Hawaii Knife Life - daily use for work and play

Had to collect Maile to make lei for my son’s high school graduation. Carried the King in an Azwelke sheath and a S30v PM2 for giggles.

This vine is a treasure and is highly valuable. It’s important to collect it in a manner that allows the plant to keep thriving. Finger only, no knives.

The BK9 is insurance in case a pig decides you are in his territory.

Took the dogs out for some exercise and a swim.

Carried a Buck 141 and this nice little GEC 44. I’ve noticed the tang of the pen blade sticks out when closed enough to cause discomfort for your index finger when using the knife. That is unfortunate since the knife is so well put together.

The Buck is actually a great pocket carry. It’s very slim and the sheath pads the handle. Very comfortable in the pocket.

Nate, glad your son gets to have a graduation. I feel bad for the High School and College kids that won’t get to have an actual “in person” graduation ceremony.

Thanks Jim, I appreciate it.

We were not allowed out of the car. He had to wait for us to drive up in turn, jump out, then take a quick pic and receive his diploma. Then back in the car and off we go.

Pretty surreal, but most things are these days.

I hope you and yours are doing well.

My youngest daughter’s Dog’s Head needed a bit of TLC after being used as a pig hunting knife this past few months. It’s turned out to be a great tool for dispatching (no surprises there) and served admirably for skinning and deboning. Ka-Bar’s 1095 impresses.

However, the exposure to moisture and repeated cleaning and drying has caused the leather to shrink. The guard is quite loose.

I had treated the leather with Obenaufs about 8 months ago. It made the leather soft and increased water resistance to a degee. I thought I’d try it again...

The guard is still loose but a tiny bit better. I may explore using an epoxy of some type to seal the guard and tang.

A neat little side note: This knife was in new condition 6 months ago. It’s definitely getting a workout!

Used the Cold Steel Recon 1 to cut some rope to tie down the bamboo. Fantastic EDC knife.

Nooooooaaaaaahhhhgggggg!!!! Use twine! It degrades over time!;) I know you are very involved in cleaning, not littering, etc. So I am sure those pieces or synthetic rope where well taken care off. Just a reminder for everyone out there that a zip tie or synthetic rope is ok but if it is meant to be only temporary, then we are better off using with natural fibers.

Most of the crap I find while diving are leftovers from nets, fishing lines, etc. (along with the usual plastic bottles, plastic bags, etc.)

Great pictures as usual!

She shoot that pig or poke it!!! Either way gotta luv a huntress!!! Must be one.proud.papa!!
Enjoy those tenderloins!! Always enjoy your pics! Thanx for sharing em with us!!

James

Mahalo ty sir. The pups hunt, they hold the hog still so you have a clean push. Definitely a blessing but takes some work and bravery.

I agree. Synthetic is everywhere. Jut twine is better for sure.

Thank you for the kind words sir.

Dag, that knife looks like it went through several deployments!! Wow!

Absolutely gorgeous pictures as always, my friend! You know, now that you mention it, I think that's the only thing that bothers me about my #44 also. Still love carrying it, but it's not as much of a whittlin' knife as a result.

Definitely need to be aware of how dangerous they are. Thanks.

That’s another incredible outing with your family. You are a very blessed man.

Thank you, I appreciate the kind words.

Thanks. It is still a great little slipjoint though isn’t it!

Beautiful scales and sheath, man. And knife too, of course.

My Wife and I finished up some work this morning, then took our youngest child to the beach.

Carried the Blur again. Found a nice spot to cruise. I like to make toys for him with driftwood. I don’t get super carried away in the details. He’s gonna lose it anyway haha.

Used the knife to baton this piece into a smaller chunk.

Nate, like anything else I assume the first time is the most concerning. But I’m not sure there would be a first time for me:eek::eek: Besides, what would I tell all those guns in my safe if they didn't get to play?

I’ve had my kids take a few courses on first aid, and make them take kits and blood stop just as a precaution. I definitely worry, but I’m trying to raise them to be strong willed and deliberate, while showing respect for the animal.

I’m thankful we have the opportunity to do this kind of stuff. It beats them staying inside and playing on their phones hahaha!
