Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

I get on really well with my posties, probably the only person who slips them some cash now and then, but their managers stink! 🤨

That’s good, Jack. Not surprising about the management, unfortunately.

Terrible mate, I was talking to mine earlier, she's too young to remember that there was a time when posties here worked 5 days a week, and were finished by late morning :(

I bet it was a great gig back then. That schedule sounds ideal! For a short time, back when I was a paratransit driver, I covered for the company’s most senior driver while he recovered from a heart attack. His shift was 4 am to 2 pm Monday through Thursday. The 4 am part wasn’t much fun, but getting done at 2 pm every day and having a 3 day weekend was great!

Not an oath per say but the USPS does do a good job or as well as any in my experience at getting the mail and packages out. Every piece of mail that is recieved in the station goes out that day. First class and priority mail is not to be delayed. Rain, snow , or shine I never dared to bring mail back to the station unless it was undeliverable ie. person moved or mailed to an unkown address.

I agree, Paul. They do a great job (especially compared to the competition).

I have pretty much had to deliver parcels on every holiday minus Christmas and Thanksgiving. That big website you speak of is a huge client to the USPS and have an agreement with them to do Sunday Parcel deliveries in many cities around the country.

Yeah, we’d had those packages delivered on Sundays before, I just didn’t expect it on Easter Sunday. 🙄 Seems like the USPS doesn’t do as many of those deliveries any more, at least around here. Ours are usually delivered by that company’s own vans/drivers now.

I was getting some things done around the house yesterday including installing a ceiling fan in my son’s bedroom. It came with a remote control so the wiring was a little different than I was used to but I was pretty sure I had it right, but it didn’t work when I finished hanging it. I followed all the instructions for programming the remote but nothing worked. I was getting a little frustrated and figured I must have wired it incorrectly. I decided to leave it and take it down today and try again. As soon as I woke up this morning a thought popped in my head, before I even got out of bed, the switch! 😄 I was so focused on the remote control that I forgot to turn the wall switch on after I finished wiring it up, flipped the switch and…BINGO!
I’m definitely not an electrician! 🤣

That’s great! 🤣🤣

Ah yes... I'm so uncultured.:(

It’s ok, John. We like you that way. 😉🙂

I hope everyone is having a great weekend :) I'm just going to be catching up with some things at home I think :) Got some Damascus in my pocket ;)

Beauty of a lamb, Jack!

Bearing in mind I waited in 2 days for it, and the price (over £70 plus shipping), I wasn't very happy by the state of my Tilley Hat when it arrived. It had just been thrown into a plastic bag, and probably been sat under a pile of parcels. I know it's a casual hat, but I don't want to look like Wurzel Gummidge, and while I don't mind owning a hat, which after a few years, looks like it's been trampled by an elephant, I want to see both the elephant and the trampling! 🤨

0_worzel-1.jpg

It's also at least a size smaller than my other Tilley, which is supposedly of the same size, and I fear that it will shrink still further when washed. Looking online, a lot of people have the same complaints, doesn't sound like the firm is what it was :( They've even taken the screens out of the vent holes, and you don't get the little booklet anymore, even the guarantee has changed  I'm not sure I'm going to bother with another :(

I decided to have a walk down to Charlie's, and get a coffee, and something to eat. The coffee and pastries at Charlie's are exceptionally good, but I don't consider the food there the best, I'm afraid. The sandwiches are OK, but their menu could be better. To be fair, it's probably led by what people want to eat. I had a vegetarian breakfast, without eggs, as I'm not a fan. It was OK, but not great. I don't like the turkey sausages they use for some reason, and the vegetarian sausages are the type that even vegetarians don't like, the healthy kind! With vegetables! :D They may look a little like sausages, but they taste absolutely nothing like them. I could have got better food in town, but I didn't want to go that far, and I did enjoy spending an hour in Charlie's :)

Having a muffin was probably a bit greedy :D

Jack, Some really great photos of a few of your outstanding LF knives especially your HHB.

Good morning Guardians. Cold and rainy here in NC but it made for good sleeping last night.😌 Back with my HHB in the pocket.

🤣 Too funny 😃
Reminds of a time when my motorcycle quit running. I had the tools out, and the gas tank, seat, and sidecovers off in a parking lot, before I realized that I had inadvertently hit the kill switch when I was making an adjustment to the tank bag 🤣

Boy you all weren’t kidding that using it with food will quickly help develop a patina.

You'll get some really nice colours if you cut a steak with it :)

No, it's privatised here now :(

Yes I know a lot of older posties and ex-posties. The ones still working are just trying to stick it out until retirement, though the management have plans for massive redundancies. I didn't mind the 6am-2pm shift when I was younger, but 4am is an early start

My dogs like to bark at the mailman (he comes right up on the porch!) but I always remind them that the mailman is a real-life superhero. One of the keys to making the modern world work.

I had a job that included internal mailroom duties 25 years ago or so, and found that the delivery companies were all sort of reliable-but-not-completely, the airline cargo services were terrible, and the small charter plane companies we worked with were incredibly creative with their excuses. Meanwhile, the good old USPS just got it done, all the time.
I have been chased up the street by many 🐕 lol. Usually not a big deal but a couple did get me. Weirdly the smaller dogs are the most aggressive.
That sounds like a service the American people can be proud of Paul :) It has not been like that here for a long time unfortunately :(

It's got a lot worse since then :(

That's rotten :( There's no mail on holidays here. There are a lot of courier firms here, all of whom make Royal Mail look efficient. The big river site have their own drivers.

Yeah, they have never really been below that here. I usually wait until there's a sale or discount offer on, but with less firms selling them currently, that might not be possible in future. I do get value for money out of them though, some I've had for 10 years

:D

It's a cookery term, relating to preparation before you start to cook, but it basically means, 'A place for everything, and everything in it's place.' Just like Grumble Towers! 🤣

Duane @sitflyer was a Chef in the Navy, I sent him this Velcro patch :)

Looks tasty Daniel :)

Nice to see that one again Leon, nice pic  That was an interesting project :)

Hope you have an easy day Jack.

We are lucky to have the mail service that we do. I enjoyed working there for the 5 years I was there but I would never go back.

Well if you are having a hard time finding the 5.11, reach out. I can find them at about 10 stores in about a 30 mile radius.
With Ramadan approaching, I always keep an eye out for exotic treats in some of my local shops ;) I particularly like Medjoul dates

I have never had one. I spent 3 1/2 years of my life in the middle east and can't believe I haven't. They look pretty good!

Trusty ebony hard at work.

That looks delicious. Sausage, mash potatoes, and beans. I would scarf that down in an instant.

I delivered newspapers for 5 years, as a boy, I can relate Paul! 🤨
Hope you have an easy day Jack.
Thanks buddy, I've just been taking care of some chores n the house. I've just got a couple of other things to take care off, and I'm going to hit the sofa! :D ;) Hope you're having a great day yourself

Thanks again my friend, I'm hoping I'll be OK, though I wish they were that available here :) A pal used to bring me pairs of black canvas Carhartt work pants back from the US, but it was a time when I put on weight quite suddenly, so I have 3 pairs with the labels still on, too small for me! :D 5.11 have won me over though, I wouldn't go back! ;) :D

Really? Give them a try sometime :) When I lived in the Middle East, I lived under olive groves at one time, but didn't start liking olives for another 20 years! :D
That looks delicious. Sausage, mash potatoes, and beans. I would scarf that down in an instant.
Thanks Paul, I had some potatoes that 'needed eating'! :D ;)

I have this A. Wright Standard, Ebony, Barlow, Lambfoot on my desk this morning ready to go in a pocket after I get my jeans on. I know it's not technically a 1/3 of the handle bolster Barlow but it's longer than a standard bolster and A. Wright calls it a Barlow so, Barlow I'll call it. Anyway it's a nice knife and to boot, it came as a gift from Dan sf fanatic sf fanatic .

Very nice Ed. It being a gift makes it nicer than it already was. Have a great day my friend.
