"Horizon" 2014 new knives Lightning quick opening, from china Reate custom knives inc

What makes you think this does not use the advertised steel? I am wondering myself, but I would guess that at this price it better have the right steel.

If everyone is perfectly happy with spydercos that are made in taiwan, these arent really too far off the mark from them.15 years ago anything made there was considered junk, too, now look where they are,& with the latest equipment its easier to come up with a good product quickly, like Kizer has done.

The difference are political and labor standards issues between China compared to other countries. Quality wise, they have a stigma to overcome but they are def capable of building things to OUR specs. They build "crap" through the years because that's what we are willing to pay and that's the specs our companies want to save money.

I think the handle scallops look identical. Not an exact copy though. Like I said earlier, kind of generic.

Nice knives, ReaTe. Unfortunately, it seems that even an original design isn't good enough for some people here. I don't see any "obvious" similarities between the 560 and the Horizon, but there will be people that will grasp at straws. Keep up the good work, hope to see more models in the future.
After studying the Horizon and the 560 I will have to agree, not that close. Reading some thoughtful posts here about a rational for the cost, I wouldn't mind a chance to try one of these out.

Not exact, but it's obvious to me where they got their design idea:

I think you are seeing what you want to see. There are quite a few knives some even from custom makers that look a million times closer to the 0560 than the above knife. The only similarity at all is that they both have flippers. And that is really where it ends.

ZT560's handle Material is G10,Horizon's is Ti,Horizon A's blede material is M390 steel ,so I think that is why Horizon's price is higher than ZT560's.

This is an overpriced mid-tech until someone proves the quality and warranty is actually there.
There is a fine line between mid tech, custom and "true" custom and i am not taking the time to draw it.
Lastly, I don't think this is a copy of any specific design but it does look like it borrows designs and concepts from others...which is probably smart on their end because that is what sells.
Oh, and lose the recurve...don't ruin a good blade ;)

I saw some of you have doubts that our material is real or not. All I can say is you can do a material test by professional institution. And we can also provide the material certification report given by our material supplier. We are seeking perfection for every detail of our knives. And we love knives, Reate is our long-term career which we are very proud of.

I forgot to mention that while the knife does not look to be a copy of anyone elses design the pivot is actually Identical to the pivot that is supposed to be on the ZT0454

Hi, here comes a video for you to know better about Horizon A.

Hi, I would like to clarify some points here:
1. "Horizon" was designed and made by Reate, not customized. But the quality can compare with customized knife. And we can make customized knife according to customer's specifications.
2. We offer life-time warranty. If the knife has quality issue, send it back to us, we can return money or send another one. We also have accessories to sell for maintenance when damages occurred.
3. Our brand name "Reate" is a similar word to "Ruite" which is a Chinese phonetic symbol, and Ruite means "sharp, outstanding and special".

Thanks for the info. Maybe you could incorporate the symbol into your logo?

ReaTe,

The video looks good and demonstrates great flipping action.

In your video you should have more close up looks. When showing flipping action, additionally, always demonstrate when straight up in vertical position as it has to work hardest against gravity.

Please spell out exactly what the warranty entails. Does customer pay for shipping to China? What kind of turnaround time for repair or replacement?

Will you have a presence at Blade Show in Atlanta on June 6-8, 2014? Could not find you in any of the exhibitor lists.

When will you start selling the Horizon models? Do you have plans for models with 3.5 inch and 3 inch blades?

Are you getting your steel directly from Bohler and Crucible? Can you show us documents.

When will you have a professional website and logo in place?

What kind of custom work will you accept for an existing model? For instance, annodizing, etc.

Thanks in advance.

Nice vid. Looks like it's an outstanding flipper, also seems larger that I thought it would be. I like it!

I think the knife looks great. Please dont be discouraged by any negativity here, its only opinions, its not written in stone, just move forward with your product & let it speak for itself. Why cant there be knife enthusiasts & makers in China ?if the quality is there,it shouldnt matter where its from.
