Jack, you should stop going with (and showing knives to) such ham fisted characters!Awwww
Great pics guysHope all you Guardians are managing to keep warm. Coldest the day of the year here so far, but it's not crazy cold!
I forgot to put my Lambsfoot in my pocket when I made my morning run to the post office
Worse news too, my sample 2019 Guardians Lambsfoot is at Wright's Knife Hospital at the moment because some butter-fingered idiot I know asked me if he could have a look at it, then snatched it out of my hand, tried opening it before he even properly had hold of it, fumbled it, and managed to throw it eight feet in the air with a hard landing on textured concrete!
Fortunately, the half-open blade was OK, but the mark side took the impact

Admirable stag lambsfoot, Dwight!
The Man Jack is very "manly", GT.
It's a great mixture of handsome and ruggedness.
And smells of cedar and leather!![]()
Lol... Yes!!!
I see an Old Spice commercial coming![]()
And maybe Irish Spring! ("Made for a man....")![]()
We definitely have a "man" theme going today...
Now all y'all are sounding like my younger brothers 60 years ago when they'd try to shift the blame my way when they got in trouble for something!Gary started it!![]()
Thanks for the avatar info and the stag compliment, Dennis. Thanks for all your comments, Gary!
My wife would tend to agree with you, but everybody needs a hobby and a goal!
The young cowboy was just one I found, nobody I know. But I did grow up on horses, and many a hunting and fishing trips on horseback.

Beautiful! Looks like some great stag on that one!![]()
Rollicking rosewood lambsfoot with the sausage it sundered!
Thanks for the kind words @cigarrodog.5K Qs Thank you Gary. The reflection of the sun on the patina makes the Man Jack even more handsome
Thanks for the positive feedback, Vince.I would say articulate and prolific.![]()

Jack, I may have been in Real Time (aka "caught up") briefly on Sunday, but I don't have the persistence to stay in that state. Here's a little systematic sample I did for this thread this morning after my hands got too cold to continue shoveling snow. I counted how many days elapsed during the first "decade" of pages in each "century" of pages in this thread. Results:...
Thanks for all the kind words GT, are you in 'Real Time' yet?!![]()
Enjoying seeing your Man Jack, and am in anticipation of its replacement
While I missed my hike, I did at least get some exercise todayI walked into town, and went to the Royal Armouries

Thanks Gary!Man I have really missed a lot of posts today.
That’ll teach me to miss a day again. I did get a new specimen in the mail this weekend that I hope to get some photos of in the morning. It’s an Eyewitness Bigun. It is carbon with steel liners and pins. I’m not sure of the handle material, but it’s man made. It is textured and I almost think it’s Gum Fuddy. I’m not sure but I know someone here will be able to help. All I’ll say is it’s ugly but it’s a well made solid knife!

My first Eye Witness and it’s definitely not Ironwood!![]()

Captivating Bexoid Lambsfoot examples, Ron and Jack! They've been using it in Sheffield since before WW2 Ron, maybe earlier. It could be that the actual composition of the material has changed, and the Sheffield cutlers just call it that, I really don't know. I have a couple of bookmarks for vintage plastic links, but at least one of them is no longer, but I'll edit anything I find into this post. For now, here's my TEW Lambsfoot with Bexoid scales

It seems Bexoid was originally manufactured by the British Xylonite Co. in 1937, it was a Cellulose Acetate. I suspect that the Sheffield cutlers still use the term for any similar plastic. Bexoid was used most famously on British Army Clasp Knives, as a cheaper replacement for Buffalo Horn![]()
Beware the Renegade Horn Lambsfoot on Wheels!
Such dazzling wood, Dwight!
RALF is representing all the excellent ebony lambsfoot knives among the Guardians!...
But, the 2018 ebony is in pocket, and RALF will help us through! Green tea again this morning.

Thanks for your thoughts on horn "flaws" and for sharing pics of your transcendent translucent oxhorn, Dylan!...
Here are a couple of pics I took a little while ago that show the inclusion near the bolster.

No need to apologize, GT. I always appreciate your efforts and contributions, especially knowing how much time it has to take. I also know that this thread is moving a lot more briskly these days and I have a hard time keeping up as well.

Thank you GT. It's ironwood.......Such dazzling wood, Dwight! What kind is it?
LolWell, they are highly trained "runway discs".

Afternoon ladies and gentlemen.
Obviously we've all seen Jack's prototype but by virtue of the fact that my nationality places me in close proximity to West Yorkshire, I have the honour of introducing to you all...
The Guardians 2019 Lambsfoot.
God willing when you open the envelope you will find this very smart and swanky Altoids sized tin.

And a comparison with my rosewood I've been toting for the past few days.

Well everyone this is one very nice knife. I've only ever bought off the self before and this is my first semi-custom and I'm mightily impressed. It's shaving sharp and the pull is just right; solid, positive but no nailbreaker.
The covers are not matched but are beautifully finished both sides. A very minor difference in thickness but I only noticed that when I'd taken a close up shot and the pins are perfectly flush. The bolsters set everything off nicely; I think Wright's should use them more often.
It actually feels slightly heavier than the large rosewood I have so this is no wall flower but a proper working knife.
Apologies for the pictures, I thought I'd take them in daylight but it's -1c outside. Also, I didn't realize until after I'd taken them that I hadn't cleaned off small amounts of polishing compound on the knife, so if you think you see blemishes on the bolsters it's not, it's polish.
I missed the last two Guardians knives, but I'm really glad I participated in this buy as this is a knife to cherish.
And lastly, a great "Huzzah!" to both Jack Black, whose been so kind and generous in arranging all this, and of course to Ashley at Wright's who obviously really Really knows his onions and is a true craftsman.

Impressive elephant armor!
Captivating Bexoid Lambsfoot examples, Ron and Jack!Xylon is Greek for "wood", I think, and Wikipedia FWIW claims that Xylonite was an early name for celluloid. Does Bexoid have any of the nasty properties celluloid has come to be known for?

Is that one in the top picture one of yours, H herder ?
It's in good shape, the blade is nice and full.
The catalog prints are excellent as well.
I've spent a fair amount of time today looking up old lambsfoot and Sheffield knives. Aside from mostly striking out, the one thing that struck me is that despite many of these available knives being rather old and the blades worn down considerably, they largely are still in possession of rather stout pulls, excellent snaps, and no wobble.
A testament to their build quality, they were made to work and made to last a good long time. Traits that have carried over to this day and are found in my Wrights collection. Makes me rather honored to be a part of Wrights' continuing legacy.
