Horton Knives....FIREARMS CHAT THREAD 3

I need a long gun and have decided on a shotgun. I was all ready to get a Saiga 12 but from what I've been reading you need to add about another $350 to get them reliable. I am thinking Benelli Supernova Tactical with the comfortech stock. I am looking for opinions before I pull the trigger (pun intended). I am already aware of the lack of aftermarket for the Benelli models. I am going for the factory ghost ring sites then just a mag extension, light mount and sling, thats it. Thanks for any and all advice.

I have a Supernova 3.5 mag. I have shot it for about ten plus years. I use it for everything and everything. It is truly reliable, SUPER accurate with slugs for a smooth bore, and I use it for skeet all the time. I don't think you can go wrong. My buddy is a long time 870 fan. He can't stand all the plastic on my supernova, I can't stand when his 870 jams up.

My supernova has the long barrel. The only upgrade I did was the Benelli Mercury filled recoil reducer in the stock. It makes light loads feel like powder puffs and makes 3.5 mags tame enough for my girl to shoot.

You can not go wrong with one, especially for the price, but they are not for everyone.

Here is a pic of the supernova's in my arsenal.

I have shot tons of high dollar O/U's at the skeet range. They don't do it for me. I can pump the action and do just as well.

Have an old Remington 1100 that is a beautiful shotgun, but I still prefer my pump supernova. The super black eagle is an awesome shooter but doesn't feel as solid and smooth as the old 1100.

Food for thought.

Here is an old pic of some 3.5" 00Buckshot. ;-)

I like 870's have two this one and 14" SBS's

Had a Norinco Trench Gun copy - got rid of it without shooting - just wasn"t for me.

That is a sweet gun Pauli. Let me add, I like 870's also. I actually prefer the look of them over my supernova. But that is just the look.

I have put literally thousands of rounds through my supernova (the black one), never with a single issue. The big difference to me between the Supernova and the 870 is the extractor. That is where the supernova takes the cake in reliability. When shooting all different types of ammo, my Supernova ALWAYS extracted spent shells. The 870's I have been in contact with I can not say the same for.

This may take lots of trying to get an 870 to do this and I know "find the right ammo" blah blah, but with the Supernova I never had to worry. Buy it, shoot it, game over. Nothing worse then taking a shot and not being able to extract the shell.

Since I am elaborating, the big "downfall" to the supernova is the plastic pump. It can rattle when you walk and for some that is a real bother. There is a set screw on the pump that you can see in the pic I posted. If you adjust this correctly the rattle issue is gone.

I have just shot with too many guys with the 870's to see them fail to extract for me to put my trust in one.

Seriously respectful on this one.

Remington 870 Failure to extract, I just Googled it because it is so at odds with my experience.

What I am reading is very sad.

Appears to be true with the newer Remington shotguns.

I have not bought a New Shotgun in more than thirty years.

Thirty years ago the only issue I remember was for loaded shotguns in patrol units with a vertical mount mushrooming the shells in the tube over time.

a Failure to feed.

Bummer, but hopefully they will get it fixed, I remember Harley Davidson having issues in the early 70's while being a part of AMF? They Got Better, I hope the Remington will too.

I once gave Shotguns for Christmas, to my Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother in-law and a few friends, one Winchester and a bunch of 870s I had just had a pretty good year and Family Christmas was a little spectacular that year.

Yes more than thirty years ago.

Now the same thing would not even be legal where I was living in SoCal at the time. I would have to do it through an FFL dealer for my friends if still living in California.

Mine are not SuperNovas, just Novas, just so it doesn't get confused. I see the supernovas have a two piece stock and an improved forearm that reduced the rattle problem. I am interested to see what you come up with Squish. Either way, a regular 3.5" Nova is good enough for me :)

Traded three :D 1911 mags for this Polish M44 still in cosmo. LoL - I'm feelin patriotic today...:)

Well mang, first off congrats on the 19 and the sweet folder. Second, a suppressor makes the shooting experience a whole lot more pleasant. In most cases, you don't need to wear ear plugs. Except at a crowded public range, when some jack a$$ at the range is shooting some ultra magnum with a brake,,,:D

Thanks homies,,,

^Thanks mang,,,

@Truk: so other then dampen the noise, they don't improve your aim or anything, right ? I don't mind wearing ear protection when shooting, so am glad I'm not missing out on too much :)
