Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Well, I certainly hope I wasn't too annoying during at least two of those Guardians knives. I've bought/traded/sold (mucked up at least one of my own GAW's 😬) a lot here at BF and while the vast majority of folks are super easy and honest to deal with, there's occasionally one who makes you seriously question ever doing it again.
No, you weren't mate, and nor were the vast majority of people :)
Thanks, Jack, for not giving up. This thread is a testament to your perseverance and we all appreciate you!

I love the tins you sent them in!

With me today again.

Thank you :) Excellent pic
Just and FYI, I did the same.
Many thanks :)

A pleasure mate, in a few years, you won't be able to get any sense out of me! :D

Both Lockwood's and Elliott's have interesting histories. One of Lockwood's first factories was on Arundel Street, which is only a stone's throw from where they ended up:

Prior to that, they rented space at the old Butcher Works of Wade & Butcher (lots of photos in my Sheffield Factories thread)

So much history! I love seeing those old buildings where some great lambs were crafted.

The weather has really changed here, it's cooler, and today we've had some rain, and it's been quite windy. Dressed appropriately, I headed to the market, picking up a coffee on the way. Soon after I arrived, Good-natured Gravel arrived, and Tool Man's beady eyes immediately lazered-in on the small 'Wilson's Pork Pies' bag Gravel had in his hand. With barely a word, the greediest man on Leeds market, had snatched the bag, sliced up the contents, and was slipping them down his gullet, slathered in HP sauce! Half the pie had gone before he paused for breath!

I showed around the GL-24, and everyone was very impressed, Tool Man in particular. I was not entirely surprised when Boring Ray couldn't offer anything in the way of information about mid 20th century Polish elevators 😣

Big J arrived on a vintage ladies bicycle, wearing a very smart LL Bean shirt. After Tool Man had finished sneering about his choice of transport, J announced that he had a couple of things for Tool Man's stall. The photo shows Tool Man trying to obtain them for as little as he possibly can! 😒

Note the Petticoat Guard!

Barry The Original Ted is always engaged in some long-term manufacturing project, which he updates us about, in great detail, each week. There've been guns that don't fire, a similarly useless cannon, a crossbow that doesn't work, a knife made from soft steel, and other such follies. The latest project, at least six months in the making, is a painted chest, where a plastic 'zombie' and a rubber spider spring sideways when the lid is opened (there was another plastic figure, which didn't do anything). He demonstrated it to a couple of old girls he was trying to chat up, and they were suitably unimpressed! :D

I decided to treat everyone to a chip butty and a can of Dandelion & Burdock, but when I returned, Tool Man just moaned about a lack of gravy. To which he got very short shrift! 🤨 Unfortunately, I didn't get a photo of my new Lamb with the snack, since Tool Man was scarfing chips so fast, I'd have gone hungry if I'd paused to get my camera out!

Good afternoon Guardians !

We have goats on our property helping eradicate Buckthorn and other undesirable plants and weeds which have taken over our property. They are voracious animals and seem to enjoy their jobs. They even climb trees .

Thanks for the Market report Jack 👍🤠 That first pic of Tool Man looks like he's gone to pork pie heaven 🤣 Your GL-24 🐑 is in fine feather 👍😎

Wow, this post is pure gold. Intentional or not, I can't stop laughing! 🤣🤣🤣 Absolutely love the pics you included as well. Are there any of Boring Ray?

Glad you got a few chips yourself!

I can't believe what I've been missing in this thread.

Been on a diet lately, so not nearly as tasty as Hatchet_Jack Hatchet_Jack 's burger. 🫤

Just wanted to drop in and congratulate all of the Guardians on the double milestone.
I still carry Jake 99% of the time.

Good to see you here! Your HHB is looking well-used.

LOL! :D And not a single interesting story from any of them! 😖😁

I’d be disappointed if Boring Ray didn’t live up to his moniker. 😉😁

Too right! :eek::rolleyes:👍

I should’ve sent Tool Man a couple chip butty stickers. I’m sure he has a sticker-covered toolbox somewhere he could’ve slapped one on. 🙂

I guess his other knives are based on designs by A. Wright & Sons! 🤣 Michael May originally bought all Trevor's old stock and parts, so he kind of inherited the pattern. I'm not sure if Wright's make the parts for him now, like his other Lambs, if he still has old stock, or if he makes them himself. I remember when Trevor produced the pattern, I thought it looked awful, and still feel the same. I don't know how you think it compares Dan, but personally, I find the classic Lambsfoot frames, particularly the subtly curved Swayback, VERY ergonomic :) Great discussion point my friend, and I would love to hear thoughts and opinions on the pattern, particularly from folks, like yourself, who have actually used it, which I never have

That is a bit of an odd design, isn’t it? Seems to me like it would be less ergonomic than the standard swayback Lambsfoot pattern. To confuse matters more, I’ve noticed that on his website, Michael May refers to the swayback pattern as a “Barlow,” which is obviously is not. 🙄

I will say, I recently handled a Michael May Lambsfoot, and I was impressed with it. I know he gets his blades (and other parts?) from Wright’s, but the grind and finish of the blade on this knife were as good as some of the best I’ve seen come out of that factory (the best being the previous Guardians knives), and the fit and finish on the rest of the knife were quite good. Could have just been a fluke, or perhaps Mr. May is particular or demanding about the blades he accepts from Wright’s, I really don’t know, but it was a nice knife.

I have never been a fan of Tolkien, but the translation intrigues me Dylan, be interested to know what you think  Great pic

Not a fan of Tolkien?! 😲 That’s ok, Jack, nobody’s perfect. 😉😁

A double lamb day for Market Day.
View attachment 2642291

Dang, Kurt! You go walking around town totin’ two Albers Lambs like that, folks are gonna start calling you “Diamond Jim”! 🤣

When the 2017 Guardians Lambsfoot was in the mail, a number of folks drove me absolutely mad with the tracking, despite my having warned everyone in advance, that I had no special powers to intercede with USPS, or any other postal service! 😖 A few guys contacted me multiple times a day, and one was so insistent that his knife was 'lost', that against my better judgement, and the conditions of sale he'd agreed to, I sent a replacement. When the two knives arrived on consecutive days, he decided he'd keep the free knife 🤨

That’s a shame. 🙁 I imagine going that direction across the pond with so many of those packages added to that sort of trouble. I think a lot of us here in the US get a bit spoiled with how quickly we receive knives (and other things) that we order, whereas folks like yourself in Europe, or Australia or wherever else might be more accustomed to having to wait for packages coming internationally and, you know, actually exercise some patience. 😉 That is, of course, no excuse for the kind of behavior that you describe, but I wonder if it’s at least part of the reason behind it.

Good evening Guardians, as it is here now. I hope everyone has had/is having a good day :) It's been a great week for the Guardians, with 2 important milestones, plus a personal milestone for Bob, and the first Guardians SFO since 2019, so it annoys me to have to post a reminder about this:

This thread is dedicated to one pattern, the Lambsfoot pattern, and that is the only pattern we discuss, and post photos of, here. There may, exceptionally, be a reason to mention another pattern, but there better be a good reason for it, and if discussion becomes centred on that pattern, please ensure you nip that discussion in the bud.

I am grateful for how this thread is moderated, but over the years, I have seen lots of threads locked because there was too much off-topic discussion in them. Which is why it says this in the introduction to this thread: "We have enjoyed some wide-ranging off-topic discussion here, but the Lambsfoot has to remain the focus of this thread, so please try and bear that in mind. If you want to have an extended discussion about an off-topic issue, take it to Carl’s Lounge." There's nothing wrong with talking about something other than knives, the friendly chat is one of the things that makes this thread so special I think, but if there are a lot of posts, which don't mention the Lambsfoot at all, potentially, the thread is being endangered.

I really don't like to have to remind people about this, so please cut me some slack, and if you haven't read post #1 in this thread, please go and read it now

Thanks

Jack

Apologies for my part in any off-topic diversion, Jack. I’m certainly guilty of going a bit too off topic from time to time.

Hey, I recognize that place! 😁 I believe you and I had breakfast not far from there, and it’s right around the corner from the Wright’s factory, too, isn’t it?

Afternoon Guardians. Hope all is going well for y'all today. Had a rain shower this morning and it's much cooler at the moment. GL-24 🐑 again today.

I’d like to see Tool Man swing a leg over the top tube on a non-ladies’ bike. 🤣🤣

Well that’s… interesting. 😁 (I once had a former boss accuse me using the word “interesting” whenever I thought something was ridiculous or stupid. Usually it was related to some harebrained idea of his, and he wasn’t wrong.) 🤣

That’s interesting (and I mean genuinely interesting, not the kind of interesting that annoyed my boss 😁) about the goats, a creative solution to that particular problem! Yours Guardians Lamb is looking good!:thumbsup:

Been on a diet lately, so not nearly as tasty as Hatchet_Jack Hatchet_Jack 's burger. 🫤

Hey, that still looks pretty tasty… unless that’s cauliflower rice behind the meat there, in which case I’ll have to dial back my praise a bit. 😁 Seriously, though, kudos on the healthy eating. I could certainly do with some more of that. 🤣 And your Lambsfoot looks great! 😎

Another great market report and some nice pics as usual !
Thanks Jack 👍
Thank you Steve, pretty quiet day down there

Great idea with the goats, and great pics too Steve :) My mate Matt was in the Isle of Man last week, and showed me a photo of a weird Manx goat he saw, with 6 horns! Turns out they are actually sheep rather than goats! :D

Wow, this post is pure gold. Intentional or not, I can't stop laughing! 🤣🤣🤣 Absolutely love the pics you included as well. Are there any of Boring Ray?
Thanks mate, I'm sure I can find a photo of Boring Ray, but I try to avoid taking them for several reasons; He is so white he messes up the colour balance and light metering on my automatic camera; He invariably has a stupid expression on his face; Since he had his eyes lasered, some years ago, he squints and generally has his eyes closed! 😣

Here he is talking to Slimline Scott, physically displaying the feeling the rest of us often get while talking to Slimline Scott ;)

Glad you got a few chips yourself!
