones with apricot jam, and chocolate, pistachio cream. They used to do a black one, which was vegan too! That one is plain, but they're quite sweet, and I don't usually have anything on them there :) Thanks for the kind words on my Lambsfoot too :)

That the guy you mentioned previously? At least Charlie’s Cafe will put a smile on your face. Have a good day, Jack.

It’s almost over my friend.

Good Morning Guardians💂‍♀️

Looking forward to my weekend also. Half day of classes today and then a buddy and I are going to hangout at the Dam Bar. We are going to solve some of the world’s problems over a few beers and hotdogs. Tomorrow we are getting together with friends to do some boating and then grilling for dinner. Sunday I’ll be watching the Bucs play the packers. Have a great weekend everyone! 😊👍90FF8DB5-3F38-44A8-9EB0-DAF7B1B80AEC.jpeg
