Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Ahoy Guardians!

It being November 2nd, I'm sure you thought the spooks and scares were long past - but not so! I got back from Jekyll Island, GA yesterday evening, started working with some of the, few, pictures I took, and decided these needed to be posted before the last eldritch remnants of spooky season slithered back into their cyclopean subterranean caverns until next year's All Hallow's Eve. šŸŽƒ

I took "Endurance," my stag-handled C. Johnson Western Works lamb, over to Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, GA to visit the burial site of "Little Gracie Watson" - one of Savannah's most prominent ghosts! Gracie is alone in Savannah, as her parents moved back to the U.S. Northeast where they originated, lived the rest of their lives, and were eventually entombed - her father, in Wardsboro, VT and her mother, in Menands, NY - so I figured she could use the company, poor kid!

Little Gracie died in 1889, aged six, following a severe case of pneumonia. Her death devastated her father, who had come down to Savannah to manage two of the areas most well-known hotels. Her father commissioned a local artist, John Walz, to carve a life-sized sculpture of her exact likeness based on a photograph - unique in the history of Georgia's funerary monuments.

Over the years, many people have claimed to see the spirit of Little Gracie dancing in Johnson Square in Savannah - the site of the now demolished Pulaski Hotel, where she grew up.

110 years after her death, in 1999, the iron gate surrounding her grave was erected in order to protect her monument from her growing masses of visitors. She may not have her family with her, but she's certainly far from alone - with many visitors making a pilgrimage to her grave on her birthday and leaving toys, ribbons, bows, flowers and other offerings a little girl would be likely to appreciate.

I did not leave Endurance with her, as the last thing we need is the ghost of a little girl running around with a long lambfoot knife! 😱

More to come - stay tuned! šŸ‘»

Beautiful knife and interesting story.šŸ˜

I stand corrected Jack. It is surely brass, mine are.šŸ‘šŸ»
I thought so Bob, brass was really Trevor Ablett's signature, in his later years at least. I do like the look of copper, but it is very unusual, and I don't think you'll find copper bolsters on an old Sheffield knife
It's a broke piece of a artifact. Use to hunt arrowheads in the plowed fields after a rain. Osage Flint is a local Flint that is tan or a golden color before it was heat treated. After heat treatment it turns a reddish color usually.

šŸ˜Ž Pic šŸ‘šŸ‘šŸ¤
Fascinating David  I have a couple of arrowheads that friends here have sent me, and I think they're wonderful :)
I sure do Jack- VERY cool!
Thank you SO MUCH once again! šŸ˜„
A shame we couldn't get out of the other end of the graveyard Duncan! :D It was a pleasure to be in your company my friend :)
Have a great day Jack and nice pic !
Thanks a lot Steve :)
Thanks for your very kind comments Jack as usual. We had about 15 couples show up and the kids started pouring in. Them little buggers hit the jack pot! No pun intended.

One mighty fine LF knife!
LOL! :D Thanks Charlie :) When I called round at Matt's, his kids were away at their grandmother's. He told me they already had plenty of candy, so I took the 2 bags of lollies to town, with us, and handed them out. Mainly to kids, but a lot of grown-ups with a sweet tooth too! :D
Good day Guardians !

I hope everyone is having a good day :) I enjoyed catching up with my friends, over lunch and a couple of pints, and Wolfie even made a brief appearance :D  Also today, I received an incredibly thoughtful package from Jeremy sbh06 sbh06 , who had very kindly offered to make me a new wallet :) I have several pocket slips of Jeremy's, and his skills are amazing. I'm afraid my photos, taken this evening, really don't do the wallet justice, but it is beautifully crafted :) He also sent me some Virginia peanuts, and since I love nuts, I am really looking forward to trying them šŸ˜‹ Thank you once again, Jeremy

Very nice Jack. Extremely thoughtful of Jeremy.šŸ˜

I had 3 fruit trees turn up last week. Even though I only have two acres I’ve done my best to cram it full of edible things. I’d have to count but it’d be over 30 fruit trees now (about 12 of those different fig varieties - I love figs!).

Jujube is one of my favourite fruits - think a very sweet apple without the juice and a date pip instead of an apples core. This one is to cross pollinate with my other variety and improve fruit set.

Also got a loquat to replace the one our pet sheep ate - after eating about $200 worth of trees he went to a ā€œnew homeā€.

Lastly, a wampee. This is a new one to me, Flynn found the catalogue of an online shop I use and came to me one day asking for a wampee. I thought why not? Apparently an Asian relative of citrus that produces grape like fruit.

Grand old lamb Jack, and wish you luck with your orchard.

Problem, in the USA, jujube is a candy.500px-Ferrara-Candy-Jujubes.jpg
