Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I don't understand why there isn't really Dave. My doctor is incredibly complacent, but I've had enough of it now. I'm going to demand he refers me to a specialist or submit a complaint. I have numerous back problems, including sciatica, a slipped disc, and spondylitis, and the last time I had any X-rays taken was 1977! It's over 20 years since I was last referred to a specialist, and that was by a different doctor. This guy just sits there shrugging his shoulders, and waiting for his retirement (next year)o_O The folks here on The Porch have been far more helpful in diagnosing my medical ills than he ever has been! I'm currently (finally) getting some specialist treatment for my arthritis, tennis elbow, multiple foot problems, and sleep apnea, but I got that IN SPITE of him, he actively tried to block me being referred to a rheumatolgist, for example, even though a consultant at the hospital had sent him a letter recommending I be referred to one. I've had a persistent cough for nearly a year, and have only just been referred to a chest specialist because I insisted on seeing a different doctor at my practice, and now the waiting list is 21 weeks! Such is the current state of the British Health Service I'm afraid :(
:eek:Totally not cool:thumbsdown: What the H@@l in this day and age! This sounds more like the Doctors in the 50"s They ruined my Mother by prescribing Valium over and over until she was addicted big time. Let's hope you find a young aggressive DR that's not in it just for the money.

Sounds like it's past time he retired.
I find myself wanting to wax political, but restrain myself.

Thanks Dave, when I have told the younger medical specialists about him, (my tennis elbow injury is actually about 8 years old for example), they have been horrified

The last comment on this today :) Can you not change family Doctors?

He's at a big medical practice, but even though he is my doctor, I can choose to see other doctors instead, so that is what I have been doing for the past six months, and will continue to do until he's gone. About a year ago, some guys in The Porch were talking about Sleep Apnea, and I thought I had a lot of the same symptoms. I asked him to refer me for tests, and he initially dismissed my request, but I insisted very assertively. It turned out that I did have Sleep Apnea, and was stopping breathing 25 times an hour. The consultant I saw wrote to him to ask him to refer me to a rheumatologist as she thought I might also have fibromyalgia. His reaction to this letter from this younger, female, and better qualified doctor ("Who the h**l does she think she is?!") was the last straw for me. Unfortunately, he is the senior doctor at the practice, and had noted on my medical file that I was NOT to be referred to a specialist, so the less senior doctor I saw was reluctant to go against him, but I insisted they referred me. As a result of that, I was diagnosed with a number of other medical conditions, in addition to ones my doctor had previously ignored, and getting a lot of help that I should have been getting years ago. Unfortunately, this specialist care has come too late in some instances, or at least I have suffered for years because of my doctor's complacency. For example, I have a number of foot problems, including broken metartarsels in both feet, planter fasciitis, arthritis, pronation, bursitis, etc. The foot pain was so bad a few years back that I could barely walk, which meant I had to pass on the renewal of two walking guides I had written in the 90's, and obviously it made life difficult for me in lots of respects. I also suffered two tendon injuries seven or eight years ago, which was a serious disability. Combined with the foot problems, it led to me gaining weight, as it was difficult for me to exercise. The tennis elbow was agonising, but my doctor just told me rubbish about it. Now, after all these years, I'm seeing foot specialists who are helping with the first problem, and getting treatment and physiotherapy for the tennis elbow, but it's really come too late for that. And the quack who has sat there shrugging his shoulders every time I've seen him for the last 15 years doesn't even use the same health service as the rest of us here o_O Anyway guys, thanks for your concern and support, but we should get back to talking about our good Lambsfoot knives rather than about my bad feet! ;)

It seems to be the opposite here. Doctors are so wary of lawsuits, they will send you to a specialist whether you need one or not.
Sorry, back to knives: Here's a couple months of patina progression. :)

Good move

Nice to see that patina progression :) I'm getting some patina on my ebony '18, but I've still not used it much on fruit. Time to get some strawberries I reckon ;)

Jack Black Jack Black I hope you get some relief for your back soon. Mostly, because I hate to hear you having to live with the pain. But also (and admittedly selfish), because it’s depriving us of more pictures of the beautiful countryside you share with us on a regular basis.

Get well soon!

LOL! Thanks my friend :D I am certainly looking forward to going out for a hike again :)

Jack, Sorry to hear that your back is giving you trouble. Just think of all the great times you have had that have led you to be in this condition though! I hear climbing can be hard on the body. ;):D What's that old saying? .... "If I knew I was going to live this long, I would have took better care of myself" I can relate to that saying quite a bit.
I do wish you a speedy recovery, my friend.

I had this one with me yesterday.

I think the reason my '17 Guardian patinated slower than my '18 was that I was eating apples in '17 instead of grapefruit.
Plantains will patinate your knife so fast it will get black scum on the plantain segments.

Thanks a lot pal, it's very much appreciated :) Motorbike-riding when I was young, along with sleeping out on the ground, and carrying heavy backpacking loads probably haven't helped, along with a lot of other stuff  Great pic there

Strawberries are great for patina. So is hot sauce (cutting open plastic packs).

Yes indeed :)

Really? I can't remember the last time I cut up a plantain, I'll have to try it sometime :) Wonder what it's like on D2, it'll patina, but not at all easily?

Have a good day Guardians! :)

I don't cut a lot of plantains either, but I think it's the green ones that cause the patination and brown ones not so much.

Cheers Jer, worth remembering

When I was a kid, my parents had some Jamaican friends, and I can remember, about aged 4, searching for plantains ('green bananas') in Sheffield market, so that 'Auntie' Carmen could make some traditional Jamaican biscuits :)
