Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Hello, lads. I'm a youngin' from across the pond and was very surprised that I skimmed over this thread for the few months I've been a member of the Porch. Was thinking about how I wanted a new Lambsfoot and this thread caught my eye. Nice to see some fine knives being displayed here and equally quality chatter. If there are still some left of the 2019 Guardian's Lambsfoot then please sign me up, Jack. Looking forward to being a newly added Guardian for 2019. :p

Happy New Year Jack! Looking forward to receiving the prize, most appreciated.

Sorry for the delay Russell, I'll hope to get it to you soon

Happy New Year Guardians
I hope to join your ranks in the coming year

After all your great contributions here John, I think you deserve a New Year gift, PM me your address, and I'll get a Lambsfoot off in the post to you

Happy New Year Guardians!!! :thumbsup::D

My 2018 knife of the year! :D:D:D

This week, the lambsfoot in my pocket is Black Jack, my 2018 ebony:

It's certainly the best hardware store I know of here GT, and a nice independent, family-owned business :)

A fine Lambsfoot my friend :)

Happy New Year, Guardians!

Cool pic Vince, that's a long time to hang onto a lucky penny my friend :)

Well the AC lamb I posted in the "what knife are ya toting" thread this morning was meant to be here. I didn't realize I'd posted it there until I got home tonight.

Happy New Year Guardians. See you in 2019.View attachment 1046560

I think I've probably done that myself at some point Dwight  Excellent pic :)

Boy, the Lambsfoots swept the Knife of the Year thread. (not that it's a competition, but if it were, the Guardians won) :p

Happy new year!

Incredible that the Lambsfoot has travelled so far, so fast :) I feel bad that I wasn't there to tuck that thread in for another year :( Thanks to all the Guardians who posted, I really am honoured :) Lovely pic to see in the New Year Rachel

Ended the year with this in my mailbox.

Anyway, Hope all you Guardians have a Happy and Prosperous New Year!
All the best.:)

Nice pic of your Lambsfoot with an 80's icon David :) Sadly, changes to the UK firearms laws rather killed 'Practical Shotgun' :(

It was a mixed bag. Both knives were made well enough. But while the lambsfoot was a nice surprise, the tackler was considerably less so. I was expecting a wharncliffe, but the blade is sheepsfoot.

Hope you feel better Jack. I seem to have caught something as well this Christmas. :(

That's pretty rubbish Christian, having a photo of one knife on their website and sending you a different knife o_O Have you been in contact with them? How is the fit and finish on the Lambsfoot? Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it my friend

Thanks mate, sorry to hear you're ill too, hope you're feeling better soon

My New Year's Day mid-day meal for 27 years now.
Happy New Year, Guardians!

Looks delicious Vince

Well then, take that person off your next years guest list.:rolleyes:;)
norovirus.jpg

Well she's an adult, and works in a Care Home, so she really should know better. While not so seriously affected herself (maybe due to her age, or perhaps a certain resilience from her job), she knew she was ill, and had already infected her father, who wasn't there, but who was seriously ill. I'll certainly have a strict screening process next year. Norovirus has become a serious problem here, making thousands ill, and killing around 80 people a year, but I've managed to escape it until these past few months. Really don't need it again! o_O

There's a new kid in the neighborhood. Meet Rosa. A girl-next-door type, she keeps things simple with plain rosewood covers. Still, she's undeniably pretty. And look at her curves!

Ay Caramba! Rosa is looking good Christian

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL MY FELLOW GUARDIANS!!!!

I carried the 2018 Lambsfoot into the new year.

I think @r8shell nailed it. The southern tanager is "our only crestless bird that is all red". Now I can stop worrying about crestless cardinals and start worrying about what the tanagers are eating if their habit is to snatch insects out of the air and migrate across the Gulf of Mexico.
Snatching insects out of the air reminds me of the speed and accuracy possible with a lambsfoot blade.

I hope you're over your Christmas scourge, Jack Black Jack Black .

Stellar Lambsfoot content my friend :D Thank you :)

Hope your recovery is swift, Jack.

I hope you are feeling better Jack!!
Happy New Year to you, and to all the Guardians!!

Get well soon our friend. :)

Glad the worst is over. She should have known better. Had to tell my son he shouldn't come to Christmas dinner (with his wife and my newest grandchild) because we had colds. Saw them at New Year's, though.
To your health....

After all your great contributions here John, I think you deserve a New Year gift, PM me your address, and I'll get a Lambsfoot off in the post to you
While it's not necessary, I know better than to turn down a generous gift. Thank you very much, PM on the way.
And might I say, it is great having you feel better and back to posting. Hope you continue to mend and are back to 100% soon.

Thanks a lot Ron, I still feel rough to be honest, not having eaten for several days probably doesn't help. Nice to see the other side of your AC, and I hope the weather gets better there soon

Good day, Guardians! This beauty, which is my first lambsfoot, arrived just in time to ring in the New Year on December 31, and I began 2019 with it tucked away in my pocket. Here it is on New Year's Day, after cutting some turkey!

Welcome to The Guardians my friend, you've arrived in some style :)

Thanks Vince, sorry to hear about your Christmas, hope you're all well now, but that's the right approach my friend. I remember having to cancel a family Christmas because one of the kids had chicken-pox. Sometimes people are too cavalier about passing on infections

I just hope, that after all your time hanging out here, you actually LIKE the pattern John! :D ;)

Glad to see you're on the mend Jack.

How is the fit and finish on the Lambsfoot?

I'm pleased as Punch. There's a noticeable gap between the backspring and one of the liners, but other than that the fit and finish is pretty good. I lucked out and got a knife with covers of dark rosewood, my preference. The blade profile has a more curved tip than the angular ones you sometimes get, so that's another plus. The pins (wires?) are flush with the covers! And this particular specimen has no blade droop nor drop, the spring to spine transition forming a continuous curve. I've had more expensive knives that didn't get this detail right.

45833040634_3ec2c32eb7_c.jpg

This knife is smaller than the typical lambsfoot offerings, and smaller than the knives I usually like to carry. I got it because it was the only one that came in the classic swayback pattern. Yet the smaller size doesn't seem to be much of a handicap. It feels more substantial than every other 3 1/4" knife I've owned.

Walk and talk is good too. Some will find it too strong, but I want my springs stronger rather than weaker.

Just a lovely piece of Sheffield steel.

I'm not sure what's not to like, it seems like a knife that I would love. But even if I end up hating it (unlikely), it would still mean a lot for me to own it.

I think you'll like it John ;)

You're gonna love it, John.

Hope so :)

Thanks Christian, I'm still pretty rough, but better than yesterday definitely

I'm glad that you got a nice one my friend. Those knives are Wright's bread and butter, and at their price point, they can't afford to spend a huge amount of time on fit and finish (most of their customers care more about the price), but I still think that the standard Rosewood model (3 1/2" is the standard, or medium, size) can be a very nice knife, a great user, and fantastic value for money. Wright's use a slightly more rounded tip on a few of their knives, but that looks like their standard Lambsfoot pattern. The pins are lengths of brass, which are snipped off, hand-peened, and then ground with the covers, which is how they traditionally make knives in Sheffield. With stag, because of the uneven surface, they just hammer the pins, or smooth them off in the same way where that is possible. The action should improve still further with age (I'm sure you've already flushed out the joints) :) Really glad you like the knife Christian, and I dare say that after you've carried and used it a while, you like it even more. To use a Lambsfoot is to love it. Welcome to The Guardians my friend ;)

I really lucked out with this one. Looking it over, and knowing my own idiosyncracies, there's a very good chance that were I at Sheffield in person, I would have picked out this exact knife had I been given a choice.

Knife is flushed and ready to go. Even worked the knife open and close a couple of hundred times to improve the action. Standard fare whenever I receive a new slipjoint.

 It's gonna be a tough hill to climb though. These two are what I like to call the Jack Black Special. The lambsfoot is nice, but it's no Castor. ;)
