Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Good afternoon, Guardians.

It has been a bit of a spell since I checked in here. Just been quite busy overall.

I noticed a couple of you fellas sporting my slips from last year and it appears that some of the stitching is fraying or coming loose? I don't anticipate failure, but it if becomes worse, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I will either repair it or send you a new one. The ones I made this year have been stitched differently and should not experience any issues whatsoever. One must strive to always get better in one's craft and I am no exception to that concept.

Well, today I had a hankering for a chip butty, especially since a shiny new bottle of Henderson's Relish arrived in the mail. I figured with the ingredients I had on hand, I could make a suitable butty and give Henderson's a try. While I was at it, I thought that documenting my time in the kitchen might make for a suitable post here.

I started with a couple of large(ish) red potatoes.

After I washed and trimmed the unpleasant bits from them, the '18 ebony Lambsfoot made short work of paring them into sections more conducive to a butty.

I then fired up the gas. (Apologies, I didn't realize my stove was so dirty)

Filled a pan with a generous amount of oil.

Fried the chips until they were a nice dark golden brown.

A couple of things that I did differently with this rendition of a chip butty is I toasted the bread, applied a nice slice of sharp cheddar, and added a couple of generous dashes of Henderson's.

It was quite tasty, especially washed down with a bit of Red Ale.

Wow Dylan, what a fantastic post! :) You really took some great pics  I'm just about to hit the hay here, after a long day, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to sleep thinking of your delicious-looking chip butty ;)

Thanks, Jack! That stag is looking nice and gnarly!

Thanks Jack! But...........

.......these Stags are looking awesome! :D

Thanks guys, one of the side-effects of Wright's not being able to get hold of recently shed Sambar is that the stuff they do get hold of, from pre-export ban Sambar which was cut for cutlery hafts, already has a fair bit of age :)

Dylan, I happened to post a pic yesterday that showed the slip you made last year, so I fear I might have instigated this part of your post. ;) One of the knots in the stitching IS a bit frayed, but I don't think it has any structural implications. Do you think it would be a good idea for me to simply trim off the frayed "ends"?

Morning Guardians, hope everyone has a good Friday, and an even better weekend :)

Nice knives, Jack & Ron!:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Stellar stag, Jack!:thumbsup: Are those new knives, or examples of stag that passed through your hands at some point in the past??

Not my typical clean-cut Lambsfoot regrind. Ancient Lambsfoot mod.15, loosely inspired by the recent Ancient TC Barlows.

Thanks GT :) They are all examples of sambar stag from Wright's, but all knives I own :) At the top is my latest wee staggy, which I've had a few months, the one below that I got last year I think. Both these knives I've ended up with as a result of picking knives up for other people! :D The next knife is a candle-end, the only one I've seen with sambar, which I spotted by chance at the factory last year. Finally, a "Senator", which Wright's re-handled for me, and which I've had a few years :) Great pic of your Union Jack my friend, sounds like it has had an adventurous day ;)

Dang it Dylan, now I'm hungry! Nice post of your Lambsfoot in action and a great looking sandwich. I'm sure Jack will approve. :D

I've gone and made myself hungry again by coming back here and reviewing my post. Thanks for the compliments, fellas.

Well Dylan I’m becoming more of a believer.

Most excellent! The dark side awaits... :D

Not the first time I have used this expression today, "Be still, my beating heart!" Look at all that exceptional Stag! Very fine assortment, Jack.

Yay! First beer of the weekend! :)

Sorry, GT. I must have missed this.

I do not think you should have any structural issues as I typically pass the thread back and forth a few times before trimming. You should be able to trim the frayed edges without ill effect with some small sharp scissors. If for whatever reason the leather starts to separate, please do not hesitate to send it back to me (on my dime) and I will repair it. I have opted to use a saddle stitch with these recent slips and I think the stitching is far more secure. But I will not know for sure until folks have pocketed them for awhile.

I'm not surprised Dylan, I might sneak back for another look at that chip butty myself! :)

Thank you my friend, enjoy your beer, and I hope you have a fine evening :) Another great pic there

That really is above and beyond Dylan :)
