Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Cut a warm steak or pork chop up. Insta patina. Like John says an apple a day will do it too.
Yeah, if you want a fast patina, meat and fruit work well (strawberries are pretty good). My Hartshead Barlow hasn't really cut much of either, but got that steadily :) I've also found that fruit acid can remove lighter patina, and a bad habit I have when I'm out hiking, if I've used my knife on fruit, is rubbing the blade with my bandana, and streaking the patina, which gives a tram-line effect, which looks a little ugly. Better than leaving the fruit juice on the blade though :D What did Priest Vallon know, he only lasted another ten minutes?!
Hope your day is going great Jack. Hard to top those two lambs. Hope your day is filled with adventure!
Thanks Paul, a fairly steady day :)
5.11 pants are the best !!
Glad you're a fan my friend, I must have 20 pairs, I never wear anything else  Seems to be a bit of a supply problem here at the minute though, not sure what's going on, a coup[le of UK dealers seem to have dropped them :(
You are taking to the vegetarian diet well. I was grocery shopping the other day and was amazed at the vegan options for everything. Never noticed before but never looked either.
I'm amazed! :) I was buying some of the vegan stuff in a supermarket last week, and I saw the till-girl looking at me strangely, as if she had something on her mind. Eventually, she asked me, disbelievingly, if I was vegan! :D I told her, quietly, "Shhh, don't tell anyone, I'm the fat, working-class one, with the sense of humour, and I've eaten all the others!" 🤣 Might have to go to a different supermarket after Lent ends!😁;)
Woke up a little late today. Overindulged at the VFW last night. Nothing crazy but just enough to make you sleep like a baby. Driving into a bigger town today to go snoop around at Scheels (large sporting goods store.) I am determined to start fly fishing this year and want to see what kind of stuff they have. Going to grab a bite to eat there but not sure what I'm craving yet. Got the stag dam lamb today. Have a great day Guardians.

That sounds like a great day, I wish I could come with you! :) DamLamb is looking good :)
Happy Saturday Guardians!

Hey Mike, speak of the devil! :D How're you doing buddy? :) Cool pic there  I have a couple of Smith's watches, including my grandfather's solid gold 25-year watch :)

I noticed the mention in the Tilley talk. Disappointed in your experience, and I agree with you on the direction they're headed. Hopefully I have enough of them to last me, so I can fondly remember the good times ;)

I'm doing well, and realize I've been absent a while! Have been missing the Guardians thread, so figured I'd remedy that ;)

Your grandfather's watch is gorgeous! Does it still run? Shame they're no longer made in the UK, but at least they still ship from there.

It's great to see you back Mike, I hope you're still having some great adventures :) A real shame about Tilly, guess I bit the bullet too late. I was reading some posts on a forum, where long-time fans were decrying their decline. I don't fancy buying a hat that might shrink 2 sizes when it's washed! Why would anyone throw away a reputation like they had?! :(

Thanks mate, do you know, I remember to wind it up every year or so, but there've been numerous years when it hasn't been. It's never been cleaned or oiled, and is around 75 years old. It keeps perfect time :) By comparison, I have a Cartier Tank, I was gifted in 1988. To be fair, it's been some years since I had it cleaned, which is a very expensive process, but if it isn't cleaned, it stops working. I don't know if I'll bother again, I never wear it anyway! :D My grandfather was the most macho man I ever met, and if he were still alive, and knew that the bracelet on his watch is too small for me, because I have bigger wrists, he'd either have a heart attack, or challenge me to a fist fight! 🤣

By coincidence, I was looking at the Wiki page yesterday Barrett, seemed appropriate  So US posties aren't required to take a daily oath?! ;) 😂

I guess not. I think Jakeywax31 Jakeywax31 used to be a mailman, we could ask him. 🙂

A couple years ago, I had ordered something on that big website a few days before Easter, fully expecting to get it the following week. We were outside on Easter morning, the girls having just finished hunting Easter eggs, when the mailman pulled up to deliver the package. I couldn’t believe they had them delivering mail/packages on Easter Sunday! I felt awful and apologized profusely (not that it was really my doing, but still). It’s like retail workers having to go in on Thanksgiving Day, just so idiots can save $100 on a new TV. 😡

Oh, I've seen it before Barrett. I did start writing an analysis of my feelings towards Ricky Gervais and his career, but while I thought The Office was masterfully scripted, and Extras had its moments, in truth, given a choice between watching them again, and kicking him down the street like a football, I reckon I'd get more amusement from the latter! :D ;)

I just realized (after confirming with a quick search) that I’ve posted that clip before, in this thread, when you mentioned a postman handing you a card that said you weren’t in. I even made the same comment, almost word for word, about it being surprisingly Porch-friendly. And my memory’s usually pretty good, too! 😵‍💫

I agree about The Office, and I really liked Extras, too. Everything else he’s done has been hit or miss for me, certainly nothing to live up to those early successes, but as a person? Well, there’s a certain four-letter insult he’s quite fond of using (very much not Porch-friendly) that I think is quite applicable. 😉🤣

Nope. I don't care for the extra thickness it adds to the pocket, and the extra steps it takes to use the knife and put it away.

Only slightly ironic, given your hobby of making them. 🙂 I mostly agree with you, and rarely use them. And I love the pocket-worn look regularly carried knifes get.

Snowy and wet today. I’ve got this rosewood Lambsfoot with me.

Very nice pair Bob!
So I removed the coating of ren wax I had on my sheffield and am going to have it as my daily user every day until it starts to patina. I don’t want to do any type of forced patina. Just planning on using it, wiping fingerprints off it, etc. No idea how to let a patina form naturally or how long it will take or what things to use it on that might lend themselves to a good patina.

I searched the forums and other than forcing a patina I haven’t yet found anything on just letting it happen. I assume it’s as simple as just use it, wipe it down so it doesn’t rust and avoid putting oil or wax on the blade that would otherwise prevent a patina at all. Please let me know if it is that simple.
As others have mentioned, food makes for a quick non-forced patina.

The average person has no idea how hard it is to give up carbs, and i'm talking processed carbs, not whole carbs. We have become addicted to them, and the food industry knows it.
Yep! :(

Oh yeah, I think you might be right Barrett :) I get on really well with my posties, probably the only person who slips them some cash now and then, but their managers stink! 🤨

Terrible mate, I was talking to mine earlier, she's too young to remember that there was a time when posties here worked 5 days a week, and were finished by late morning :( You're not going to get a job, certainly not in retail, unless you're prepared to work Sundays, and every other day of the year

My memory is TERRIBLE Barrett, but it isn't THAT terrible! ;)🤣🤣🤣

That's a good photo buddy :) Hope you're all having a nice weekend :)

Now that's how you get a good patina! The limes do a good job on the knife blade, too. ;)

LOL! :D I doubt I buy 10 limes a year though, and I only buy those to avoid scurvy! :D ;)

I like about mine is the way it keeps the knife vertical in my dedicated knife pocket
I use GT's safety pin trick to keep my knife vertical in my pocket... works the charm and it's super easy to pull the knife out of the pocket and slip it back in.
Only slightly ironic, given your hobby of making them
Right? But I knew saddle makers that didn't ride horses, so... 🤣
