Guardians of The Lambsfoot!

Since I have never ordered anything that was to be delivered from overseas, approximately how long should it take to receive my knife from A Wright & Sons to South Carolina? Looking forward to getting it!

Today I went with good old ebony

Nice photo, Kevin! What is Hot Water Music?
Thank you. Hot Water Music is a book by Charles Bukowski , a bunch of short stories written in the 80's. It's not for everyone but I dig his writing style.
Btw, that damascus Lambsfoot looks KILLLLLER!

Nice!
Time for some playin'!
There is a band named Hot Water Music too. I don't think I have ever heard them though.... I'll have to fix that.
Thanks for the complement, Dennis.

I sure do like your iron maiden Kevin but I can't remember if it's an M or a W.
Iron Maiden....that brings back some memories.

It all depends on how you look at it, if it's a M or a W. ;):D

Jack does a great job of packaging these knives he sends out. I have no doubt that this one's passage was difficult...starting in the UK, then to LA then to Puerto Rico and finally here. My camera and computer were not cooperating but, I did get a few photos, however the shots of the Damascus blade didn't turn out well. This Snakewood Damascus Lambsfoot is just gorgeous, I like everything about it! Thank you, Jack Black and Ashley, at Wright's

While I've known about this since the beginning of the year (and was even the legal witness to the deal - I just happened to be there when the papers needed signing), I now have permission to publicly share the news that A.Wright & Son of Sheffield have had a transfer of ownership. John Maleham has decided to go into semi-retirement, concentrating on his own small company J.M. Tools Ltd, and the good news is that the new owner of the firm is Michael Harrison, John’s old Work’s Manager (and Ashley’s dad). This has led to an extremely smooth transition, and should mean a bright future for the firm, and for Ashley and Michael. The first knives to be made after the change of ownership were our 2019 Guardians Lambsfoot knives :) I'm sure you'll all join me in wishing Michael good luck at the helm of Arthur Wright's, and to Ashley and the other cutlers on a great future

Nice to see the new gaffer still isn't afraid to get his hands mucky! ;) :D

Also the best of luck to Keith, who worked for Joseph Rodgers & Sons, before coming to Wright's, upon his retirement

I have written about their 'seconds' in the past, which were sold out of the factory door, or to dealers, and as a consequence, ended up back on the market. John M told me one bloke used to come to the factory every week to buy them. I've had seconds myself, which were OK, and I got them at a decent price, usually the problem was a crack in the stag or horn, but I don't think that they were good for the reputation of the company. I recently suggested to Michael that they mark the seconds in some way, so that they can't be passed off by unscrupulous traders. Michael told me they're no longer going to sell them, they'll either be scrapped or recovered. The bloke I mentioned above came to the door, and when Michael answered it, he asked if they had any seconds. Michael told him they don't make seconds! I think the Guardians knives have made a big impression at Wright's, and been a reminder of what excellence can be achieved. In my opinion, the quality of their general range has already improved over the past couple of years :)

That's exciting news, Jack! Interesting about the seconds, as well.

Riding a bike is definitely a young man's game in this country

Having driven a bit over there, I can see why! Some of the roads are scary enough in a car! ;) :D

(I may have mentioned this before, but some time after our first trip to England, I realized that some of the more questionable back roads that we took when we drove down to Durdle Door would have been very near the location where T.E. Lawrence was killed in a motorcycle accident.)

Today I decided to give this Canadian confection, which I've seen posted several times in this thread, a try. I figured my Ironwood Guardians Lambsfoot would be a good photo-companion.

Will be trying those next!

Nope, never have been a huge Trappist ale guy. But I will have to try those next!
If you like Chimay you’ll like those. You might find Westmalle, too. There are a few other Trappist ales (made by monks in actual monasteries), but I’ve not seen them in the States. Of course, there are plenty of good “Abbey” ales that imitate the Trappist originals.

I have tried "Abbey ales" and just never was a fan. But these Chimay ales are very good. Refreshing and not to "heavy" as higher ABV.

Last one....I swear....

Very good, is an easy drinker!
First tried that one almost 40 years ago. Came in a 24 ounce bottle (approximately) with a cork. Loved it at first sip. But it is ridiculously expensive now. Same size bottle today is about $14! I just bought a 12-pack of Samuel Adams for less.
I drink bourbon more than scotch for the same reason!

Morning folks,

My apologies in advance for this time-travel exercise! This is only the first instalment  Hoping to get caught up again soon (and see some sunshine today) ;)

That is one weird statue  Each to his own, I guess
After all, when it comes to sculpture...why split hares

Very good OG :D

My Ironwood '19 helped me build a deck for a special needs neighbor today. It works great for marking wood for cutting.
That's it stuck in the top of the one post.

Nice work Mark, what a kind gesture :)

I do like a Sophie Ryder. Whenever I have taken a class of children to the park they have always loved that sculpture. Though I have to admit given a choice I would go for Barbra Hepworth ever time - fine Yorkshire woman that she was.

Tough kids! :D ;)

Jack was that a "hazy" IPA?

It was Taylor :)

Jack this is great news my friend! I think we have absolutely proven that the market and demand is there for a quality product! I have one of the knives you mentioned as being a second knife. I bought it off the big auction site from a UK dealer. I know it’s a second even though it’s not marked. The fit and finish is far below the knives that I have gotten that came directly from Wright’s. That being said it is still a solid fully functional knife. I think this is due to the design and quality of the materials used. Please extend my thanks and congratulations to the people at Wright’s. I believe their future is bright! :)

Definitely Ron, well done to everyone :) Based on direct experience, I have very little time for most of the UK knife dealers I'm afraid, and the bay is an ideal place for the unscrupulous to shift second-rate products. The only time I've ever bought seconds from the factory, I was able to examine them in person, and only bought a few, but Duane @sitflyer got a nice Pere David out of there, and I got this one in tooth (it has some small cracks around the pins)! :)

Despite that though, I am glad that Wright's will no longer be selling off seconds, or 'wasters' as they were traditionally called, as I think they undermine the reputation of the firm, and lead to people being ripped-off

Best wishes to the retirees. Yes it is fantastic news and comforting to know everything is in capable hands and on good footing. They certainly have my support and I'm drinking a toast to their success. They definitely have benefited greatly from your friendship and guidance Jack. As have all of us.

Thank you my friend :) I have worried, in the past, about the future of the company Dwight, and what would happen to the cutlers when John decided to retire, or who would end up buying it. However, knowing Michael Harrison well, I am confident that the firm could not be in better hands :)

Superb pic

I agree, Jack. I've adopted a different outlook altogether and try not to let the angst get to me these days. I am a patient man and believe good things come to good people, particularly ones who wait. ;)

...

I'd have to say, you can't go wrong with any Lambsfoot you happen to have on hand, Jack. They are all exceptional.

Very wise Dylan :) Thank you my friend :)

Good evening, Guardians.

I am a bit under the weather and am fighting off a bit of a cold. However, the sun is out and I've managed to catch the last few rays of the day in the picture below. My Ebony posing with my favorite "cheap" whiskey. I might be making a hot toddy or two shortly.

Sorry to hear that Dylan, hope the hot toddies worked well, and that you're feeling better by now pal. That's a great pic

A Good Friday morning to all you Guardians! :)

A good Saturday morning Ron, sorry I'm late! :D Your ebony '18 is looking good

Cool pic Preston :)

Helping keep the fire going is my vintage "Wolsty":

And, she has a message she wants us not to forget:

Fantastic old IXL Barry :) I keep asking Wright's about adding an 'Oil The Joints' stamp, but technical problems seem to exist now which didn't in the past  :D

Nice pic Kevin :)

Cheers Taylor :)

Good Friday morning, Guardians.

I was proudly wearing my Guardians pin yesterday Vince :)

Or Cyclops.

Polyphemus?

Hey guys, excited to post that I have joined the ranks of the Lambsfoot owners! Just received an A. Wright in jigged blue bone in the mail today purchased from the aftermarket. Unfortunately my example isn't stellar, the blade is pretty kinked to the right, and has some fit and finish issues.
3crR43d.jpg

Overall though, I purchased the knife intending for it to be a user, so its not a big deal. I intend to use it and enjoy the phenomenal usefulness of the lambsfoot pattern.

I have no idea when it was made, but I am really excited to carry it, planning to bring it with me as my only knife this weekend as I travel to my relatives for Easter. I do plan to purchase another lambsfoot, hopefully without these issues sometime soon, probably something with wood covers, I love wood covers.

Welcome to the Guardians Jordan  Blimey, that IS kinked! Did the seller describe it accurately? My guess would be that your knife was made 15 or so years ago, it may have been a second, and I do think the scratching on the blade was probably caused after manufacture, perhaps by coarse cleaning of the blade. Hope you can get some use out of it despite the flaws, and I hope that your second Lambsfoot is nicer :)

Hi Guardians,
Hope everyone's Good Friday is a great one

I always marvel at the power and passion of Etta James' voice OG, was listening to her just the other night :)

Congratulations! Too bad about the krinking and what looks like scratches on the blade. I wonder if the previous owner did that. Curious as to when it was made. The tang stamp is different than mine (both made in 2018). Also, haven't seen many in bone. Mostly wood, horn, or stag. But I like the way it looks. I love bone handles. Best one I've seen is a modified one owned by @Pàdruig, modified by @glennbad with beautiful deep red jigged bone covers. Oh, and Jack Black Jack Black has an out-of-this-world ivory lambsfoot. Anyway, it's a great pattern.

Wright's don't produce many in bone Vince, and you're right, that is an old tang stamp. Prior to the 2017 Guardians knives, they had also stopped regularly using the etching machine. Dylan's knife is a real beauty, thanks for the nod to my Yorkshire Rose :)
