Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

There's a new kid in the neighborhood. Meet Rosa. A girl-next-door type, she keeps things simple with plain rosewood covers. Still, she's undeniably pretty. And look at her curves!

screened porch screened porch if the birds you're seeing are Northern Cardinals, during molting they will sometimes look bald.
I was going to say, "when is molting season?" but I can google it.
And I did. Looks like this isn't molting season, and the pictures of molting cards don't look like what I'm seeing.

After hearing your experiences, I googled "cardinals lose their crests" and this is one link that came up:

Is this the kind of "monster" you're seeing??

Neither I nor Black Jack have seen anything like that!

I first noticed the roundhead cardinals last year, and all I got googling was somebody asking about them and somebody claiming that the photos of roundheads were just high-hats with their crests flattened. For a while I had the impression that the roundheads were out-numbering the high-hats, but I was just struck anew at seeing a roundhead the other day (so I'd forgotten about them, so they can't be that common).

It's only just occurred to me that they might be a different bird entirely. Also just occurred to me I should ask our local nature center or bird sanctuary. Duh.
I just googled cardinals and similar birds. Maybe it's a Summer Tanager?

What I'm seeing has a nice red cap of small feathers. Maybe R8shell is right about the summer tanagers.

Or maybe I should lay off the absinthe/mowers' mushroom duxelle.

I think r8shell r8shell nailed it. The southern tanager is "our only crestless bird that is all red". Now I can stop worrying about crestless cardinals and start worrying about what the tanagers are eating if their habit is to snatch insects out of the air and migrate across the Gulf of Mexico.
Snatching insects out of the air reminds me of the speed and accuracy possible with a lambsfoot blade.

I hope you're over your Christmas scourge, Jack Black Jack Black .

Yep! It’s Wednesday already! :D Hope y’all have a great day! Jack Black Jack Black Jack, I hope you get better real soon my friend

I can't let that ebony lamb go by one more time without a response. So utterly black. So utterly beautiful.

Jack Black Jack Black I sure hope you are improving and will soon be up and about.fullsizeoutput_d66.jpeg
